The gameplay itself is incredibly fun and unique(it even had crossovers with Metal Gear Solid), the chracters cute, the music great and not to mention, most people don't know that, it was the very first game to ever use a double analog stick controller which today is standard, even though back then it was something new. No one gives credit to this fact especially not Sony.

I've said this before, the point of contention comes from the common view on any political and cultural spectrum that pedos = child molesters. As in, someone into lolis is immediately going to go diddle kids. Obviously not the case. On the other hand, simply liking 2D and not 3D doesn't make you not attracted to it. If you like 2D women, you're just as straight as if you were to like 3D women. Likewise, if you like traps, 2D or otherwise, you're fucking gay.
Pedophilia is just an attraction, it doesn't mean action. You can be a closet faggot and never have gay sex, but jerk off to faggot porn all day. But that contention is why this argument comes by in the first place.

bb1295 No.16372035

The separation between 2D and 3D has nothing to do with whether something is some kind of attraction. Liking 2D girls is straight. Liking 2D guys is gay. Liking 2D traps is gay. And liking 2D lolis is pedophilia, which is nothing more than an attraction to children (in this case, 2D children). You're just a pedo who's only into 2D. Same for me, same for plenty of people. If you say that lolis aren't pedo just because they're 2D, that would make seven foot-tall Jojo-tier muscle towers not gay because it's 2D and because you aren't into 3D of that kind. That's not how it works.
It's simply a common attitude from most of society, from any political spectrum, from nearly every culture, that pedos need to be hung on the spot, that even causes most pedos to be this defensive. I can't blame them, really.

>most people don't know that, it was the very first game to ever use a double analog stick controller which today is standard
The back of the tray card for the game makes explicit note of that, even calling its dual analog set up "revolutionary." I suppose that's something lost with digital release/piracy though, in that you don't have as immediate access to such coming with the game file itself (as opposed to having to dig around online for covers and manual scans). But for those that pick up preowned games (whether you consider it a good or bad thing), properly cased copies still have that fact readily available to read when turned over.
>No one gives credit to this fact especially not Sony.
I would assume either because it's a facet most everyone takes for granted now, to the point d-pad only PS1 games can feel strange, and being that Sony only put the PSP version on the PSN, obviously that one can't quite make use of that set up or claim due to the format as a selling point. Though, even the game's own database page says fuck all about it officially, so I guess that yeah, they don't even give a fuck about historical value the PS1 version has.
>>16371526
Pretty sure Subsistence PS2 does have it, but the Essentials Collection bundle and PS3 HD compilations don't (the former not having a disc 2 or 3 printed for it and the latter likely cutting things that weren't the actual Metal Gears themselves to save space; MGS1 wasn't even on disc for the Legacy Collection, and that was a major entry in the series). So technically it would be the rereleases after the first that lack it.

Even if the info was readily available I would still consider it not something most people know because the game is twenty fucking years old and part of a series that hasn't seen a proper release in over half that timeframe. Plenty of people honest to god don't know anything about games pre 2000 that isn't Nintendo or half of Sega and of the ones who do I doubt even half of them actually experienced it in real time. Also, according to pretty much all metrics the PS1 sold at least half of it's lifetime units after the introduction of dualshock, though this is largely in places outside of NA, Japan and Euroland, so it's entirely likely that even someone who grew up on the system didn't know it originally had no sticks. It's really fucking sad just how little people know about any system that isn't NES and SNES. They never got a chance to saturate the internet with faux nostalgia to help foster the genuine stuff and historical autism.

Can confirm, we had a pretty sizeable Sony presence though I don't believe it was quite official, meaning consoles were probably imported by small business owners from western Europe. It was not that long after the fall of the Soviet Union so we hadn't had independence for long. It's for this reason that many people got PS1s by the time the PS2 came out, and PS2s by the time the PS3 came out. I remember when I first learned about the proper release date of the Seventh gen, I was dumbfounded. Similarly, I had never seen a PS1 joystick without the sticks (I'm sure they existed somewhere here, but I never got to see one), and since we never had things like Demodisks, I never knew about Parappa or Ape Escape until much later. Though I did have a friend who had a copy of fucking Pepsiman. I actually really liked it.

You know now that I think about it Playstation really got big here the same time Pokemon did. Maybe parents thought their kid already had "a Nintendo" and decided to get the other thing instead. Who knows. It's weird how back then what games people played largely depended on the parent's perception of it but even since youtube, or really post google youtube ecelebs, they can market to the kids directly and let the little shits just steal mom's credit card instead.

Would probably help matters if Sony had kept the series properly current. But that's honestly a big problem of there. Whereas one can justifiably argue that Nintendo overly milks their franchises rather than make much new, they do at least keep their series' names in people's minds going forward, even if they don't actually do anything further than rereleases (IE: Mother characters always being included in Smash despite the series not having continued past the GBA). Meanwhile Sony has long been content to frequently kill the series or potential series they themselves own off after a generation, if not a single game or two in the same one, and rarely mention them further. Its surprising when the occasional one managed to last two or more generations, for better or worse.
Still, if you want to go the mainstream route of how the average pleb with an internet connection approaches the question of "what the fuck is this?" the (((wikipedia))) page for the first Ape Escape mentions the game's status of being the first dual analog input requiring game in the second paragraph, while the page for the series overall mentions it in the second sentence. Though I guess it still depends on the reader if that fact has much value to note or retain to them. Probably less a case of people that have played the game at some point since not having at least heard of that aspect, and more not having much reason to care at this point. Especially since where I am, any actual game store will specifically bundle dual analog if not the DS1 controllers with the PS1 systems they sell for better consumer utility, and it was mainline as of the PS2, thus the controller restriction not mattering nearly as much anymore.
>>16372286
Similarly with >>16372300, I don't recall ever hearing much word-of-mouth about FFVII where I lived at the time either, be it around the neighborhood or overheard at school. Looking at availability in second hand stores at present, it's not like it was remotely a slouch in sales locally, but maybe hype and what discussion was to have been had by then-current players had petered out by the time I would have started to distinctly notice discussion on video games.
Honestly a lot of games I'd have never heard much about without internet access, because local word of mouth can only go so far.
>>16372213
That's actually got me kind of curious, as I never had demo discs back then. If Ape Escape being the first game to really sell people on what dual analog could really do as far as movement control design meant it naturally required dual analog capable input to play, did that lock access to even playing the demo to those that had already adopted the controller, so as to provide a proper glimpse of how the game handled? Just thinking how that could have been a risk if those who could actually try it out at the time were limited by what would have been more just an alternative way to do eight direction input prior or games that allowed it, and thus may not have been as accessible.
>I'm pretty sure everyone who has ever owned a Playstation knows what it is.
I know by now, but at the time back when I had the system and it was current, I sure didn't.
