I keep seeing requests for dudes LFG and I've been tempted to join a group, but I'm still doing my story shit, so I gotta ask…
Does everyone just grind mobs or do raids (if there's such a thing)? Or do they do story missions, based around what everyone has available?
Is Arcane Flight actually good? I like the combo of Flight + Teleport but I don't know how it scales compared to having just either of those powers or how usefull the rest of Sorcery might be. I also can't put upgrades on Teleport, only Flight shows up on my menu, but everytime I levelup, it says that Teleport has more slots?
On that note, can I just settle for Ninja Run or Beast Run? It's a mild version of Super Speed + Leap that's not as good as either of these but it's their combination anyway.
It basically saves me a power choice since I can buy either for free too so, if it's more than enough for movement, I'd probably stick with one of them, not to mention I could combine it with Teleport.

Second, there's a shitload of stuff to do in CoH. There's story lines, street sweeping, task forces, raids, paper missions, etc. Players largely like to do short and sweet stuff like paper missions, but here and there you'll find a group doing story missions. Anyone can join anyone else's story missions (provided they're on the same faction or a fencesitting middlefaggot) and gain experience from any level content.
Arcane Flight is just fine. Its flight speed seemingly scales the exact same way as Fly's does, so don't get too worked up over it. The advantage the Flight pool has over Arcane Flight is access to Air Superiority, Hover, and Afterburner.
Lastly, you can eventually push Ninja Run/Beast Run to the hard cap of running speed (~83mph) and there's no realistic cap on jump height, but the base height is often more than enough to get around. It's entirely feasible to use nothing but Ninja Run.

Sorcery is pretty good if you know what it's for (health buffer, damage resist) Travel powers are basically just picking whatever you find best, with teleport ally being really fucking good but meaningless once you realize everyone can get a jetpack.

If I recall it correctly there is already some villain faction even then you fight against the 5th column instead of helping them. Also I noticed that mastermind minions and other "NPC" minions have a few more abilities such as dynamite throwing, M1 Enfield Rifle, advanced burst, frag grenade and a few other power set which is not available at all for the assault rifle/blaster class even with the munition mastery. It would be nice if there is more "weapons" related power set, maybe something with chemical/incendiary weapons would be gud too. So that a player can specialize with a different element types instead of using the fire ancillary power set which is not weapons related but a hand magic. So something like Assault Rifle/Chemical Weapons, Rifle/Flamethrower Weapons or Heavy Weapons/Other Weapons would be nice to have.

Only thing you need to understand is that some builds are going to be impossible to make after they roll back to i24. Long and short is that the argie faggot made a bunch of half-assed tweaks and put beta and unpolished content into an unofficial i25 version of the game, which is what reddit is running, and what the /coxg/ server is running. Once we get things rolled back properly, all the powers listed there will be unavailable. That's about the only thing you have to worry about. For the most part, all powersets have their strengths and weaknesses, but all are more or less viable, and in places where they underperform, a good team can make up for that.

Few combinations or powerpools are outright terrible. It's an MMO so teammates help cover your weaknesses and the flexibility of enhancements lets you work on some of those weaknesses on your own.
Most people will appreciate flavor and style over being some flow-chart nigger metafag.
Some warnings I can give you:
Avoid Sentinel and these combinations >>16456185 as they will become unavailable when /coxg/ transitions from i25 to i24.
If you consider choosing Regeneration, do yourself a favor and pick Willpower or Bio-Armor instead. Regen was a launch-day power that got nerfed repeatedly. Willpower is basically the same, but better, as a result. It's like the old percentage based skill systems of tabletop. If your skill in something is 95% then rolling 95 or lower is a success and rolling higher fails. ss, flight, and sj are travel powers you'd be using outside of combat. you're not going to have end issues while using them.
the equivalent powers you'd use in combat are combat jumping and hover and maybe sprint.
as mentioned, non travel pool powers aren't worth taking unless you know why you need them, for instance taking weave because it takes you from almost soft capped defense to soft capped.

For any other linuxfags having trouble getting WINE to read mouse clicks properly, I found a weird workaround that basically boils down to forcing open a pop-up window before the game starts. The easiest way to do this is to add a nonsensical command-line option when you launch the executable, like "wine cityofheroes.exe -project coh -auth coh.ourodev.com -capeshit". The game will complain, but after dismissing the window it will continue on normally and mouse clicks should work.
