Only watched 10 minutes of it myself, but if I had to guess I'd say that Emulators cannot add interpolation. Normally when you play a game online the game basically guesses what the inputs will be and then smooths over the differences when the data comes in. This has to be done on an individual game level, but the emulator's netcode is being done on effectively a console level. This is pretty common sense when dealing with native games, you almost never complain to the console manufacturer about a game's bad netcode do you? It's always the game developer's fault.

>i'll try that renderer though everything i read says opengl is the best for some reason.
You have a version where OGL is a bit better than DX11, in the past few years if you had used dev version OpenGL would have been progressively getting better than DX11 over time up until recently when som dude ported back a lot of feature from the OGL one to DX11 so now it's again slightly in favor of OGL for accuracy but DX11 should cover a lot of cases fine
>im not sure what CRC hack level means
It's a series of game hacks where the renderer either replaces or skip a specific effect because it cannot emulate the original, agressive has the biggest list of hacks followed by full and partial, you don't want to go any lower usually since if the effect is disabled it's usually disabled for a very good reason.
Aggressive (and full if you're using OGL) can also sometime disable effect that kill performance and / or look like shit

Actually, it'a tie between the PSP and the 3DS. SNES emulation just as compatible with either system (Both being unable to run Star Fox, unless you get a N3DS, but able to play everything else). So, the question comes more down to two deciding factors:
>1. Do you want to play GBA, DS, and 3DS games; OR Neo Geo, PS1, and PSP games?
If it's the former, then get a 3DS. If it's the latter, get a PSP.
>2. How much money do you want to spend?
Honestly, it's better that you get a Vita over the PSP because it's a better system all around, it's backwards compatible with just about everything the PSP can do, and it has the addition of playing Vita games (Of course). And, as for the N3DS, it's a upgrade of the regular 3DS, has a few exclusive games, and has the addition of emulating a couple more systems (With the small power increase). Now, with all that being said, there's, of course, the Switch. It's better than all three systems in terms of raw power, but I cannot attest to it's capabilities when it comes to emulating systems released after 1996. In theory, it should be okay, but I remember hearing that it was spotty when handling PSP games (But, then again, that's just the current state of it).
Long story short, here's the "general" breakdown:
PSP = 3DS > N3DS > Vita > Switch
Hope that helps.

That might explain a bit why I'm having near always positive results from JP PS1 isos after converting them into custom eboots for PSP/Vita while the western isos are mostly on the miss side even if there are other factors in effect. I know POPS isnt the best PS1 emulator out there with mednafen around, but the portability is truly a good bonus. Also for some reason, niche japanese PS2 isos are really hard to find on the net compared to any other system.

I'd argue a hacked Vita is a better option, since you get two analog sticks and actual L2/R2 outputs (either on the back or on the touchscreen, your choice) which is ideal for many PS1 games. I've also been emulating SNES games on it through Retroarch, the rare slowdown issues were generally fixed by switching the cores for specific games, like I go with snes9x_2005 by default only to switch to the snes9x_2002 for Mario RPG or Yoshi Island for example. The sole thing the PSP still has an advantage over is being able to run the POPSLoader plugin (which change the emulator firmware versions while the Vita is stuck on a specific one). The Vita can also handle large memory stockage (400GB and 512GB confirmed, dunno about 1TB) which can be a plus depending if you're a hoarder too or not

The renderer, at least, should be OS appropiate. D3D11 for Windows 7+, D3D9 if you do not have support for the former (and/or are in Windows XP/Vista), OpenGL for Linux (should also add Vulkan), and only workarounds for OpenGL in macOS if you have updated too much (since Apple is going to remove OpenGL support in the future) and/or MoltenVK (Vulkan implementation; no support for it in PCSX2 so far).
Of course, only choose hardware rendering unless you are debugging or something.

You missed the development tab on the right, the orphis buildbot is semi official, owned by a third party but PCSX2 directly links to them and recommends downloading from there.
You can use the internal repo buildbot but it's far mroe confusing to navigate and there's occasionally broken builds since it builds everything and not just accepted PRs.
>i should experiment with and see which i get best results with?
Thi, usually OGL is more accurate while DX11 will be faster.
>ok, so you recommend using aggressive unless i have issues then turning it down until the issues stop?
Usually you can leave it on auto, only use aggressive if there's an effect that looks really bad even if it is accurate (won't always remove it) or if you have performance issue as a last ditch effort.
I have had exactly one case where I needed to change it to none/minimal and that's when playing GoW 1/2

interesting. i noticed they even gave it a toggle shortcut in the new version. really useful. tbh some games look much better without fxaa. katamari looks way better without fxaa… until you start moving and every edge starts crawling and flickering.
so i am using the SSE4 plugin because the default AVX2 doesnt work with my vidya driver. i noticed that D11 doesnt have anisotropic filtering vs OGL. Also, i noticed that "texture filtering of display" is enabled by default on both. i typically hate texture filtering, is this referring to something different? because i cant tell a difference when i turn it on/off. heres some pics for reference of how i have my plugins setup.

