Let's talk about what video games you consider comfy and what exactly makes a game comfy for you. I'm going to give three features in video games that always make it incredibly comfy for me.
>Non-direct involvement in the game
Example: Duskers
I love when a game allows me to control different things from a point of safety while all the danger is outside of my place. This doesn't just mean games that allow me to control units like RTS, no, I mean games that create actual environment, or at least the illusion of environment that I sit in in safety while others do the dangerous stuff for me. Duskers is a perfect example, it's a horror game where you play as a space pilot, sitting in a ship in a completely dead galaxy, flying from ship to ship and gathering resources by sending bots. The entire game is done through the interface of your ship computer, so you do in a way feel as if you are in a ship. Duskers is also an example for another feature which is
>The contrast between safety and terror
Example: Duskers, S.T.A.L.K.E.R kind of but not really
I love when a game has visibly contrasting moments of horror and safety, in Duskers that feeling is conveyed by the previous feature, after all you are technically safe in your ship, unless you fuck something up, which creates both tension and a sense of safety. S.T.A.L.K.E.R kind of does it as well, when the actual stalker camps are relatively safe, and it feels like a nice rest from all the terror of the Zone though it's not exactly what I'm looking for in a comfy game, although it makes the game partially comfy
>Vehicles with actual environments you can walk in
Example: Outer Wilds, Minecraft in the past when the Zeppelin Mod was still a thing
This must be done at least from third person, preferably from the first person but whenever a game is done from a vehicle that you can walk in, it feels incredibly comfy. Especially if that vehicle is a bit bigger in case of Outer Wilds it's small, but still. Bonus points for being able to get out and inside the vehicle again. What makes this incredibly comfy for me, is that it feels like taking a portable house on your adventure, so you still get the best of the two worlds, you have a comfy settlement you can always rest in, but you do not miss out on all the fun of adventuring.
What about you /v/, do you have any features in games that you consider comfy? Do you know of any games that tick at least one of the three boxes I mentioned?
