You'll need both to hook and translate the game.

Start up ITH first and then TA. Then start up the visual novel. In ITH look for the game's exe and accept it. Nasu is very imaginative and clever but he is without a doubt the most shameless retcon king in Japanese fiction writing. F/SN is one prolonged multi-route self-retcon where he spends HOURS in narration, monologues and events expressing very clear, definitive and rational rules of the War, of the world's mechanics, of magic, etc. only to then break each and every single one in the following route.

And Fate/Extra CCC is better than F/SN's Heaven's Feel without a doubt. I prefer the first game, however, and the themes and subtlety explored therein. F/SN is a mess where you literally can only have one route where everything is not only revealed but resolved and it's objectively the worst, literally universally derided (though respected) my most everyone who read the thing.

I didn't have whole new characters, plot lines and world abberrations in Extra that broke the narrative of what was already established just because Nasu had a new idea and wanted to write three different stories in the same game and cast. Well…not until Twice Pieceman. oof

From what I've seen the game sucks but maybe that's just me being bitter I can't decipher moon. That said, yeah CCC trounces its predecessor in a lot of ways.

The ceremony of the Dark Six already deprived the world of mana and resources, the planet's dead/dying/shifting humanity into Liner territory. 128 people jump the Moon Cell for various reasons and not knowing it's a rigged game. Your MC is a blank slate NPC copy of a comatose cadaver whose one meaningful relationship (with your Servant) has a limited shelf life. The antagonist is, like FFIX, out of left field, not fleshed out, and ultimately not holding on to anything important, given your character doesn't use the Cell's resources to fix/heal Earth. Thus, no big stakes.

Him obtaining the Grail (provided Twice didn't kill him) means the world stagnates and its fate doesn't change. I actively DISLIKE Fate/Extra Encore, but it did at least detail that one particular character flaw pretty well. What he wants will mean all of dick in the larger picture.

That's counter-guardians in general, and even then, he's not one of the strongest (well, after his nerf). Short version is yes, it's like SCP in that you have to look after abnormalities, get boxes of energy from them via interaction and met a set quota before you can move on. There's 5 levels of danger and some are more benign than others. Some might be helpful but they usually have an effect that you have to cope with. You control a few people and make sure they all stay inside their pens. Unfortunately, after 5 interactions or so an alert will go out an event will play, this usually co-insides with some of them escaping and it can quickly spiral out from there. Just have your guys beat them back inside and you should be fine.

The more you study a subject you can eventually unlock weapons and gear to deal different damage and help our peons survive longer. Now I'd actually recommend you look up the wiki as some of the descriptions are kinda rubbish in what they tell you and it's like interacting with an SCP without knowing what it is. It will probably kill your person the first time they interact with it, or worse, release it.

Gameplay loop is pretty fun, can get a little repetitive but it's something you get use to.

I'll say it now though, the translation is borked. It was sent to a korean guy who didn't speak English for translation so just fed it through google translate, they fixed up the tutorial so you at least know what you're doing but most of the story events are in engrish. That being said, it's is a bit of a fucked up world and I understand most of the story even if the text about it is weird. Give it a go, you might like it.

I read through the new If My Heart Had Wings, it was actually a lot better than I expected it would be. Of course the H scenes were cut, but the T rated scenes that replaced them were pretty lewd in their own right. There's a whole all-ages original scene in the Kazato twins route that has you taking a shower with both of them while making out, before they start making out with each other in front of you. None of that was in the original, I checked. The translation was not bad either, outside of a handful of spelling and grammar mistakes.
