I actually watched it today in theaters because my son wanted to see it with his friends. It's not as bad as I expected. There are a couple decent scenes, and the plot progression is about as bland as it gets, with most of the story just literally told to the audience scene by scene. It's not good, but it's not really bad enough to be funny.

There are a few things worth mocking, and there are actual decent ideas, like a scene where a bunch of loudreds are DJing an event, basically spitting drum&bass music, and then they get high on some gas that drives Pokemon insane, and the music becomes dubstep. The second half of the movie is just Pokemon chaos and fanservice, and it's not actually too bad. The first half is mostly some lame gags, the Mr Mime scene (which is funnier than the trailer made it look), and just walking from setpiece to setpiece talking to characters.

The first half is boring and the second half is actually decent(ish), the plot is delivered clumsily, and the Pokemon look fucking hideous the entire way through (especially Gengar. Holy shit they made that one look disgusting). It's a movie made for kids that isn't terrible for adults to sit through. I think it would probably be fine to watch for a /v/ movie night, there's just not that much to make fun of. For a detective movie with a talking Pikachu, I was expecting something a little less paint-by-the-numbers.

Only "progressives" can praise and simultaneous complain about something in the exact same breath. I watched it earlier before this thread and it was alright for what it was. It's not like I have that high standards at what to expect out of a live action pokemon movie.

Black actor can't act. Even when he's suppose to be running for his life, he jogs like he's out for an exercise. Reynolds is doing his usual Reynolds bits. Movie feels more like it should be a direct to movie video that would be shown on the Disney channel.

I will say it had just one funny bit but I don't think it was there intention to be funny. It's that scene where the CNM journalist says they need sources to be able to report it. CNM being a replacement for CNN who reports news without any facts to back it up, I chuckled at that point. Other than that, the spectacle of 3D pokemon didn't bother me as much as the first trailer did but it's a film that's in one ear and out the other. You'll forget about it in a month.

There's a red herring earlier in the movie where the bad guy show him a hologram of the car crash where his dad dies, and he is able to crawl out. So part of the movie is trying to find his dad (which goes nowhere since he's pikachu). But he cuts it out before the dad gets merged. Examples include Pikachu which is a hamster or some other large rodent, Charmander is an orange colored Salamander with a small fire at the tip of it's tail.
