Why do far there's not big movement of indie devs who want to mix board games with videogames and basically make more complex digital board games or more complex but less action oriented videogames.

It seems there's this huge gap between the philosophies of board games and video games, but I'm still not sure why the indie devs dont get inspiration from board games or why /tg/ faggots don't make use of game engines.

I just imagine the simple posibilities of that, like a chess game with some kind of dynamic story and interaction betwen the pieces, or a turn based RTS that is more like a warhamer 40k board game.

Does a hybrid between board game and videogame exist or I am just unaware of them?

I think there was a Mario Party board game that used the GBA card reader for mini games.

Don't know how hard it is to find but it sounds like a fun concept to bad nofrens

Vidya generally benefit from being very straight forward and easy to understand with any real depth coming from a "easy to learn, hard to master" mindset. There's not really any benefit from over-complicating a game's mechanics just because the medium allows it.

That's not to say there aren't ways that board games can benefit from a vidya format though. It certainly makes stuff like simulturn more feasible for example.

Why not? If it works, it works.

Some board games have companion apps. I despise the concept. If you need a computer to help you play the board game it's a badly designed board game. Board games are a great alternative to electronic entertainment and phones should stay away because people get distracted. Unofficial companion apps usually help with tracking resources or calculating scores like at the end of Agricola. Again may be a design flaw if the tracking is too hard but I don't mind the end of game calculation with an app because the actual playing has finished. On a final more principal note, we should try to resist shoving phones as a companion to everything. Smartphones are becoming parasites infecting every aspect of life even ones that are awesome without one - board games.
