Honestly, I wish they would have just used the original Dreamcast graphics with maybe some slightly cleaner textures and while refining the movement and gameplay to round off the edges a bit to make it a bit less clunky. Especially if they're going to bring back the original voice actors, which is a terrible move unless they were going for continuity - but then they break continuity by having a godawful art design. Would have saved them a ton of cash too.
The thing is… this is only going to sell to Shenmue fans and to people who never played the series but want to get in on it because it's a "cult classic" and they need it displayed on their shelf for the geek cred. In either case - nobody gives a fuck about the graphics… and what they did shit out, still doesn't look good enough to get anyone else interested who's not already a fan. In fact, it just looks bad - and having shady deals like this exclusivity crap is only solidifying the idea that it's a quick and lazy cash grab scam.

I would only agree to that is if they somehow ran into trouble and explained in a post why the couldn't initially deliver this product the way they initially intended. What they are doing is clearly double dipping off the backs of the backers. I highly doubt that steam would refuse Shenmue 3 for any reason. Since they clearly knew the decision was controversial, they probably shouldn't have made such an announcement at the PC game show and at least honor refunds like Phoenix Point, since they should've gotten the 100% refund epic game profits that Phoenix got.

pretty sure it used the steam logo, although I can't find anything atm (google is full with the epic shit), but even if not steam was the go to answer how it would be released on pc, not "we don't know and gonna choose the best option (that gives us the most money)", which ironically was also steam until epic started throwing money around.
another thing that's not mentioned how epic literally purchased possible 70k user accounts (probably less due to most being in consoles), but there is simply no other way of using your pc copy besides creating an epic account - or simply not using it/selling which diminishes it's value.
and that's under the assumption that the fucks at deep silver will even distribute shit on time. kickstarters being later than retail is nothing new, usually the special KS stuff makes it worth it nonetheless due to the KS being cheaper or having extra (exclusive) stuff. but you can already preorder the game cheaper than the original KS pledge and there's apparently another limited edition floating around with stuff that wasn't part of the kickstarter.
so, if you have to wait 1-2 weeks for your copy to arrive, you can't unload the shitty epic or unwanted ps4 version on ebay etc without a huge pricedrop, even worse now with all the bad publicity and probably shit reviews once it's out.
it's not like metro were they still had to honor steam pre-orders or phoenix point which offered refunds and other stuff, the ''only' way to use your shenmue pledge is to either use epic store or try to get rid of it at a (possibly huge) loss. and if you backed lots of extra shit the latter isn't even really an option.
