I found it added an extra level of difficulty to the game, as I would frequently be tempted to lose on purpose if one of my favourite girls showed up in a special case (demonically possessed Otome in a swimsuit, instant game over). It WAS unfortunate that the only way to see some of these animations was to find the right level, get far enough to see your girl, and then lose on purpose.
To be fair, they fixed it (somewhat) in Gal Gun 2: rescuing girls in specific missions rewards you with their phone numbers. You can then call your favourite girl and (once you get her affection high enough) ask her to do any of the animations for you, including pushing you down and stepping on you.

>they should have varied attack patterns based on their archetype.
This x1000. I wish they'd gone in this direction for GG2. The girls are already a widely varied bunch with surprisingly detailed personalities for how many of them there are; each of them has their own distinct voice (and even their own endings, in Double Peace). It would have been perfect if they actually moved/attacked in distinct ways appropriate to their personalities in-game.
