Using glitches doesn't constitute the user as cheating since abusing the game through unintended manipulation of the code within the framework that the devs gave the player is not equal to the player using out of gameplay means to alter the state of the game.

It'd be a waste of time even if they weren't. Games are for playing, not watching. Pannenkoek-tier 'tism is interesting to watch, but not because he's playing a video game. It's interesting because he takes a system that I thought I was familiar with, and picks it apart to find loopholes, and to show things in it that shouldn't even be possible but which somehow are.

Regular old speedrunning - with or without glitches - just makes no sense to me. In the time it takes to watch somebody else sprint through a game in the most efficient way possible, you could get a decent way into the game yourself, while actually playing it.

Just like cheat codes and console commands. Is it a valid any% speedrun to just put in a code to immediately put you as close to the end of the game as you can get, and then godmode your way through whatever's left? No external devices or programs necessary - everything you need is already right there in the game. Using glitches to get ahead is cheating. The only difference between a cheat code and a glitch is that one was put into the game intentionally and the other was not. Neither of them are part of how a proper playthrough of the game is intended to play out. Cheat codes get left in the finished game because it's not necessary or worthwhile to remove them, and glitches get left in the finished game because the developers didn't know about them/ran out of time/didn't know how to fix them. Those glitches would have been removed if possible, so it makes no sense to act like they're a valid part of the game.

Do you know how the Butterfly stroke came about in swimming? It's because the rules for Breastroke were vague enough for swimmers to come up with Fly-like strokes, obliterating the original Breastroke times and necessitating creating an entirely new race for the Butterfly.
