I remember trying Battle Realms and figuring out you could set the rally point from one troop production center to the next (e.g. from the Dojo to the Alchemist), which means you could essentially automate the production of Tier 3 units very easily.
However, because of this, I honestly have no idea why you'd want to use any Tier 1 or 2 unit, considering Tier 3 are objectively stronger than the previous 2 and if you play your economy right, you'll be limited by population, not resources. And considering that T3 takes the same popcap as T2 and T1, there's really no point in not running around with a bunch of Ronins.

This game tried to compete with pokemon and mario party. You drew monsters and added stuff later then played shitty minigames with them. The game itself was alright at best alone but the three chances I had to play with others were great even if I did have to pretend to be shit so they could compete. Those were fun nights. Wish I could have known someone who loved the game like I did, to have an actual competitor. It was an enjoyable experience as a child, wouldn't recommend it as an adult.
If I had to explain it to someone who'd never played it I'd say "SA2:B chao garden without story levels/items to build the chao, but also MS paint"

Project Nomads was close to being good but it was so light on every element. The setting was super cool though. I remember the bug and larva levels towards the end but I don't think I ever completed it, I still have a boxed copy.
I did complete Breed though but I don't think I had fun doing it. It had pretty good variety of missions with all the vehicles but the squad was retarded and the large maps mean't you spent ages walking everywhere. Also fuck the stealth mission.
NYR reminded me of B-Hunter which was a pseudo open world hovercar game I guess inspired by the fifth element. I have lots of fond memories of it but it's probably awful. Old games are a hassle to run and rarely worth the effort.

Tier 2 troops are specialized, Tier 1 are cheep. For example, one of the Tier 2 troops for each race is an artillery/building destroyer type. That's not something any of the Tier 3 units really excel at. Here's a list of all the different resists. An army of Kabuki Warriors (tier 2) will absolutely annihilate an army of Ronins (Tier 3) because of this.

Basic archers (tier 1) are probably the best way to handle Kabukis. They are somewhat resistant to magic and the Kabukis are somewhat weak to pierce, but more importantly they are cheap. The catch though is that you need to keep the archers at range, so that means you need some other kind of unit to get the Kabuki's attention, and no melee is actually particularly strong against them.

Neat game. Although obscure, it was a very graphically impressive game at the time, being able to render a lot of smooth terrain and characters at a stable framerate and even having mini-cameras for your teammates so you can check what they're doing, being able to evolve your genohunters and give them skills also made it great.
Strange how it never took off that far considering the graphics and the innovative "co-op w/ leveling" gameplay.

The entire nature of the game is to program, through trial and error, a mecha to go into battle for you in various different missions. There is a manual override, but the controls are so convoluted and the battles are so damn fierce that it's far more important to be able to program the AI to best the enemy.
I actually got this game for a dollar when Hollywood Video was closing down, and it came with a bundle of other REALLY hard to find games that really got my walnuts activated.
—————-
I know DAMN WELL that I'm not the only one that played Ogre Battle: MBQ on the SNES… but it sure feels that way. I was floored with the sheer amount of variables in play and the absolute depth of strategy involved with each individual decision that had to be made for the best possible solution, all the ensuring to allow the various squad combinations to work together properly.
Each unit has an alignment. Each squadron follows their commander. In order to upgrade the characters, they have to fall under a specific alignment.
Battling foes weaker than you makes you evil. Battling foes stronger than you makes you good; killing evil makes you good. Killing good makes you evil.
Your reputation and alignment over the course of the game rises and falls to reveal shittons of different endings, all the while most of the maps have special characters that can be unlocked if you fulfill certain pre-requesites. Strategy guides are available online, and holy shit, I spent weeks and months mulling over possible team comps all while trying different shit in various play-throughs.
It's so incredible.

An open-world Choro-Q game, a bit unconventional, especially if you haven't played a Choro-Q game before, but can be dangerously comfy, really a case of "play it to see if you enjoy it".

