When the last time you had a subscription to a gaming magazine? When the last time you read a gaming magazine? How long will gaming magazine be around?

Also friendly reminder Netflix getting a magazine yet Nintendo power died years ago

33fa25  No.16349144

>would read magazines when visiting stores

>usually had nintendo things so would often look at the nintendo section of reviews

>nintendo Power was the only one who didn't give Skyward sword a 10.0 review, citing that it actually had issues

>ended up getting a subscription to it

>the magazine ends it's USA run while I have the subscription

fuck

Nintendo Power was surprisingly fair, seemingly late into its (first) life. Also the older ones with community autism shit and bonuses inside were comfy as fuck, as were some of the other non-Nintendo mags. After the reboot it was essentially the same as all the others at the time in terms of content I think. I can't remember if it was straight up shilling, but it had no charm whatsoever so it may as well have been. It wasn't the same people behind it, it was some generic mag company I think. Probably the usual suspects.

There's a fan published followup too (if it's still around, it's probably been a few years or so now since I learned about it), but

>paying for a fanzine when it could be published online for essentially free

>most new games are shit, even Nintendo games

>there wouldn't be that charm from kids sending in their shitty fanart, letters, etc. because kids don't do magazines anymore

>instead it would be tumblrinas and manchildren writing in

>probably written by soyboy cucks too

>might even be explicitly kiked, shilling for social justice bullshit

Better to just remember what we had. I encourage anyone, nostalgic for it or not, to just torrent some magazine scans from various different magazines, not just Nintendo Power because there were other comfy ones too that I don't remember a lot about. Retromags has high quality scans. I also encourage scanning and submitting your own if it's not already scanned, for preservation purposes.

There was also a weird-ass section at the back for "after-dark" style articles by this one guy. I remember one article about people making bank as Twi'lek strippers in Star Wars Galaxies.

Pic related, pretty sure I had this exact issue.

It's absolute and complete dogshit, but every issue they give away steam codes for vidya, so if there's something that interests me, then I might consider buying it from time to time.

There were a lot more of magazines with discs that had full games on them, which allowed me to aquire some discs with a few lesser known older titles but they have been chewed out. I still have a shit ton of discs at home.

Yeah, internet news sites have seen to that unfortunately, and not just with vidya but with everything. It's a shame because magazines always had a nice feel to them that reading an article online just can't replicate. Probably has something to do with them spending a month making each issune instead of just typing up an article in a couple of hours and posting it.

Game Informer

>When the last time you read a gaming magazine?

I've actually gone back and read many pdfs of mags I liked back in the day like CGW and EGM. Game journos were always retarded, but I must admit, I found EGM to mostly fun to read back again, while Computer Gaming World was a lot worse than I recall it was always full of smug liberal cunts from Silicon Valley. Next Generation had some of the best features and interviews, but their reviews were always written as an afterthought. Most console specific mags were always suspect. OXM was tripe and Nintendo Power was always lame. Never read the Playstation mags. Sega mags were not too bad, especially for the Saturn and Dreamcast.

We had a magazine in Australia called 'Hyper'. It was generally humorous, full of inside jokes, running gags with the writers and pretty fair reviews and in-depth breakdowns of games. Then they got picked up by a new publisher, changed their review system from 0-100 to 0-10 and gave the Witcher Definitive Edition a 10. Something they'd never done before. No game ever earned a perfect 100 because their philosophy was that there was no perfect game. I was a teen at the time and dropped the mag instantly as soon as I saw they'd gone against their values. It's a fucking shame because they really were good times had reading them. Never had subscriptions, and the closest I used to get once in a while was the Pojo Pokémon magazines. They primarily were aimed at the TCG and the anime but occasionally focused on the games. One of the issues I need to dig out of, somewhere or other in the house, is the one that had a walkthrough of Pokémon Gold and Silver but based on the Japanese version. So all of the names of places were romanized, "Mirutank" for example. It was only a few pages long but of course was nicely laid out and actually, from memory, pretty solid in terms of advice. Nothing like telling you to use a Master Ball on a Fearow.

I posted this late summer almost 2 years ago. Is this what you're referring to?

(There was also one about Cisbusters the year before, but I didn't save that one. Same store put all the Cisbusters stuff on clearance within a week or 2 of starting to sell anything because they wanted to get rid of it. I imagine most stores did something similar.)

Just think of all the trees that had to die to produce this garbage. All the homes to so many animals wiped out so some slack jawed dipshit could shell out a couple bucks to learn fidget spinner tricks they could've just looked up online instead and read the book version of one of the dumbest, most soulless and worst movies ever made. Humanity is a goddamn cancer on the Earth.

Being a spic and remembering old gaming magazines it's pure pain, specially when you were poor and couldn't afford any of the games there, and now as an adult not remembering them.

I remember there was this magazine advertising survival horror games, specially Code Veronica X since it just came out, there was an article about that Mickey Mouse Magical Mirror game for game cube, I think they also had a section about animal crossing. I clearly remember 2 articles as well talking about Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance and what I think was a game that looked a lot like Demon Crest, but for the life of me can't remember the name of the game. Don't even know if it was the same magazine. There were a lot of gaming magazines in south america at that time, and I got a couple. They really shaped me, because I longed for those games even when I couldn't afford them.

I did find a magazine I read back then about anime that changed me, though, there I learned about hentai. It was called Minami. This always gets me really nostalgic, I had the multimedia CD and everything.

Then I dropped my subscription because I noticed as the years went by there was less interesting video game stuff and more and more of these shitty opinion pieces.

Just looked this up to make sure, because I remembered everoyne riding SS's dick. Don't think NP gave out too many perfect scores. But yeah, what's the deal with that, almost every major reviewer gave SS a perfect score. I liked it but it isn't 10/10 material

Literally people trying to make a quick buck. I read about this in some shitty self help book. Profit margin on magazines is large enough to warrant publishing something for a few months for the latest meme royale game. This is also why you saw tons of cringey Minecraft publications in your local Barnes and Noble. They don't need to sell too many to get a profit.

This was an official Nintendo product too. I have no idea how that happened, other than no one was looking. Nintendo didn't have huge success in the UK during the GC era, so I guess they just handed it over to whoever and let them get on with it.

They actually re-branded and laid off all of the old staff when the Wii came out. I stopped reading there.
