They are legally allowed to do this, which is why they do. First off when you buy your games you are only paying for a temporary license and the agreement you sign says they can revoke that license at any time for any reason. Sony has always had unethical business practices. Even Steam only suspends your community posting privileges they never actually prevent you from accessing a game unless you cheat and even then they only ban you from multiplayer services. Sony aren't your parents, they have no right to take away the property of their customer just because they don't like what they say. They are completely out of order here and should be boycotted. It's not the same thing. When you buy software such as a game, you are buying a license to use that software. You don't "own" anything. It's less like a product that you own and more like a contract that you sign. If you break the terms of the contract, it is void and you no longer have the legal right to use the software, and theoretically you could be charged for using it although that almost never happens.

I think civil rights protections might apply to the customer in this case, because if I remember right the clause reads like "race, sex, sexual orientation, creed" and I cannot remember if political beliefs are included. However it's difficult to prove that the publisher did it for purely political reasons in most cases. I think we'd have to wait until the right case comes along where there is sufficient proof of malicious intent on the publisher's part and the victim has a competent lawyer.
