Is it worth trying?

Long time ago I played it when I was a kid. I really want to give it another shot. I have a vague memory of the game. My keen interest is it is a sandbox MMORPG. The problem is I'm really disillusioned with most MMOs lately. They get boring and repetitive.

We have a guild for it over at /vg/ I just haven't been active in it lately due to haven and hearth, we should have 3-4 other people still playing pretty much daily.

I don't make it here on /v/ because you get the same autist who hops IPs just to scream and cry that people are playing a game he doesn't like.

Yes, but only for the piloting. That's pretty much entirely disconnected from the ground game anyways.

honestly i wasn't impressed. based on what i played you just spam the same few quests over and over again to level up. it's really clunky in a way not even the original EQ was. the whole point is the community and stuff but at this point the pserver is basically played exclusively by people who played the game back in the day and already know the game inside and out.

Pre-NGE didn't even have that. It's a bunch of grinding till you can interact with the player economy.

I repeat that JtLS is excellent. Perfectly playable solo too with a bit of (fun) grinding (at least till the very end).

its mostly a roleplay simulator on the ground, but GCW exists and you can have fun in PVP and running through hoth with your groups. And of course its always fun with friends. JTL is really good and when you really get in the zone trying to stay alive during things in storm squadron such as 20 A-WING HITSQUAD its quite the rush. I'll be more active soon, come join us if you like, the more people playing the more active others are.

It was really good as an MMO because it tried to make you play almost like an NPC in this world. Like you could build a player town, have elections, you could setup your own store and sell goods you made etc. Most mmorpgs now are built on "how good are raids" and "how good is pvp" and that's it.

Aside from that unfortunately one slight to Galaxies is the combat is REALLY bad and nobody ever wants to explore the somewhat massive planets the game has.

Project pheonix had included playable chiss and even hutts, to which we responded by making a group of jewish hutts, its a shame it died.

It's a fine timesink. Pre-NGE is fun as fuck, even if it's repetitive towards the end. Just get a quick buff, become OP as all fuck, and grind missions until you can don composite armor and you've peaked for combat classes.
