Wrong. Borderlands 3 will suffer from the exact same problem that Borderlands 2 and the re-sequel did (a problem that Borderlands 1 did not have); unsatisfying loot and thus an unsatisfying core gameplay loop.
In order to get the player that next dopamine hit and keep them grinding, weapons become worthless after 2 levels, 3 maximum, which is maybe half an hour of game time if we are generous. You are constantly replacing guns that you like just because they become useless and you picked up one with higher numbers, even if it has a dumb gimmick you don't like such as exploding on reload or other dumb shit. This leads to stupid nonsense like legendary weapon drops being outperformed by rare stuff only 2-3 levels along the line. Incredibly unsatisfying. Borderlands 1 did not suffer the same problem. A legendary weapon in that game lasted for possibly tens of levels, hours and hours of in game time. You can get a weapon you really like and stick with it for ages, very little dumb gimmicks. I have played Borderlands 1 to completion at least 3 times, I have not once finished Borderlands 2. I guarantee Borderlands 3 will be the same.
Unfortunately all "looter shooters" seem to suffer from this same nonsense as well now. It's become an inherently unsatisfying genre. The only winning move is not to play trash games.

I've seen that claimed, over and over, but it's utter bullshit. The guns in 1 were not as wildly randomized as in 2, yes, but you also didn't overlevel them so quickly. In borderlands 1 you level at least 50% as quickly as in the others, so any claim 2 guns become obsolete faster are at the very least counterbalanced by that. And that is just being laser focused on the guns issue, not taking into account the very serious flaws 1 has.
>The characters and their trees are crap. No context. They all amount to very minor bonuses that barely change how you play, at the end of the day your gun is everything. Your "build" is just going to determine what class of weapon you'll thirst for the most, but nothing is a gamechanger. Wacky builds like Anarchy gaige or the entirety of Krieg is absolutely unthinkable in Borderlands 1. If you think better gun balance is anywhere near close to make that not matter, you've got autism.

The writing is definitely the worst part of the Borderlands series, particularly Borderlands 2 and the PreSequel. Hands down. I wish they could have done a better job. Handsome Jack is the only redeemable part of the entire second game, and after playing about an hour of the PreSequel, I refused to play that radioactive dumpster fire ever again; it was bad enough having terribly written characters that aren't particularly that funny and an inconsistent mess of a story that doesn't take advantage of the basic shit they added into the game because fucking reasons, shoehorning in a lesbian and a bunch of quips about sexism and social justice was just like beating a dead horse.
