What are the game genres or series/trends that are currently six feet under and you'd like to see being explored again by non poz'd devs?
Currently brainstorming some /agdg/ material, would love to know if there's some very specific niche or general trend that is currently dead and will stay so for a long time.
Lemme give you a couple of examples:
>sportsball role playing game (not strictly RPGs, think of Mario Tennis for the GBC or, for the true patricians, Ultimate Soccer Manager '98)
>movement based shooters (rip Tribes)
>stealth based games that don't require CQC and QTEs for takedowns
>FPS with heavy RPG elements

Isnt titanfall 2 a movement shooter? Also I'm curious if we hit a ceiling in terms of game genres. Like are there any new genres we can even create? I'm craving something new I want to experience something I've never experienced again.

Technically, yes. But it's not as curayzee as it can get.
>Like are there any new genres we can even create?
Sure. Some guy in an older thread made a joke about making a game about plugging shit into sockets and it spiraled into anons coming up with a puzzle game / walking sim / physics and resource management game.

RTS is barely living because it's unintentional offshoot MOBA/ARTS became more popular.
Though re-releases of Age of Empires 2/Mythology and Rise of Nation show that there is still interest in it. A new evolution/refinement of RTS is needed to keep it alive. Surprised that more indie devs haven't tried to do it.

well it depends on what you want to call a point and click
I say that because the DS and 3ds actually had a few, maybe.
The thing about them was for whatever reason each of the modern ds adventure games was lacking at least one typical aspect of point n clicks. Ace attorney series, has light point and click elements and was an attempt to resuscitate the adventure game genre. Layton series goes much heavier, but rather than the typical point and click formula it just has you solve self contained puzzles. Zero escape has you solve escape rooms in the most authentic point and click style, and in between those rooms you get a vn or in the last game, lengthy animated cutscenes.
Lastly, there's Danganronpa, which has first person movement with the control stick combined with point and clicking in rooms amd trials, but like Layton it doesn't follow the formula.

Both of these genres were big during the Arcade era and got some representation on early consoles, but it seems that by the 7th gen these genres were all but dead. There's been maybe a handful of notable titles in the rail shooter genre in the last 15 fucking years.
You'd think that the linearity of these games would appeal to modern gamedevs and normalfags, so I don't really understand why it's dead. I guess the gameplay is so far forgotten that no one even thinks to attempt such a game.