If you want higher res then yeah, software is a bit different, it's basically the same regardless of OGL/DX11 as the rendering part isn't done on the GPU anyway but entirely on the CPU, it's slower and limited to native res but it's also more accurate than either of the hardware renderer
>i typically hate texture filtering, is this referring to something different?
I honestly dunno anything about the one texture filtering option you're referring to but there's another near the top of the main video config window and you do not want to touch it as anything but Bilinear (PS2) can and will break some games as some of them rely on the texture filtering of the actual console to do some effects.
>is there any benefit to this if my monitor is 1920x1200? should i just stay in 3x-4x or 6x resolution?
It's basically supersampling, you're not gonna see much difference after 6x quality wise, but performance of some game will be severely impacted, and if you're ever unlucky enough to stumble on one of the games that cause massive VRAM spikes like Armored Core Last Raven having it set that high is gonna be an unpleasant experience, last time I tried that my computer was frozen for like 15 minutes

Honestly I'd just grab a decent smartphone, an 8bitdo controller or similar, and a controller/phone clip. The bonus is you can use Chromecast or a HDMI dongle (if the phone is compatible, most phones from the last few years are) and throw it up on the TV too.

You have to use either a widescreen hack or the 16:9 mode included with the game, if the game just stretches entirely when you change the output aspect ratio of PCSX2 then there's no hack (or it's a non working one) for your game and/or you haven't set the 16:9 mode of the game
Usually with hacks the HUD is stretched or sometimes centered, there's also weirder issues in a few cases (like MGS3 rendering certain effects only in the central 4:3 area of the output.)
Usually games with an actual setting for it should look fine, but there were a few lazy ones I'm pretty sure.
So it's up to you, also F6 change video output mode more easily than the menu if you don't already know that.

If you really want AF then uncheck "Allow 8-bit textures". You're probably bottlenecking on the CPU so this might cause a small performance hit, but it shouldn't be too bad.
"Texture filtering of display" determines how the image is scaled when the window size doesn't match the rendering resolution. Disabling it can result in doubled/skipped lines, enabling it can cause a slightly blurry image.

I guess it depends on your time and budget. If you want no-hassle emulation for cheap, get an old DS with a flashcart. If you want more emulation options with a little more work for about the same price, get a PSP and an adapter that lets you use a microSD card instead of Sony's ridiculous proprietary format. If you're willing to do a little DIY (maybe, depending on the product), there are tons of SBC-based handhelds like in vid related, but some systems just don't have enough buttons for certain systems so do your research. Finally, best emulation with some hassle and the largest price point goes to the PS Vita.

Because it was a powerful 8-bit console(with a 16-bit GPU) with a separate CD add-on that was needed to play 1/3rd of the games, competing against two 16-bit consoles. It's timing in the US is what killed it to be honest. While in Japan it came out back in 87, and the Genesis came out in 88, here in the US it came out about a week and a half AFTER the Genesis debuted in 89. Everyone looking to upgrade from the NES already had a stronger option available, so the TG-16 never got the userbase the PC-Engine got in Japan before the Genesis launched. In Japan the NES had been the big player since 83, so by 87 people were already looking to upgrade. Many did before the Genesis launched, and even the SNES had problems competing against the PC-Engine.
Meanwhile here in the US people had the NES for about 4 years, and suddenly Genesis appears. 16-bit power, Space Harrier 2, Thunder Force 2, and arcade port of Altered Beast. Two weeks later the TG-16 appears with a pinball game, a platformer by the people who made Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on the NES, The Legendary Axe, and Victory Run. Meanwhile the NES is still getting games like River City Ransom, SMB3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Crystalis, Castlevania 3, etc. Between the NES still pushing it's limits and the Genesis beating them to the market, they were doomed. Still, they made an honest go at it, and only gave up after the SNES launched.
Seeing the massive sales of the SNES confirmed that the TG-16 wasn't selling because anyone who wanted to move on to a next gen system and weren't planning on sticking with just one manufacturer had already moved on to the Genesis. The rest that NEC had hoped would buy the TG-16 were merely holding out until the next Nintendo branded console came along. They had releases lined up for all of 92, then retired the TG-16 in the US.
TL;DR: They released after the fucking Genesis for some retarded reason. Couldn't compete after that. They released prior to Genesis in JP, thus had an established playerbase to work with. Which is why the Genesis in JP took the 3rd place spot the TG-16 had in the US. JP had their diehard Nintendo fans as well.

Source please. I know byuu is a tranny and furry, but most of the rage online appears to come from squarepusher and retards on halfchan believing the shit squarepusher says without evidence. The only shit I can find about byuu and mame is him saying it's good for arcade games and bad for everything else, and a thread on the mameworld forums where they were all laughing at him until he stopped by and said "Remind me of this thread the next time you guys ask for my help."

