Berial has been giving me trouble with Nero on LDK difficulty. How do you deal with his heatwave attacks? Also, what exactly do you do to put him into his vulnerable state?

You should practice doing Shuffle to roll movement. Shuffle has a lot of invincibility frames on its startup frames and add up to follow up the roll to prolong it further.

Try using your DT activation to counter act heatwave attacks so that you inflict damage and have some invincibility frames upon activation also.

If you're confident, time some exact rolls to Berial's attacks to do table hoppers.

Don't exhaust all your DT for more damage if you can do some normal exceeds.

Cool, I’ll give those a try. I’m getting to the point where table hoppers and exceeds are becoming second nature, but he has killed me a few times with some heat wave spams. I usually only use DT for grabs or to get the last bit of damage in.

How do the best DMC players tend to grip their controller? I've been using my index finger and thumb together to hit face buttons, but I'm getting the impression that might not be enough.

Also, I had no idea how far people took DMC, although I guess I'm not surprised. It looks like so much fun, but at that level of commitment I might be better off learning to draw or taking up piano.

I'm going to play them again right when DMC5 comes out and hopefully when I'm done it will get cracked. Going to finally do a Vergil run of 3 and probably 4 too as well as maybe trying to beat DMD on 3.

Good luck fighting on Dante's run on LDK mode, there are some stages where you might get stun locked to death. You'd probably need the DT to be safe with armor and try doing jump to air releases.

I have a lot of trouble fighting against fausts while they are out of bounds, their attack sound sfx would be better for you to hear 'em coming towards you with fast attacks.

Anyone trying out serpentium's mod for DMC HD Collection on 3 and 4?

I like that 3 is now having a good trainer at a much better built-in UI and Variable editor than SuperTrainerV9 in 4.

Most players at high level use the claw grip with Dante because there are a lot of techniques that require you to have control over your movement while also being able to switch styles quickly (Star Rave, Wave Dashing, Guard Flying, etc). For this reason 90% of them use a PS4 controller (or a controller with a similar layout) or keyboard, also most of them have been playing for more than 5 years and most of them are japanese.

There's a workaround if you use an Xbone controller, put Trickster on LB, you won't be performing some advanced techniques but this will increase your mobility. There's also one thing that helped me improve my game and it's going back to a neutral position after each combo which means that after a combo I go back to Trickster, Rebellion, E&I. Using this I was able to build longer combos by stringing together smaller ones that end up on a neutral position. It's a bit of a crutch and it's only useful early on but it helped me a lot.

That kind of thing is likely so a newer player doesn't haphazardly buy enemy step for cheap and forget it exists thus never implanting it in their gameplay.

He was stated to be a "teenager" in DMC3, between 17-20, people speculate 18 on the manga and 19 on the game because it is around this time when Nero has to be conceived for the ages to "match", supported by DMC4SE. For DMC1, Kamija said on twitter that Dante was similar in age to Cobra so something around 26-30. In an interview around the release of DMC4, I think it was the producer who said Dante was in his late 30s approaching 40, so 37-40 and they also said that Nero was about the same age Dante was in DMC3, so if we assume Nero is 19, Dante has 38 in DMC4. DMC2 didn't matter because it was the last.

If Patty is 18 by DMCV, she's 8-9 in the anime, so around 10 years. The anime happens some time after the first game maybe 1-2 years but given the data above and Capcom's retcon, DMC2 has to happen shortly after the anime and now DMCV would put Dante's age at around 45.

There are a few ways of going about the fight, but yeah it's pretty much stunning him and getting hits in.

You can time it so when you gets to you, you turn on the light and he's stunned,

You can turn on all the lights which stuns him for the longest,

or if you stand in the light he will shoot a shadow ball at you this will turn off the light, but you can deflect it back at him, he can hit it back again but if you keep deflecting it, you'll get a good chunk of damage in on him when he messes up.

Harder modes just make the lights take more hits to turn on I'm pretty sure that's all that changes.

He is very much more delayed with his attacks than you expect, and playing royal guard means you lose your primary means of keeping up with the fight mid way through. Just use as much devil trigger on the first part as fast as you can and overhead the slugs until he comes back on screen, you'll get to the vergil half in no time.

DMC3's bosses didn't bother me as much as its regular enemies. The Seven Hells and the Abysses are fine, even impressive considering how much variety the devs managed to squeeze out of the "demon with a scythe" archetype. The Bloodgoyles are alright and chess pieces are interesting. But I hate the rest. I slightly prefer DMC3 to 4 overall, but I didn't find any of 4's enemies anywhere near as unenjoyable to fight as the Fallen, Soul Eaters or Arachne.

Make a unconscious effort to switch to Trickster after every combo, trickster should be your main style. If you notice, most high level Dante players use trickster a lot, that's because it keeps you on the move for positioning or evasion and it's your main tool for maintaining good flow in your combos. The goal before they even started working on DMC5 was "someone needed to be able to take one look at it and know it's quality" The RE engine is Capcom's newest baby after all, I'm sure they want to get as much out of it as they can.

But I would need to see the DMC5 designs in the graphical style of that Video before I would be able to say which is better or not.