>Justice League Heroes
Incredibly mediocre RPG/beat-em-up starring numerous members of (obviously) the justice league, including some lesser-known ones like Zatanna, Huntress, and three fucking copy-paste Green Lantern variants. Has you fighting robots, man-shaped killer bees, gun-toting gorillas, extradimensional entities that scream through their hands, and several low-effort bosses. RPG side of things has standard level-up-and-distribute-points, but you can upgrade those points with gems or whateverthefuck for enhanced effects. Virtually impossible to get a fully-maxed loadout though since they range from 1-7 and you can only improve them by combining three of the same type and grade. Dueled with X-men Legends, but never got a spiritual successor like X-ML. Played this shit way too much and loved every god-forsaken moment. Still have it.
Also the first game I played that had newgame+, kickstarting my infatuation with such a system.
>Crimson Skies:High Road to Revenge
H.A.W.X, but older and in the 1930's or somesuch. Also, zeppelins, and a shitload of them. A handful of planes with minor differences in durability/firepower and a special weapon unique to each. Story was….okay, but it flip-flops between "We're pirates, but we barely do any pirating so we're more like mercenaries" to "Crazy obviously-evil dude has a grudge against us, so he builds uber-blimp that shits lightning and has a crappy steampunk BattleMech in its nose. Also he killed Doc Brown, so we bomb the shit out of Chicago." Kinda-sorta open world, in the sense that you can do pirating, racing, and finding upgrade tokens in-between missions. Genuinely enjoyable, in all honesty.
Also has newgame+, but it just keeps your upgraded planes. Nothing else to carry over.
>Hot Wheels Jetz
X-treme COOL Letterz to the MaXX!! Aggressively shitty in every regard, I got it for a $0.75 at a garage sale out of pure curiosity and still feel cheated. Another combat plane game, this one being toy planes bombing other toys under control of a bad MechWarrior ripoff. But, I finished the whole slog out of sheer spite for my well-being. Three difficulty modes, pretty sure one didn't work, and the beginner one makes you literally unkillable. Harder ones make you land at base to finish the mission, that's it. Hot Wheels games are generally bad to begin with, but this takes the cake.
Still, shooting shit up in the kitchen while flying a UFO has *some* novelty value.
>LEGO Rock Raiders
Dungeon Keeper, LEGO edition. Expeditionary mining group falls through the Warp and ends up at a mysterious planet/huge asteroid that just so happens to have a strong concentration of MacGuffinite to repair and repower their damaged cruiser. Each level is a self-contained challenge, ranging from horny monsters to cave-ins to depleting oxygen reserves. Each Raider is unique and nameable, with their upgrades persisting through every level you beam them down to, but if they die they stay dead. Numerous buildings and vehicles for you to use, but some are borderline or literally worthless. Frustratingly impossible when I was younger, an easy breeze now. The greatest product to come out of the Rock Raider line of sets, though unfortunately never got a proper reboot or successor when Power Miners came out.
Still have old torrent files stored away on my decaying XP machine in the closet. Also has a sizable modding community, for some fucking reason. Decent mods tho.

I get that they wanted to make 3d modeling easy but making the ideal 3d shape when you have to work on a 2d plane is hell, especially with the torso. I don't care who you are this game was fucking HYPE
I remember getting it for Christmas and had tons of fun playing, from building vehicles, exploring maps, and the races themselves.
I was a fan of the first game, and the car building mechanic where depending on the design would affect the performance, but they took it up a notch by not only making the vehicles destructible but if you lost all your parts you had to go on foot until you can reach a repair point. So you had to choose whether to be safe and load up your vehicle on pieces for a couple of extra hits, or exchange that for speed but be easier to take out. And nothing is more satisfying than forcing Rocket Racer to walk but also hit him with your car.
I remember in grade school we had a single day towards the end of the year we could bring our own stuff in and have a free day. So I brought in my PS2 and it fucking rocked with how many people got to play.

>Jersey Devil
The people I've tried to show it to hate it right away because the look of the game and the fact that you glide make you think it's gonna feel like Spyro, but it doesn't. The glide doesn't give you that much horizontal distance, but if you go in expecting it to give you as much as Spyro's glide, you'll be dying in every pit. It requires more precise platforming. Combat is more like something like Crash Bandicoot. Nothing is quite as polished as that game, but it all works well, and the spooky halloween theme is a lot of fun. I actually highly recommend it. Very good 3D platformer.
>Tobal No. 1
I know it got a sequel in Japan so it can't be that obscure over there, but here I only hear people say they tried it because it came with a demo of Final Fantasy VII. I got it in like 1996 or 1997 and wasn't even aware of a Final Fantasy demo. I was aware that it was a pretty cool 3D fighting game when those were still novel. Also, the back of the manual had an ad for the "new" show, Dragon Ball Z, advertising it as being by the same creator. I was in Canada, where Dragon Ball had briefly aired a couple years before, and I was sort of into it, so that was cool. Especially as I continued watching DBZ and saw more and more characters appear who looked like characters from Tobal.
But the part that kept me coming back to the game was the Quest Mode, where you explore maze-like dungeons and sometimes getting attacked by enemies, which you would then fight like the regular game. It's actually really good. The only issue is the difficulty curve. You have five dungeons. The first has two floors and each successive one has like one extra floor. Then the last dungeon has 30. Over 20 years I've been trying to beat this game and see the mysterious last boss, but I never have. Levels 2-4 unlock the tournament mode bosses, but I can't get that fucking last level.
>ReBoot: The Game
I already mentioned I'm Canadian. ReBoot is the only thing I have to be proud of this country for. The game is actually cool as an episode of the show, technically a prequel that takes place right before the first episode, and shows the origins of a few characters. Too bad some moron decided to have the whole game, which is otherwise a shooter, take place on a skateboard, completely fucking the controls. Otherwise an okay game, but that really kills it.

