I think it’s just a hard sell to a western audience. Nioh already sort of filled the niche of a Sengoku Souls, and this game isn’t really for the Souls audience in the first place as it’s closer to an action game like MGR or Ninja Gaiden. I mean not really? The combat is more and less refined somehow and you have way less options on how to approach any given situation. It feels like it's trying to be too many things at once, a stealth game, a souls game, and a tenchu clone. It doesn't do any of them particularly well. there's not really any character building aside from the trees either, and it feels like they were just too afraid to take the last step in a lot of places.

The combat's nice and fluid, except that if you hit R1 too many times you get a canned animation doing a sick execute that you get tired of seeing far too quickly. The stance system feels more limiting on how you can approach any given boss than giving you more options.

It's a 6/10 right now. Unless it somehow whips it's ass into high gear and manages to make everything flow perfectly it'll at most be a 7/10. It's not awful, not worth full price.

It's like they're trying to push the block/deflect system so hard that the enemy attacks gain arbitrary tracking on them after you dodge one time too many, and some enemies don't have a clear tell whether you're supposed to try to dodge their shit or deflect it.

I've played up to the ogre in the first level and have just beaten the spear guy in the dream or whatever, and I'm really not feeling this game from what I've seen so far. I just finish replaying Bloodborne a few weeks ago and as tired as the formula was getting I think I'd still prefer Bloodborne 2 Nipponese Boogaloo to this.

The combat looks to be more intricate given the skill tree, the prosthetic arm weapons, and new mechanics like jumping over swings and grappling enemies mid-fight, but the focus on parries above all else is really dull. Regular combat is simply not fun so far. This wasn't the case for me even in Dark Souls II.

Stealth is heavily incentivized given how much damage stealth attacks do and how dangerous regular enemies are when fought head-on compared to previous games, but the stealth itself is the same Ass Creed-tier boring shit you see in every fucking game now. So far its use in boss fights has consisted entirely of deleting one of their health bars for free if you can be assed to clear out some enemies first.

Really the only clear improvement over previous games for me is the grappling hook. The levels are really vertical so it's fun zooming about them from point to point compared to the methodical snail's pace walking I usually do on my first playthrough of these games. The problem is it's wasted on a setting and story which so far do absolutely nothing for me.

Nah, fuck this game. It's actually a trashfire. Dork Souls mostly felt like I was bad at the game, but this shit is just annoying. I wail on a boss for five minutes at a time just to slow his stamina regen, so that I can wail on him for a minute just to get the precanned animation, just to do it all over again. While every boss has a sweep attack that comes out in four frames or some shit and requires you to jump instead of the blocking and dodging, which you do for literally fucking everything else, and it kills you in one shot.

By mission 2 you've already had a chance to explore everything that really matters because the game gives that shit to you upfront in the tutorial which is mission 1 and mission 2 which is generally a free for all for you to have fun with the introduced controls. At the end of mission 3 you are fully within your right to dislike the game and stop playing right there because the game takes the kids gloves off at the last moment.

Sekirei meanwhile you definitely have not even reached the boss yet it the same amount of time. Overall the pacing is just terrible.

you didn't. At the end of each boss fight you get the "Shinobi Execution" screen, so at least 3 of those 4 were just minibosses.

that's the worst thing you could use them for. In the un-upgraded form you can use them to delay enemies' posture recovery but the best use I found was that you can throw them to stun Lady Butterfly while she's mid-air which allows you to get 5-10% free damage. There's also the upgrade tree through which you can significantly increase their damage and turn them into multi-hit projectiles but since you didn't play the game for long enough you probably don't even know that this upgrade tree exists.

By mission 3 you'll already be set on your favorite style you want to play the game with. The first two missions is nothing but throwing enemies at you, not trying out separate styles from trickster is entirely your choice. The only prevention of any serious exploration of styles is simply because of how clunky the UI is for that so you'll want to stick with one once you see how much EXP you'll need for 3 which is max level. You will definitely be familiar with trickster by Cerberus since it's just a dodge. The only valid consideration for Mission 4 is that it is climbing Tartarus proper plus the new weapon and you get your first bullshit boss in the Centipede whose only real solution is trying to hit it's glowing balls. Even then the new weapon already has a full combo string and if you're not familiar with combos by that point then you're simply retarded.

I literally can't Grapples have always been janky, from day 1 in Demon Souls. It's why that game had so so few grapples in it, because they knew the engine was just shit for it. Then Iron Golem in Dark S took things to a whole new level. Then it was mimics in DS2, etc.

It's not really intricate or detailed, it's a pretty barebones system which isn't bad but you're forced to play the game like that. If it were more "spam shit like a faggot and win or parry shit like a faggot and win with cool moves" it'd be better but so far it's a fun game but I'm too shit at it for it to be fun and there's too many annoying minibosses that require you to use deathblows.

Maybe I just haven't gotten far enough and I'm probably still biased because I got really fucking pissed off with the dragonrot and the sheer amount of enemies and damage they deal after that bullshit ogre but it doesn't feel anything like a soulsborne game which is most likely intended but it feels like a huge downgrade. Damm i ended hating death blows by endgame, it would have been better if those would have reserved for bigger enemys, minibosses and bosses. Otherwise combat feel like good but something is missing or it needed some changes. maybe spiting avoiding hits to dodge and jump wasn't right idea, maybe it would have actualy made compat more fluid and less deflect/counter attacking and running around.

Levels are from great to bad, moving whit graple is great and exsploration is great. i wish game was less lineral in places and resolved around castle.

It feels more open because a lot of the world is vertical. Take the castle for example its a huge area that you can climb all the way to the top with multiple bosses and minibosses along the way.

The thing I like about this game is you can't use your stats as a crutch like you can in Nioh and DaS.
