Pretty much this.

Some slight improvements that make it worth it as well as some additional content that you can ignore. For example, you don't have to add the dice yourself to get your total roll during character creation, the game does it for you. There are some graphical options that make it run better on a computer, and generally there are small things that just make the game play a bit better. EE of Baldur's Gate is definitely worth a pirate if you want to play it.

Planescape:torment EE is a straight upgrade, since it doesn’t have any additional content. The only relevant thing that they changed was the experimental UI the original game had, but most people hated it, anyway.

Icewind dale and Neverwinter Nights follow the same trend.

Baldurs gate, however, is where things get pozzed. The first one has an edgy,pansexual, lawful evil orc fighter that has the highest stats in the game; and a purple-haired, completely uninteresting half-elf wild-mage. Literally the definition of a special snowflake. Technically you can just not recruit them, but they will keep showing up in some other parts of the game.

Siege of dragonspear has a very nonsensical plot with an unkillable tranny that is crucial for the plot due to totally organic reasons, goy and a few improvements over BG1. Mechanically, it is probably the best of the 3 games and it also has some interesting scenes that tie BG1 to BG2, but the main plot really screws it up. It would had been much better if it had only the beginning, the mind flayed dungeon, the bridge scene and the ending, but oh well.

BG2 brings back the same new characters from BG1 with an extra black lesbian vampire lord that has even higher stats than the pansexual orc, only losing to a certain demigod. She is also unkillable, because once she dies, she will turn into ash and go to an item you have. Also, in general, there are less improvements in BG2 than in BG1. I’d say that the improved edition of BG1 is even a little better than BG2EE, at least back when I played them.

Overall, beamdog proves to be an highly incompetent company in which years of work amount to what a single amateur modder could do in a few months. I can’t ever justify buying one of their rereleases, só either pirate them or buy the originals. and pirate them afterwards

You might want to get your hands on Neverwinter Nights 2 and then download the Baldur's Gate remake (it's installed as a mod). It's tad buggy so make lots of backup saves. The second game (SoA+ToB) is getting a remake too and it should be out in a couple of months.

I bought BG2EE and played through it once. Got to the dream part on the pirate island where you lose your soul, and Bhaal wouldn't follow me inside the library to talk to Imoen. I basically couldn't progress through the story. Every new piece of content for both BG1EE and BG2EE stick out sorely. The voice acting is absolute garbage, the writing is completely immersion breaking, the new characters are donut steal OC overpowered pieces of shit with dumb as fuck innate abilities, and the constant patching makes modding a headache.

Blog: I bought it to play with a friend who had never played BG2 before, except the motherfucker chimped out. So I had that shit collecting dust on my Steam library, so when I did my every-couple-of-years replay, I decided to try it with the EE. It was horrible. Especially the vampire chick.

Avoid Siege of Dragonspear, pirate both EE editions, they're good overhauls but make sure to never buy it, just pirate it (they're GOG games so they're easy to find), never give a penny to that wretched company.

I played about 90 minutes of the BG1 EE and got pissed off by the way the journal scrolled because it was clearly designed for tablets. I went back to trilogy and never saw any of the new content but it seems like the EEs don't do anything that mods didn't already do for free, except perhaps improve compatibility.

Quite a lot bar to set considering Fallout is an unfinished mess of bugs, unrealized mechanics, and an extreme lack of actual content. Exile III came out 6 months before Fallout and is quite literally 10x the game it is.

Hybrid doesn't try to mix both soundtracks, you'll still have almost entirely the soundtrack of whichever part of the game you're playing.

It's been a while, but I think the reason that option exists is that there's not enough room for the full soundtracks of both games, so choosing full for one forces some music from the other to be omitted. Hybrid attempts to find a middle ground.

Last I checked; which to be fair was over a year ago, the mods work for both versions of the game. There's no reason to use EE since it's essentially a collection of preinstalled mods, and there's 5 of those which are insanely easy to install. Fixpack, 1pp (which from what I remember isn't fully implemented in EE because of some dispute), Tweaks, Unfinished Business, and Widescreen.

The "required" mods are Fixpack and Widescreen. There's no point to EE.

Worlds of Ultima is a sub-series not a game. Origin was starting to break and they tried to reutilize Ultima6's engine with other stuff.

Exiles have their charm but they are not good games, specially when compared to other contemporary stuff.

Tried getting this running myself yesterday. With widescreen mod at 1280x768 the game didn't run smoothly, and at standard 640x480 you just don't see enough of the screen. Even putting aside how annoying it is scrolling around every half a second just to move, I don't like not being able to appreciate all the buildings. And playing in the original resolution definitely isn't what the game designers would have wanted if they had a choice so I can't even say it's the "vanilla" experience and tolerate it.
