I know you didn't want specific genres, but I'm an autist, and therefore I'm a huge fan of tRPGs, so in this case I would reccomend trying out Final Fantasy Tactics. This can be emulated on any PS1 emulator, so if you have a PC or a Phone you should be good. Any of the GBA fire emblems would be good for babby's first FE, and if you like that, try out Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn.

Something that I've played recently that I enjoyed was Startropics. It's for the NES, reminds me a lot of the late 80s, early to mid 90s zelda games.

I know it's not much a suggestion, but I find the first 2 SMT games for the SNES comfy as fuck, they play right into each other and they aren't too difficult (you can fuck up some stuff by not knowing things beforehand though). They have a rockin soundtrack too.

I highly recommend trying out A Hat in Time if you haven't already, OP. I was initially a detractor due to the Dreamcast-tier visuals (a bit of a graphics whore myself) but the game nearly instantly won me over with tight platforming, robust world design, incredible music, and a surprisingly satisfying progression system that rewarded exploration. It's also one of the most "feel good" games I've played in recent memory. Very cute and comfy to be sure. If you hate non-linear platformers though, I'd steer away.
