it's an okay game that was broken with patches and now has issues with modern hardware. 6/10 for most of the game, trigen are really boring to fight and just suck up damage to the point the game becomes a 3/10. Not really worth it playing any of the games. Farcry 2 was also terrible, Crysis was better but pretty mediocre, basically an overhyped 7/10 with pretty graphics. Never played the ubiCry games past FC2.

I played Far Cry 5 recently and was positively surprised. The game sometimes leaves a bad taste in the mouth since it clearly has a negative bias on its portrayal of conservatives and will often mock conservative, innawoods lifestyle in passive-aggressive ways. But other than that, the gameplay is actually not bad, and it isn't just a FC3 reskin like FC4 was (which is what I was expecting when I started playing it).
Gunplay, driving and stealth mechanics are all elements that I feel have greatly improved from FC3 (haven't played FC4 much because of how similar to FC3 it was and I hated that Sarkeesian-inspired bitch). Hunting can also be pretty fun and it's a lot more entertaining than in 3.

Far Cry 1 is a solid tacticool FPS. Blends action/stealth in a reasonable way. The game starts off really boring but gets way better once you acquire the shotgun and the heat vision goggles. After that the bullshitness of the AI is counterbalanced by how you can see them through the bushes. However outside of the reasonably solid gameplay, the story is horrendously bad and the voice acting is stunningly bad. Like the voice actor who plays Jack seemingly enunciates random words like English is his third or fourth language. I've spoken to fans of the game who are under the assumption the story/voice acting were intentionally written to be bad in reference to Schwartzenegger films. But Crytek's never produced a game with any good stories so I highly doubt it.
Almost nobody brings up Far Cry instincts when talking about the Far Cry games. It's a remake of Far Cry 1 that Ubisoft made because they realized the original was too graphically demanding. They made the game more linear and gave the story a much needed boost. The story, characters and voice acting were all way better. The pacing was also more solid. Even though the levels were smaller and more linear it's a more memorable game. They also gave the player "predator" abilities which were pretty cool. Ubisoft seemingly forgot this game existed after they ported it to the 360 and never brought it up again. Far Cry Instincts is the game Ubisoft later built every subsequent game off of. They borrowed Instinct's weapon system (having a sidearm/main weapon/special weapon) when they made Far Cry 2. (Crysis also borrowed it). I would kill to see them remaster it or just port it to PC since I loved playing it so much. I've thought about remaking it as a mod for Crysis for years ever since I first played it.

I think the Trigen aren't so bad in Far Cry 1 outside of the ludicrous damage they do to you. Like once you acquire the shotgun they almost all go down within 1-2 shots of it. And the shotgun is really satisfying to use in Far Cry 1.

I didn't find them that bad outside of the Volcano level. Mostly because when they were usually introduced there were usually ways to avoid them (just sneaking past them or using vehicles). The Volcano level is really where the game shits the bed in terms of difficulty

True, Far Cry Instincts is a pretty interesting mini series of its own. I'd love to see Predator remastered or ported to PC too.
Currently the only way to play it on PC without owning hardware, is by emulating the Wii version on Dolphin. It is an awful port though - PS2 tier graphics worse than the original OG Xbox versions and terrible motion controls (they are bad even using a Wiimote on original hardware). Still, at least it scratched the itch for me a bit some time ago.

The Wii version (Far Cry Vengeance) wasn't actually Instincts. It was the sequel to Instincts called "Instincts Evolution" that they just hastily ported to the Wii. (I remember the Angry Video Game Nerd even sort of reviewed it). Instincts Evo wasn't as good as the original and is only really worth playing as a novelty since it's included with Instincts Predator on the 360.

Same, I love the progression of Jason, from being terrified of everything, just wanting to get his brother and get the fuck out. To end up being feared by all, his mere name sending shivers up the spine of the pirates. Far cry 4 was boring af I found, too similar in tone to 3. Just started playing 5 and I'm surprised at how much fun it is. The vietnam dlc is like a game within itself, the aesthetic is great, even with underground VC tunnels. Being able to recruit people to fight with you is a much needed mechanic the game needed, it's great. Being able to go full AC130 with the planes is also stupidly fun.
When I started farcry 5 i refused to handcuff the Father and the game ended lol just like in 4. I like those alternative start of the game endings, they dont serve a purpose but they are kinda cool to be in the game.