Alright, but I can't believe shit on the internet without a source. People can archive and screenshot shit, and the kiwifarms folks are more than happy to catalogue any and all drama, so I find it a bit suspicious I don't see it in their thread on him.
MAMEdevs make their own builds all the time too. I have no doubt they have some special modified versions for running new games they keep to themselves, but it's mostly a matter of their modified builds not meeting the MAME standard for accuracy/correctness, so they can't push it to the main branch. Hell, just within the past year or so Guru "leaked" a modified build of MAME that supported Sega Sonic Bros since MAME can't officially touch it.
I just wanna see if it was byuu pulling a "shame on them for not sharing" thing or just mentioning it. Because I still see people raging about byuu being a hoarder when all he ever did was dump to check hash, then send the games to the scene dumpers who made them a part of the no-intro set. People act like because he didn't release the roms himself he's worse than ShouTime. It's not like there's any shortage of shit to criticize byuu over anyways.

Don't forget NEC's stupidly fragmented release of the TG16; they originally had it sold in major coastal cities like NYC and LA for a long time before rolling it out nationwide. This mimicked the Japanese release where the released the PC Engine in major cities like Tokyo. Now in Japan this wasn't a huge deal since it's a smaller country and people can afford to take a road trip from Kyoto to buy a PCE if they really wanted it. In the US, NEC failed to realize how spread out everything is, not realizing that someone in Duluth, MN can't just casually drive to NY to pick up a system. Once they sold the American rights to Turbo Technologies in the early 90s to get the system a wider release, the damage was already done. The SNES was out and Sega was quickly rising as its primary competitor, leaving the TG16 as the odd man out in a distant 3rd place.

Of course, I'm not asking any of you to pretend to be nice, it just took me by surprise how you guys really felt. You were all much friendlier when I was donating code to MESS.
>Those chat logs were really nasty, though.
>AWJ: jesus, byuu can be infuriating to deal with. I suppose there's no hope of any of his cronies helping me improve libco now that their god has pronounced my code Bad And Wrong

>Vas Crabb: He went through several iterations that just plain didn't work. Of course, back then byuu was actually reasonable and you could work with him.

93abfc No.16561999
Just played Beetlejuice on the NES. I was thinking "Oh, hey, a game by Rare, how bad can it be?" The answer is, pretty damn bad. The game will let you platform yourself into a position you can't move from. See, the levels scroll in all four directions, but the screen doesn't always know when to scroll and let you move down, and when there is a death pit. So if you climb on a rooftop to get an item or whatever, odds are you will lose the rest of your lives attempting to find the spot where you can fall that makes the screen scroll instead of killing you. Doesn't matter if there is solid ground a milimeter below the screen, you will die for falling off the screen. Neat concepts, but amazingly terrible execution.

That's not exactly what happened. Discord logs were leaked that showed skmp (dev you're referring to) was trying to use license fuckery (CLA) to do some commercial streaming kike shit against the wishes of other contributors. skmp then showed up in the libretro discord and started making ridiculous legal threats with no understanding of the law, demanding that libretro stop using the name. Libretro reicast was then renamed even though they were under no obligation to do so, and then sp banned skmp from the discord for being a nigger. skmp was then banned from the repository by one of the contributors he was trying to kike with his license fuckery. skmp then proceeded to go on reddit and have an absolute autistic public meltdown, admitting that all of his threats and bullshit were because sp hurt his feelings years ago and infringed on his safe space. I'm sure there's some bits I'm missing here or there, but that should be the gist of it. There's also accusations of gay ops related to skmp's employment, but I haven't seen any solid proof to back that up.

They're called Video Monitors. Sony makes really high quality professional CRTs for video production called Professional Video Monitors (PVMs) but even most old Home Computer video monitors will have standard RCA inputs and output at a higher resolution then your standard CRT TV. CRT TVs are a fucking mess in comparison image quality wise and its where I suspect most LCDfags get their assumptions about CRTs from as far as quality goes.

Haven't tried anything past that. I even tried running it after uninstalling the Nvidia drivers and that just had other problems. At first it seemed to work, but less than a minute into a level the game would begin reversing itself. >dithering isn't a suggestion to use composite or rf
It is when used on shit that's supposed to be transparent like water falls or shadows (i.e. Sketch Turner's shadow in Comix Zone), or any object that's trying to show more shades of color the Genesis can't show natively. Watch the embed.

Yeah, all those pixels were pretty deliberately placed. A lot of care went into the art work, to make it dithered or not, to shade it, detail it and give it depth and placement in the world.

All of which was attained once those pixels were blended together to create wider colors and shades not possible on the hardware itself. You can't seriously say the moving cloud shadows in Crusader of Centy were intended to be these big splotchy meshes that move over the game world, or that Sketch's shadow in Comix Zone was supposed to be an oval made up of visible vertical lines under him.
You don't have to reach this hard to justify playing in RGB. If you like the clarity, then fine, but don't pull shit out of your ass when nearly every Genesis game used color blending in what was a very commonly used input method on consumer CRTs.

Only in the cases where a form of dithering was used. Not all. You like to talk in absolutes a lot. Dithering also works on shadowmask sets which were far more common than aperture grille sets at the time, as well as from a distance. You don't need to downgrade everything just so an effect used 2% of the time in sonic the hedgehog looks a little better when it's on screen for 3 seconds.

Under the Emulation Settings in Speedhacks there is a preset slider on the bottom that you can slide to the right a notch or two in an attempt to sacrifice accuracy in the name of performance. Also make sure MTVU is enabled for multi-threading stuff.
