I just finished this game and I am wondering what you guys think of it. Personally I think it had a bit of a weak start but as it went forwards it got better and better with every level, minus a few that were a bit too combat heavy for their sake as the combat in this game is servicable at best. It was still fun going into people's memories and correcting their mistakes by solving puzzles which I believe the game should have focused from the very start. I really like the overall plot and the ending of the game, it took me a while to realize that you've been dead all along and the enemies are just tortured souls of the crew members haunted by their own despair and regret that you are trying to free I like how hopefully the game ends despite everything

Wait, you've been dead all along? What's the implication for that?

Your power allows you to go back in time and save someone from death, the first person you test that on is you during the tutorial section, where you are shown how you got onto the ship, which should mean that you must have died to even "save" yourself from death

The captain at the end says that the dogs will go back home, but you yourself will not be able to

It's a shit game

Play "The Thing" the PC game, it's fairly good. Just remember this:

They might all be infected to plot to take you down.

Fuck you're right, I got a brainfart and forgot about that part.

I'll have to play that one too, I really liked The Thing.

>when you turn the heat back on and you can see the ice slowly melting off the walls

I've never seen a game capture freezing to death so well or how fucking comfy coming in from the cold feels. Shame the performance is dogshit.

I tried this and got bored pretty fast

A shame that the heat mechanics were so underdeveloped in the end. They're the sole reason why I felt that the start of the game was lackluster. It feels like the devs always have control over how much healh you have due to the fact that there are no other ways of gathering heat than going to a heat source and warming yourself up, which often means that there will be a heat source before every battle so that you are not disadvantaged against the enemies so that you cannot beat the game. Honestly I feel that the mechanics could have stayed as they are if the game was more open ended instead of linear. Imagine an open ended Cryostasis.

>You explore the ship by your own having to go into people memories to unlock certain locations

>You have to get the power back running to certain portions of the ship so that you won't freeze to death.

>The only things keeping you warm are collectable matches that are incredibly sparse

>The cold areas are dangerous and filled with monsters but become safer and comfy after you warm them up

>Going out of the ship unprepared i suicide

>You have to find the souls of the people you need to help yourself

>Sometimes you cannot solve a puzzle if you don't save someone else a few areas back so you have to figure it out on your own and think about it logicaly.

>You have far less ammo, but there are hazards in the environment that allow you to warm up the area and kill monsters this way

>There are people that you don't need to save but can if you go out for 100% completion.

>Saving them all gives you a better ending.

Just fucking imagine, it would be amazing.

The thing about Cryostasis is that it's one of those really ambitious slavshit games made by people working beyond their skill level. If the game struggles so hard with rendering a couple corridors and maybe one or two enemies at a time (my playthrough's FPS was regularly in the single digits), imagine how much worse a nonlinear Cryostasis would run.

Shame Cryostasis tanked and the devs were reduced to making mobileshit before their studio closed. I'd really love to see them try them try something ambitious again.

There is a movie from early 2000s with the same premise, but the person helping the dead is alive. I can't remember the name. In the end, a demon is revealed to be the one collecting the souls of the dead as a quota to take to hell, and the main character, the only survivor, is helpless to stop the demon from repeating the same acts on another crew from another ship. Was this game based on that movie?

2991dc  No.16118869

>wondering what you guys think of it.

Pretentious slav shit. Poor corridor level design and really bad weapon design that doesn't actually have any accuracy penalty, all shots always hit dead center because they forgot to include any bullet spread so it's not hard. The story goes full retard 2deep4u by the end of the game and it just becomes a joke. Last time I played was a few years ago, fully patched version and on the level where you first exit the ship the entire atmosphere fell apart because the game put me in noclip randomly until I hit the next loading trigger, unable to interact with any other map elements, AI turned off. Basically ruined one of the coolest sequences because it's shitty eurojank slavcore.

No interest in replaying it again, it won't have any interesting for a second run through. Just the same tedious fights, depth-less combat and levels that are just corridors.

The game has a happy ending so I doubt it

The story might make a little more sense the second time around and you might notice some of the weirder stuff people don't talk about. For example, once I randomly zoomed in with my sighs and glimpsed a dog staring at me from behind a corner. It vanished when I pulled away my sights and I never saw it again.

Neat ideas mediocre execution

Needs a dual Nvidia GPU setup (one for rendering one for PhysX) to enjoy the full experience with acceptable framerates.

You can disable it off course but it really takes away from the experience .

Invidious embed. Click thumbnail to play.

I played without PhysX and it's still neat, you'll just miss out on shit like the needlessly detailed water and spark simulation.

I don't believe you, I was told the same lies about Stalker back in 2007.

>>16119269

Never played it on an Nvidia card, I imagine it runs better but the game has no support for multiple cores so I imagine it doesn't even run better. That's one of the biggest failures of the games really, the optimization is horrendous.

kys slavaboo.

>I don't believe you, I was told the same lies about Stalker back in 2007.

Nigger I stared that thing in the eye for several seconds. It's a very linear game and I remember what the spot looked like, so if I sat through a LP or kept track of level numbers I could tell you where it was.

Be my guest. What would make something like that so impressive anyway?

Feels like Bioshock had similar effects two years earlier and without needing PhysX, while running much better.

8ba41f  No.16134259

I've played this some time ago, and it felt like a mix of Condemned and Penumbra. Not a bad concept, if it wasn't for the awful level design and sense of progression, and really bad combat mechanics.

I can vouch for recommending The Thing instead, it's much better. Just remember to get thirteenAG's patch if playing the PC version, it improves support for modern systems, adds proper widescreen and save state support.

bb180e  No.16134276

can remember it being some walking simulator with fuck all to do, isnt it just shovelware? or is it an actual game?