Eternal Sonata and both versions of Digimon World: Re;digitize are the only games Tri-Crescendo has developed solely on their own. Baten Kaitos was a co-development with Monolith Soft, Fragile Dreams a co-development with Bamco (who then couldn't be fucked to bring the game over themselves, thus XSEED picking it up), Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow was a co-development with Mistwalker, Danboru Senki is co-developed with Level 5, etc. The only point of control Nintendo's had with them has been Smash 4 and Mario Sports Superstars, and Nintendo was merely publisher/rights holders, unless you explicitly consider Sora Ltd. and Camelot direct parts of Nintendo.
Honestly, it's kind of odd; Tri-Crescendo was essentially an audio creator for Tri-Ace and eventually got into actual gameplay development with Baten Kaitos (mobygames even specifies which employees belonged to which studio for that game). Could well just depend on who they get partnered with, and considering their first work on Tales was the PS3 version of the Symphonia remaster, I guess Bamco's kept them on call. Looking at Zestiria and Berseria, they seem to just be credited with the former as R&D Assistants, and System Programming and map modelling on the latter. But it's not always a good idea to just throw a different development studio at an existing series anyhow.

Also, you're missing out. I myself don't especially like it when JRPGs go the "pick a location on the map" route for overworlds (unless it's something like Shadow Hearts, where being set on Earth, the distance scale is factored, and occasionally the characters will remark how long it actually takes them to get around walking), but it's a good game, and there are other floating continents as well, if you're thinking that initial island is all there is.

Puzzle game in the guise of an RTS. Had a unit builder like many early 3D RTS games but all the missions were only ever designed to be won in one way.

Growing up I played a lot of G-Nome, which was a mech game set in the same universe as Dominion: Storm Over Gift 3. G-Nome even came with a trailer for it that younger me watched quite often.
Dominion was a total commercial flop though, failing to deliver on a large number of its technical promises. Fun fact: the Starcraft devs were so taken aback by the (faked) pre-release tech demos for Dominion that they overhauled their engine to compete. Starcraft ended up being a huge success as a result, while Dominion sold less than 15000 units in its first year.

You're right, people gave up on translating it a decade ago. It really is a Fallout clone, first area looks like a final boss dungeon. Ran without a hitch when I first installed it, but now it's acting up like a little bitch.
The music is fucking weird, it falls sort of between stock soundscape and some really quality stuff.

Yes, it's going to be a prequel/soft reboot.
Sadly the main writer died from cancer back 2009 and all that exists is an unfinished fragment of a novel called "Das Höllenmeer" which I don't think was ever translated.
It gives another strong hint as to what the Bionts really are

Maybe it's for the best if it won't considering the fate of most reboots plus what happened to Overload can't be a good sign for games of the 6D genre so maybe THQn got cold feet from that
Also here's a unusual one: a strategy based on a comicbook,a eurocomicbook at that;a bit bare bones, assraping difficult this side of Warcraft and clunky and good luck getting it to run on W10 but it's definitely not something one sees any day of the week.

black moon chronicles was excellent, the cinematic was thoroughly immersive with incredible music.
the style of the game was unique, somehow realistic fantasy.
I found it in a shop in the netherlands, was a german game. German games often weren't released outside of the country, less so beyond the continent, so a lot of excellently designed games were never heard of by most people.

Chronicles of Riddick is reminiscent of it, in terms of the scale of the factions within it.
Your main character had a personality, the friends and allies you made along the way had personalities, the factions had personalities and the story was awesome.
