MvC2 sucked. It was nothing but characters copy pasted into one big clusterfuck with the worst and most out of place stages in fighting game history. It was the precursor to all those unbalanced as fuck MUGEN games. MvC1 is better in every way. The only thing 2 has for it is "muh characters"

I can't believe you still play this old game. Move on! Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite released. Just play that! It's almost 2 decades old man. There's no reason for you to still be playing it with it's broken mechanics and unbalanced roster.

I'm not an expert on fighting games by any means so forgive me if I don't see the 600 IQ mindgames, but high level play in Marvel is almost completely unparsable. It's like the kind of shit that gives kids ADHD. Also being able to fly so high that your opponent's character needs to have a pointer to show where they are seems like pretty degenerate game design for a fighting game.

In MVC1 only Hulk can be considered C tier.

Zangief (steel skin) is actually quite good and everyone else is at least B tier or better

Never understood fighting games, one could write a bot within half a day to beat any player. It's like playing rock-paper-scissors over and over, but with more variety.

mvc2 is shit, the real unsurpassed fighting games are third strike and kof98. the only thing those games need are balance patches, the mechanics and everything else are absolutely perfect.

MvC2 is just Melee for people that can actually do a quarter circle. It's a good litmus test for telling what a persons experience level with fighting games; if someone says it's great you can tell they haven't played more than 5 other fighting games and never has gone beyond playing casually with friends.

Marvel vs Capcom was fun but it was a fucking trainwreck of a game that just happened to be good by accident, hardly balanced.

Alpha 3 tried to gimp projectiles as well. I think Capcom wanted casuals to stop complaining about fireball spam but didn't understand their own games well enough to do it properly so they flailed around trying to solve the "problem" that was actually a core part of the gameplay.

Parrying also locks you in place forcing you to either parry/block the next move, or do a quick and risky move to stuff an offensive. You're also vulnerable to grabs while parrying. Projectiles in 3s are less effective for zoning and chipping and more effective as pokes and means of creating an opening for attack. That's why Remy has his divekicks that leaps across the screen

I think UMVC3 recreated that feeling of having an absolutely broken game that was still fun to play, while capturing the essence of both marvel and capcom from the last console generation. Infinite tho, I only hear bad things about it

what? Parry puts the opponent at a frame disadvantage for counter attacks. It doesn't work well vs fast multi-attacks like supers but parrying a HP/HK gets you a better punish than just blocking.

Parry freezes you and whatever you are parrying in place. This is good if you're parrying a direct attack from an opponent, but if you parry one of their projectiles then they can move freely.

This is why people will red parry the last hit of multi-hitting projectiles (usually EX). Parrying will cause subsequent hits to come much slower which will either diminish your punish potential or give your opponent the opportunity to reposition and get a mixup. Blocking the first hit of an EX fireball and red-parrying the last will put you at a pure advantage.
