between the final days of my highschool years until the time I stopped being a NEET, I made up this sims world entirely out of families I created in buildings I built over time.

I even added some characters from stuff I like, including Mario, Reimu, the Aqua Teen Hunger Force (and Carl), the family from this Doujin https://exhentai.org/g/574293/03f5fc7ae9/ and a frat house full of Galo Sengens. I also added myself and my friends for fun

every day I would try to add more to the city and watch the exploits of my creations.

It managed to last 3.5 generations until the save got corrupted because I installed the pets expansion and to put the nail on the coffin, the computer itself went kaput about 3 years ago.

I tried reviving it again on my current laptop, but Jesus christ, the game is so poorly optimized that I can't even watch sims interact without waiting for a whole minute for a sim to just move.

Sims 3 runs better in that department than 4 believe it or not. People harp on about how optimized 4 is, but with multitasking the simulation lag becomes so fucking unbearable. Sims will stand around for an hour like brainless retards trying to figure out how to get food supplies out of the fridge. It could take your Sim up to 2 hours just to take a shit because they decided to eat their yogurt while on the pot. Also, fast forward while sleeping and at work will randomly decide to freeze time and sometimes completely reverse it for no determinable reason. Thought it was five in the morning? Fuck you, it's actually 4:13 a.m.! I'd gladly take the minor stutters every ten minutes in 3 than the shit that happens in 4.

and then the tacked on season simulator, and with all the calculations and rng events and tracking of objects it just is one big mess to try and recreate it in it's entirety

That said, sims 3 is mostly bearable if you put everything on an ssd, but I mean everything, the install, the expansions, and move the documents folder where it stores all the cache files because that slows it to shit.

I haven't run ts3 in a while, but the last time I did this happened to the family I loaded up:

1: there's no copyright issue unless a copyright actually gets infringed. EA can't actually copyright or patent the mechanics, only the mechanism (in this case the expanded code structure) by which the effect is accomplished. Besides, believe it or not, there's prior art (pic related)

2: setting up a needs-based AI system sounds simple but you also have to set up prioritization; how hungry does your sim have to be before he stops blogging and makes dinner, that sort of thing. This prioritization is further skewed by their personality traits.

And then once the state's been decided you have to code it in such a fashion that only the actions related to the state will be executed while simultaneously being interruptible by player input.

This is even more complex in a game like the sims where, due to variable level layout, the code must find the nearest source of fulfilling the need, navigate to it, and interact with it.

And you have to code this for every conceivable state and action.

It would be a simple matter to craft a sims-like system where the player controls all the actions. Throwing in AI makes it quite complex

I first played Sims 3 when it initially dropped and it was terrible and featureless compared to a fully expanded Sims 2 but I just got into playing it recently with the ATF modball and it truly is the most fun I've ever had with this fucking series, bar maybe the initial experience with it I had with 1 back when 1 was new. Even when I don't feel like embracing the most pornographic it can be, it's cool that it just makes the contexts of the world less childishly limited and arbitrary. I was playing a house for a bit with a nevernude neurotic spastic that hated all forms of socialization with sims but lived in a town full of exhibitionist rapist degenerate pedophiles and it was fucking hilarious watching him suffer. If you play this broken ass game without KW you're missing out.

Oh yeah the default gameplay elements are what makes it, if it was just the sex it would be boring as fuck but the sex plus the comfy has literally made me lose all track of my life to the point of not eating like some fucking Korean MMOfag for 14 hour sessions. I just grabbed the repack from the share thread on here and the modball on ATF and it runs pretty okay considering how the game is CPU-limited 32-bit and utilizes memory like an alzheimer's patient. I have pretty okay SSDs, but nothing special hardware wise in general. The most troublesome part is create a sim because the sheer number of options makes the game shit itself unless you are slow and deliberate with your clicks.

Supernatural is a must if you want to play in a medieval town like Dragon Valley, but the inability to disable the zombies is fucking annoying (you can nix them by turning on cheats and shift clicking your mailbox whenever they appear but come the fuck on)

University can be skipped if you don't plan to go to college and don't want plantsims

Island Paradise should only be installed if you have at least 8GB of RAM. Yes the game can only take advantage of 4GB, but your OS is eating a big chunk of that

What the fuck are you talking about? Programming The Sims is no more difficult than programming any other game of the same scope. The biggest issue is that recreating all of it is a lot of fucking work. Not that any of the systems are particularly difficult to make, just that there are a LOT of them. From a technical perspective what you'd need would be:

Systems, in order of chronological importance:

> 2D-Grid based game world on a 3D-heightmap environment

> Simple A* pathfinding that takes into account building z-levels

> Character AI via a priority based need list / goal oriented finite state machine

> Obviously some simple systems for tracking things like mood, needs, health, social

> Dynamic buildings/houses with Z-levels since it's all on a grid and just generating quads for everything this wouldn't be as hard as it sounds

> exhaustive social interaction system that takes into account character personality and interpersonal disposition

> Human body models with a paper-doll clothing/hair system for male/female/teenagers/children. God help you if you want variable body types eg: muscular/fat

> Head models with deform options (likely shape keys) to allow customizable faces

> "Genetics" system to believably generate children from their parents

> job/school system with performance tracking and presumably advancement/punishment feature

> off-screen simulation progression to ensure your neighbours age, procreate, and get jobs

And asset wise:

> a fuckload of hair and clothing options (have fun weight painting all the clothes, asshole)

> a fuckload of animations for every possible action/interaction. And I mean a FUCK load. You better have at least half a dozen full time animators if you want to be done any time in the next three years
