I've owned this game for a couple years now. I thought it was shit when I first played. I got back into it about a week ago, just in time for square to milk me for some recently released dlc that I'll have to buy. But aside from that. I've got about fifty hours in. Just beat the main storyline. Pretty decent story. I also played through the 3 partner dlcs. I'm still fucking around in the post game doing all the shit I missed and working up to fighting the ultimate bosses and doing the post game dungeon shit. Anyone else into this?

I bought it on launch for the ps4 and I liked it a lot, the downtime moments and the general camaraderie shared by a bunch of dudes was pretty comfy, When it was ROADTRIP simulator, it was probably the most attached to a FF game I ever was, though the last chapter was far too breakneck and disjointed, though the DLC seemed to be on track with fixing the pacing a bit I may revisit it when the Ardyn DLC is released, but it just felt too uneven to do so of my own volition, And the ending felt pretty sad, but I felt like it could have been better if the game spent another 2 years in the oven.
I don't know, I actually felt pretty bummed when I found out square canceled the rest of the DLCS and honestly, would have liked a full blown prequel chapter with The big bad, as his story on it's own was far more interesting than Noctis's own, hell, I think with the inclusion of more content and a chapter like this, would have made Noctis's story more interesting by proxy

FF Versus 13 was Nomura's "Grown-up" version of his Kingdom Hearts self-insert OC, they announced a "theoretical game" while also developing FF13 and FF13 Agito (Type-0), the game had almost 13 fucking years in development till they released it, they had no fucking idea what the game is, and they still had assets wasting around, so they got Hajime Tabata try and salvage what assets were made so far, he made them fucking play "open-world" games like Red Dead Redemption to get an idea, it was Squeenix playing-catch up to Western game design, the original story was the same as FF13 and Type-0, defying fate and moving the invisible hand that controls mankind and the world, it got subverted in this final episode, then instead of thanking Hajime Tabata, he "resigned". Nomura and Toriyama are still in Squeenix while a guy who got the shittiest job to salvage Nomura's fanfic OC got fired. Well fuck FF15, fuck Nomura, and fuck Squeenix.

That got scrapped in favour of the homosexual boy band road trip, so instead they were going to release a stand-alone episode where best girl and best character got her own episode all to herself.
And then they fucking scrapped that too!

It doesn't help that the last half of the game is one rushed linear corridor of fuckery, completely different from the first half of lazy open world wandering, when it should be the complete opposite thematically since the first half of the game is all about escaping an assassination attempt (BTW buy the movie or you won't understand what the fuck is happening!) and the second half…I can't even remember really. Travelling to the empire because not-Tom Baker manipulated everyone into doing this despite there being much easier ways to achieve his goals because Nomura can't give directions to the house across the street without ninety degree plot-holes and 180 switcheroos disguised as "too deep" because he was beaten too often as a child with a belt and the heavy buckle gave him brain damage and that's why he has a fetish for belts and zippers now.

FFXV is a good game. It's just not the masterpiece that people were expecting, and there's no way it could have been with the hype that it had created.
But in not being perfect, while also being highly experimental, it became a target for players who prefer the more traditional mechanics of the series to assault, in order to convince people that the series as a whole needs to return to its roots.
I would liken it to FFVIII in that way. FFVIII was a great game, but there's no way it could have lived up to VII. So people who were unhappy with both VII and VIII attacked VIII because they knew that it had disappointed a lot of people, and that they could use it to convince people that the series needed to go back to the way it was before VII.
And that's not even going into the whole Nomura betrayal thing.
What I'm trying to say is, you shouldn't be ashamed of liking FFXV. It's a really good game, but it represents a lot more than what you see on the surface level. It's really difficult for people to just play it and enjoy it for what it is, and if you like it regardless of the shit surrounding it, that's great. Dont let anyone tell you that you're wrong for doing so.

There was potential for greatness in FFXV but in the end it became a mismanaged mess of a game. From splitting Nomura between this and KH3 and both coming out half baked (XV is far worse), the plot getting rewritten and Squenix hyping this up to be the next FF VII and failing due to shoving the budget into pointless shit, it's a shame. There's KH4 on the horizion but I'm not holding out any hope. This is honestly the only time I would like Squenix to do a XV-2 like game and redo the plot and reuse assets so they can get shit right.
