I remember really enjoying the TT/RotK tie-in games on consoles/PC. They were basically action games but what kind of impressed me is that they were the kind of action games that were aiming for the same kind "realistic" combat gameplay that modern games like Ass Creed and Bamham try to do while keeping it challenging and managed to largely pull it off. Sure, there were special "insta-kill" counter moves but the difference is that they were advanced upgrades that you had to purchase with skill points and the button combo to activate them was actually pretty tricky to pull off because of the strict timing and the fact that enemies are ALWAYS attacking you, with 4 to 5 at a time, so you had to be pretty damn skilled to pull it off. If anything, I think modern games could learn a hell of a lot from them.

Yeah, there were two of them, one for the Two Towers (which, like the console/PC versions, also covered part of Fellowship of the Ring) and one for Return of the King. I remember them being surprisingly hard too.
