>Crysis
>PC game released in 2007 to the ode of GPU manufacturers around the world
>Graphics so pretty they raped PCs for some 3 years down the line
>Use foliage to hide from Koreans autistically searching for you
>tons of small physics objects to throw at Koreans, including other Koreans
>almost every vehicle in the campaign is freely driveable
>throw Koreans at buildings to make them collapse in on themselves
>better physics than Oblivion, lots of small details help with immersion
>huge fuckn maps for a single player FPS
>story isn't great but serviceable and presented well enough
<latter half of the game is meh due to gay aliens
>had a Battlefied-esque multiplayer mode using all the vehicles from the campaign
>no DLC
>got a standalone expansion a year later which was much of the same but still fun
>sells around 3 million copies
<but then
<EA.jpg
>Game was so successful the demographics had to be broadened
>JewA orders Crytek to make Crysis 2 a multiplatform console gayme adjusted for wider audiences
>Cryengine 3 is just Cryengine 2 but with 7th gen console support and six million motion blur effects to hide the awful textures
>Preorder DLC, season passes up the ass
>huge marketing campaign
>rather than fighting Korean twinks as a Cyborg ninja oper8tor on a picturesque tropical Island you're fighting downgraded tranny aliens and evil whyte people in Jew York of all places with an award winning OST composed by (((Hans Zimmer)))
>no more separate suit modes, strength mode is now context-sensitive for kicking cars and armor mode has some retarded WHOA DUDE LOOKIT THEM HEXAGONS bloody screen, the only separate mode remaining is cloak mode
>Graphics are now (((realistic))), e.g. it looks like some third rate Capeshit movie with unnecessary shader passes up the ass compared to the rich, carefully balanced graphics of the first game
>Whereas in the first game the nanosuit was just some expensive power armor manufactured by not-Lockheeb, in Crysis 2 it's treated as the second coming of Christ made out of alien sperm that can cure alien AIDS by itself
>Nomad died in some shitty tie in comic after Crysis 1's ending, Psycho is nowhere to be found and Alcatraz turns into a Nigger at the end
>Maps are way smaller than the first game, provide less options to fuck around with shit, scripted sequences everywhere
>Multiplayer mode is some gay CoD knockoff with preorder dogtags, map packs and other assorted faggotry
>PC version didn't have a DX11 render backend+high res textures and such until 3 months post-launch
>game sells less than 3 million copies
<Crysis 1 gets a godawful console port
>Crytek runs out of budget for game journalists prior to the release of Crysis 3
>game is even worse than Crysis 2 and almost bankrupts the company
It angers me.
All the things needed to make the sequel serviceable gameplay wise even if they'd stuck to the retarded Jew York story were already in place, but of course (((they))) had to shit all over that which is good as usual.
Anyhow feel free to discuss good games released during 2004-2008 whose sequels/patches released post-financial crisis turned to complete shit by pure coincidence.

Crysis was the end of an era.
You don't see anymore PC-centric FPS's really trying to push the envelope of what can be achieved with the newest hardware anymore, they're all compromised with DLC, console-centric design, no map editors (or shitty, restrictive map editors like NuDoom's Snapmap) and no mod or custom multiplayer server support at-all.
God I fucking miss those days. The closest a recent game might have come for me was Far Cry 5 which had a pretty damn good map editor, but was completely fucked-over by the lack of mode customization, mod support, or server customization, all you got was basic-ass deathmatch so there was no foundation to build a community of any kind on it.
Pics-related are what I feel are other great examples of what I'm talking about, the progressive PC-made FPS's that all died-out in favor of BR-cocksuckery and faggots screaming over paid cosmetics instead of skins, maps, or even modes they would find for free with a modding scene.

Destroying buildings and trees and throwing chickens at the gooks were tactical choices you could make instead of arbitrary puzzles and level design roadblocks for the sake of "huehueh check out how you can weigh this seesaw down to get to the other side!"

In the older games it basically was a gimmick and I would chock that up to being hardware limitations of the time not allowing it to really flourish with the design. Guerilla was a lot of fun but it was still held-back by the current gen console's limitations and we haven't really seen any games expand on that scope of destruction since then, just look at Crackdown 3's laughable wrecking crew mode, which is even less impressive than Guerilla is today.

Speaking of physics, it's a feature coming into UE4.
It's a technique called Voronoi fracturing, you can have that feature in Blender 2.79 called "cell fracturing". It basically splits your model into small chunks. One method of using it is replacing the non-fractured model with the fractured one when it collides with an object.

Anons remember it fondly because it's one of the last tech demo games that made them feel like the future of gaming would lead somewhere good. They remember it breaking their PC with its graphics and how it was a benchmark to come back to for several years after release with each PC upgrade. It's the tail-end of the 90s and 00s inspired fever dream where gaming was just going to keep getting better. In reality it was a mildly amusing FPS game thanks to the suit's superpowers and the ability to push around Koreans but there's not much more to it than that. A tech demo.

Was Crysis 1 even marketed on the merits of its gameplay?
As far as I can recall the sequels tried to hype up the considerably neutered Suit powers, Crysis 1 was viewed as more of an interactive Grafics benchmark which didn't have nowhere near the marketing budget of 2.
Oddly enough Crysis 2 failed to surpass the original games' sales despite launching on 3 platforms with preorder exclusive DLC, season passes, tie in novels and other horseshit the original game+Warhead did not have.

it was mostly marketed on videos about physics barrel chairs falling apart and blowing up.

Crytek learned the hard way graphics aren't a selling point everywhere and you need to make a good game eventually

If that were the case they wouldn't be on the verge of bankruptcy since 2014.

I don't personally care one way or the other about crysis, but your mincing feminized posting style is enough to tell you to fuck off. your gayness acts as a tripcode ffs

kind of a dumb comparison to make. at the time i had a new core2duo, 2 x1950 xtx video cards that are like $500 each. and whatever the fastest/most memory my motherboard at the time could take, which i think was 8gb.
crysis with maxed settings couldnt even run at a stable framerate. sure it was better than a $300 360, but yea, it was like a $2000 computer.

Everything about this, the character models, the skinning, the animations, the complete lack of lighting, the achievement, the payment, the fact that an entire quest is just a cutscene, and of course the literal cuckold shit. There is no excuse, this is morally and artistically reprehensible.

Of course it existed before. It's a technique called Voronoi/Cell fracturing. Superhot used it after all.
UE4's new update just automates the process so that it would be used for networking as well.

As much as Crytek were fucking insane during the early 2010s buying studios left and right while still shilling for the CryEngine without a killer app that utilized it to the full, still disappointed with Crysis 2 and 3, and then there's Ryse Son of Rome.

>Graphics so pretty they raped PCs for some 3 years down the line
That's not true at all. Crysis had near perfect optimization and I had no problem running it on my PC back in the day. Am I the only one that had not 90x PC in 2007? And whats your problem with crysis 2? It was a great game, much better than first one that felt like some unfinished test project, maybe you mean third game? Cause it does suck big time.

I remember Crysis 1 causing BSoDs on my new gaming laptop in 2008 because it used to overheat. Warhead had no problems and I saw a few more fps at the same settings. It had a Core2Duo 2.26Ghz with a 9800M GS with 512MB GDDR3. I remember playing on medium settings at 1366x768. I later upgraded the CPU to 2.8GHz. I really miss the days when you could swap out and upgrade laptop CPUs and GPUs from parts from ebay. I even bought a USB 3.0 ExpressCard for it that worked great.