Honestly I see allot of people going wow over how that looks, but I just see DMC4, only really glossy, the choreography of everything just seems like your average every day anime shit, rather then what I expect from Devil May Cry. We ain't the only ones apprehensive about the new art style, a lot of japanese players have mixed feelings about it, and like us, many of them thought it was a sequel to DmC at first, there was even a thread on 2ch shitting on the game for a good while. To me, this added a layer of unnecessary extra work and dev time to the game when it would've been much cheaper and quicker to continue using MT Framework. Just look at MHW, even with all the issues I have with that game I can't deny it looks stunning at times, helped mainly by solid art direction and I'm sure it's going to be one of those games that will remain visually appealing in years to come, much like DMC4.

So the graphical style is partly due to the input of higher-ups. Hopefully this doesn't damage the longevity of its visuals, although I'm not particularly optimistic. Kind of funny that two threads went up that ended up talking about Capcom's old and new visual styles. Although the older style is considered outdated, they still retain their appeal through being stylistic. I'm not sure if the current realism will have that same element to it. Years down the road, when realistic graphics are presumably even more advanced, games like REmake2 might not be remembered as fondly when people aren't overlooking how goofy the faces look.

Actually that old leaker was talking about V, he said he got his information from hear say from people who worked for Capcom at events and such. at the time of the leak we all saw the characters name was V so we all naturally assumed it was Vergil. Nobody even considered it could be a new character.

Still they have gone on twitter and said if their was enough demand for new characters they would make them as DLC, so even if Vergil isn't in the base game it's a given he will make it in down the line.

If that guy is vergil and it gives nero his DT, that would be a ways into the game to be the point where he is given a DT, something that was seen as a bridge in the story or otherwise just a power up; in DMC 1 it was just a way to give you a super to enhance your combos; in DMC2 it was always there I'm pretty sure; DMC3 made it a cinematic thing about getting to be closer to the power of your brother, but not quite there yet; in DMC4 nero is given a whole thing about resonating with the spirit of his father, but dante is given no such weirdness and just has it out of the gate.

Making the DT something at the very end of the game for nero would mean that the entire playstyle of nero is just gimped for the entire game and the DT would be made to be some extraordinary thing for nero even though he's more human than demon. thematically it also doesn't make sense because I don't care about nero, and I never have; I care about dante finding his brother again finally and settling the score for that one last time, getting that total closure on the situation and being able to move on with his life with a renewed purpose. I see your point about DT gimping Nero's character/play style. It would literally be the final moment of the game when he gets it so it doesn't throw out the balance and work you put in with Nero. Like Dante's shoot 'em up fight with Mundus at the end of DMC1. I also wouldn't mind seeing Dante/Vergil one last time, but it has also been done six times in 1 and 3. Release order is best for a first run, as the series gains complexity and depth as it goes on minus DMC 2 of course. Dante Must Die is unlockable, unfortunately for you. The games are still pretty tough for newcomers even on normal. 3 Special Edition has Gold and Yellow mode. DMC5 has the most missions of any DMC game and lets you play most of them with whoever you like, something new. 4 had Nero specific missions, as well as Dante missions. 5 will have a small number of them for one character only, likely the ones we've seen in trailers.

So far DMC5 looks totally fine, everyone loves the demo too, it doesnt look like or even play like a DmC2 at all from what a bunch of retards try to push about the game. I also have a hunch when a game is going to be fun and successful and this game is one of em.

It's not so much wanting to feel bad, but learning from the past. Out of the multiple fuckups, self-censorship and shit games capcom's done the past few years, this one game suddenly gets praised here like the second coming of christ (or seems like it due to how posts critical of the game were deleted in the past)? Can't blame anons for being skeptical of this game after rightfully calling out crapcom's shit over the years (and DmC). While it doesn't play like DmC, and won't have backtracking if the leaks are to be believed, I wouldn't be surprised if they started pulling other forms of bullshit, either subtly or blatantly (already dislike how a lot of the DLC announced is things that should be unlocked through gameplay rather than having to spend more).

They arguably already did. In comparison to previous games, the combat looks and feels completely janky. Inertia is gone. Combined with fuckhuge hitboxes it means it's extremely hard to be precise with your movements.

Also no guardflying. Which really fucking sucks since a lot of the enemies I've seen in gameplay videos are huge. All I could think of was that I want to fly around everywhere using them, but felt a deep pain in my heartte when I remembered.

I don't think DMC5 will be a horrible game. Nowhere near as bad as Reboot, for sure. But to me, it's not going to replace the other games. Which really sucks.

Honestly with how DMC5 seems to be turning out, I wholeheartedly believe that if they were able to finish DMC4 it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it is now. Especially Dante. Literally all they fucking took from DMC4 was Style Switching and Ecstasy. That's it. No Lucifer, no proper Pandora, no inertia (which is the best thing that's ever happened to action games), and steps BACKWARDS in turnspeed which reintroduces a problem from DMC3 making reversals inherently inaccurate, and implementing bullshit from the reboot like reduced gravity and extremely forgiving enemy step range.
