Stopped playing a few months ago, but system was like this:
>leveling is so fast you can get to max in a week on a normalfag time schedule and in a weekend if you really want to
>frequent leveling events to make it even faster
>buddy system that throws more free exp your way
>level 65, you get your shit-tier lategame eq thrown at you for free, still outclasses everything from leveling
>you can now do a few of the lategame dungeons
>these drop materials you need for enchanting, these are non-tradeable
>enchant gear
>upgrade to next tier
>better dungeons available
>gear now collects exp you get from dungeons
>exp vastly increases chances of success when enchanting
>max exp is 100% at this level
>enchant, upgrade, see above
>enchant a bit, max success now lower even with exp
>if you fail, gear doesn't break, but the shit you used to enchant is gone (not exp tho)
>+3% chance next time, stacks to 100%
>repeat some more. Side costs in gold rise by a lot now for enchanting
that's pretty much it.

There was a time when your gear actually mattered in leveling, where rewards from it were good.
Then the vanguard exp and other exp came, so you'd have access to better armor 10 minutes after getting a set and they made these soulsomething weapons that outclass anything previously in the game, save for endgame content, meaning you just breeze through shit.
