I wanna make FUN puzzle games for PC and Android and sell them on Steam(and still make money). Is this still viable in the year 2019 or is the gravy train over? I don't want micro transactions or any annoying methods, but I still want money and fun gameplay.

Steam is so saturated that indie devs find more success on Switch than there. This isn't 2011 anymore, indie games haven't been the hot New thing for almost a decade now.

I think anime Zuma like game with a PvP mode like Tetris/Puzzle Bubble/others that can be played online would do ok on Steam.

The question with every product you have to ask yourself is: why would anyone want to pay money for this? In particular, with puzzle games there is a million of them out there for free (both literally free and (((free)))). You will need a really good reason to convince people to pay for the umpteenth clone of Bubble Bobble. I'm not saying it cannot be done, but when you have to compete with Frozen Bubble for free you'll have a hard time.

On the other hand, puzzle games are cheap to produce, so you should require fewer sales to break even. So you might as well give it a shot. Good luck, anon. And even if it doesn't make you rich, you will have something to put on your resume and a fun game to share with people.

If you want to suceed as an indie developer, you need to get the word of your product out. Unless you're sucking off journos, you will need to accomplish it by word of mouth, but for word of mouth to work, your game needs to be interesting enough for people to talk about it. Simple puzzle games are not something a person would gush about to his friend.

The last one that was worth a shit was Matthew Brown with Hexcells/Crosscells. The market is certainly not saturated with good puzzle games.

The puzzle game market is extremely over-saturated with games, especially on mobile. That said most of these are extremely derivative, or just low quality shit existing to leech money or ad-time.

>>16099954 is onto something, if you manage to breakthrough on the Switch(or consoles in general) and make a name on there, bringing it over to PC and phones later on will let you get the required momentum to stand out from the crowd. The problem is actually becoming a certified dev.
