There really isn't a specific order as most games aren't direct sequels to each other with a few exceptions. and there are a myriad of franchises under the Megaten banner.
Best bet is to pick a PS2 era one as in my opinion that's one of the best era's for megaten specifically Digital Devil Saga, Nocturne, or Persona 3. There are earlier titles that are worth playing like Soul Hackers, Persona 2, the original SMT games.
Barring that Strange Journey for the NDS is also a good title to start off on, it was mine. Nothing to say about the 3DS update Redux though as I avoid most atlus re-releases like the plague when I see that a waifu character has been added.

People are always pulling for Geno for some reason (I never played Super Mario RPG), other good potential characters are Shadow Mario with paint-brush themed special moves, Skull Kid, Paper Mario, Andy from Advance Wars, Arms characters like Spring Man/Ribbon Girl/Twintelle's ass.

Bayonetta and Joker are the closest we’ve come to Dante in Smash for now, and I doubt he’ll be DLC since Itsuno basically deconfirmed him in an interview, but you never know.

-Sometimes a cow will appear with a lit fuse on its head. This is an exploding cow. By letting the cow cook a little bit, he can then smack it on the rump and send it charging into opponents where it will explode and send everyone flying if his timing is correct.
Final Smash: Barn Blaster
Jim pulls out a gigantic gun made out of bricks with a chimney on it. He aims it in front of him and pulls the trigger - it quakes for a moment and he fires an extremely gigantic orb of plasma that scorches his opponents and explodes like a supernova. He is knocked off his feet by the blast and gets up rubbing his forehead.

Is this the containment thread? I really could use some help here after playing against this twink for a couple of times. I'm at 4 million right now and fighting him with villager was tedious since he's hopping all the time, and he's somehow just phasing through my main tools (slingshot and rocket). Most of the ones I fight often spam roll and dash attack until they grab me, kinda like what Clouds do, and I can't really shield grab him back since his dash attack goes through shields. Also, his hitbox is so limber that I can't really have room to breathe. It was a lot easier with DK and triple D which is sorta strange since their down smashes are particularly slow. I know he's a new character and people are trying to figure out his matchups, so I'll be patient and leave this here.

I keep thinking that if Smash ever gets a proper story mode they should make the true main antagonist a real relic of Nintendo's past: the Hanafuda Emperor, from when their company were making Hanafuda cards during the industrial revolution.
The Emperor should be the final antagonist and the one who is in absolute control of Tabuu and all these other creations (Galeem/Dharkon). He points out that they are his creations that he drew by hand on hanafuda cards and it explains why, from the perspective of the Nintendo characters, these godlike beings just came out of nowhere. It's all part of a game he was trying to play with them to get everyone to realize they are game characters.

Asking someone to play an early 90's SNES RPG is asking for them to be turned off to the entire franchise. Have you gone back and played the original game recently, it's interface is the biggest thing that turns most gamers off because it predates the common sense that modern RPG's have instilled in people for years now.

There's no mainline Megaten content in fighter pass 1, which means Sakurai is likely treating Persona as its own series, similar to how he treats Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Wario in relation to Mario.
This means if Demifiend or Jack Frost got in, they'd be treated as characters from an entirely new franchise. I doubt we'll be seeing either of them in the fighter pass, though. Perhaps next time.

Demi-Fiend is the protagonist of SMT3, which is probably the most well-known and iconic mainline SMT game. Also it's objectively the best game in the series. The only real point against Demi-Fiend is that SMT3 didn't appear on Nintendo consoles unlike all the other games, but Demi-Fiend does appear in DLC for SMT4A, so he's viable.

The point is that it's aged to the point of feeling unfamiliar to people who haven't played older RPGs. It's like asking someone to play Ultima IV, it's a classic but most people will bounce off it within the first 10 minutes.

What context? Most of the franchise consists of standalone titles connected by themes and mechanics and the occasional duology. The original games are good in their own right, but definitely require a different mindset and there are better first person dungeon crawlers in the franchise to present for a new player. For such a large franchise, the point of a recommendation should be to give the player something that is engaging and has the lowest barrier of entry. The ps2 or DS entries are perfect. I'll even say the 3DS Soul Hackers game or the Devil Survivor updates are also good starting points.
Keep the recommendation of the SNES titles for after they've had their megaten cherry popped. There's nothing wrong with working backwards for something like this.

It's not really open-ended enough to suggest that non-P5 characters will become fighters. It'd be weird to see Demi-Fiend or Jack Frost with a Persona 5 logo next to their damage counter.
Cloud's series logo ("FF") is open-ended and at least implies that any FF character could make it in. I think Snake and the Belmonts are more likely to remain than you might think, but yeah Cloud is absolutely gone. Sakurai’s gone on record saying he hates cutting characters and never wants to but cuts just end up happening for one reason or another.
I have a feeling echoes are staying though. These ain’t a one-time concept.
Also to the dismay of many, I get the feeling Ridley and K. Rool were one-time characters and they won’t be playable in any future Smash games.

I think the more unique a moveset of a character, the higher chance they have of staying. Pokemon is iffy as they just remove pokemon at random (or just mewtwo) to make room for the new flavor of the gen.
Echos are pretty simple, you're right, so they don't eat up as much time and/or resources.

I only doubt that as they were the highest voted in characters, showing a high demand for them to be in smash at all. It would be very strange to have a poll ,find out what characters are wanted the most, include them for one game, then not include them for the next game. Not saying it's impossible, just that it'd be weird.
As for 3rd party, it really all depends on how much the 3rd party companies want to keep working with nintendo. Sega joined early on, Capcom joined in to the point they now have 3 characters, and even Konami let in 3 characters this time around (not counting ATs and bosses).

That does raise a question about what the next Smash Bros game will do. This one was "special", because it had all the other characters from the other games, plus a few more, so will the next one also have all of them plus a few more, but bloating the rooster and making it more difficult to have characters that have the same arsenal(sword wielders) but play differently, or will it have a more concentrated and "diverse" rooster filled with the fan favorites where each character plays differently, but will anger a lot of fans?

I'd say that franchises that regularly have newcomers in their own series are likely to experience "trade outs". IE: Fire emblem would cut lucina, chrom, and roy but include whatever new MC fag from the next FE game. Pokemon may scrub greninja, lucario, and/or incineroar to include whatever pokemon they want to push.
I also feel we'll either lose toon link or young link due to their similarities, we'll lose pichu almost for certain.
There are a lot of those characters who might be on the block and while they would tick off fans, it's not like they are under repped as they often get new reps or new variations per game.
Compare things like F-zero, metroid, Mother, and you see what I mean.
