…only to disappoint later?

A while ago I posted a thread about Class of Heroes, saying it is a great game. And it seemed so…at the beginning, while I was taken in by its great character and party creation system. But over time, the annoying dungeon crawling, tedious inventory management, simplistic fights, low quality sound effects, bland environments and luck based missions started to be a pain in the ass.

What are your examples?

Morrowind, but reverse.

Iconoclast and Time spinners.

Gameplay and visualwise they are both amazing, but fall apart aaas you go on. Particularly, with Iconoclasts the once likable characters all become cunts towards the end.

Sunless Sea. The ambience is amazing, the text and all. But once you realize nothing can really hurt you it becomes repetitive and boring.

Rebel Galaxy. I do actually like it, but the game is pretty barebones despite looking amazing.

It got a remake on the switch for it's anniversary and the remake fixed a lot of the game's problems.

I don't know if I'd really call it a good impression but the first hourish of The Evil Within is not even remotely like the rest of the game.

Oblivion. Going from the incredible game that was Morrowind, especially following a three year wait, I don't think I've had my heart crushed by anything so swiftly in my life.

>hype and optimism

>playing with OMG PHYSICS!!! in the prison

>noticing how consoled down the HUD is

>the entire UI from inventory, to the map, to everything else

>boundless excitement going from the prison, and into the open world

>level scaling enemies

>bland copypaste areas

>incredibly shallow dialogue

>no more specific armor pieces, now everything is an equippable jumpsuit

>can only stomach 20 hours of this

>faith and optimism, gone

Really? I was hooked by Morrowind from the get-go. Granted, I never played an MMO or anything until 2004, so I had no real comparative basis, but the freedom that Morrowind gave me, hooked me deep.

>Sunless Sea

Absolutely this - it's a genuinely unique experience that I found really fun for a good while, but once you've played through enough of it you figure out the formulas and it just becomes a tedious grind of the exact same stuff while you wait on the drip feed of advancing storylines. You need to go to a certain port to pick up an item to buy an item that's one of the three items you need to advance this girl's story? Well we passed by there 15 minutes ago and it'll take an hour to finish up this loop and get back, hopefully I won't lose the 50/50 dice roll once I'm there!

God forbid you do mange to die. They try to hype up this "changing Unterzee" idea every time you die and start a new captain, but the map stays 80ish percent the same, and the real punishment is that all of your storylines are reset. Sure, you've got the chance to make a few different choices now, but have fun going through the hours of completely unchanged grind in order to make them, after being made poor, alone, and sailing a piece of junk. I still recommend the game to people, but tell them to play it for an hour to understand the starting ship, then look up how to edit your save file and give yourself the bigger, faster, and stronger merchant ship.
