What went so fucking wrong with this game? I tried getting back to it yesterday, but kept getting my ass handled by premium weapon users. It's literally impossible to compete if you stick with PEN stuff. It's really a shame because some of the new maps looked good, even if most people choose to stick to ST-2 as usual.

I looked around a little and found a private server called s4max, I'm downloading it now as I'm writing. Apparently more balanced and with the old UI back from the 2009 era, maybe I'll find the game I cherished so much at the time.

i remember it being fun in the closed beta. when the servers opened up, latency tanked and the game was invaded by hues. i never touched it again after that, looks like i avoided a bunch of p2w nonsense.

Great choice, OP. If there are any people trying to shill you the server going by the name "Remnants" STAY FUCKING AWAY from it. They put some edgy music in the room selection screen, "revamped" the HUD and are planning to re-include game breaking stats. S4max does not have a working Chaser mode or some of the new (retarded and broken) weapons but at least it's the way S4 was meant to be played before it went full p2w/casual bullshit.

Haven't played it since they buffed the shit out of railgun for some reason but iirc there are caps you can buy with pen that give you premium items. It's still rng bullshit but you can get it eventually.

So I've been playing on s4max for 2 hours straight and despite the lack of people it's really fun. At least everyone is equal and the only thing that matters is your skill. I still have to use the CS however lmao.

It is small indeed and most of the lobbies are melee only/station 2. But recently thanks to half-chan I've been able to play really good matches against some people who played the open beta ten years ago.

I don't know about any other private server and didn't bother to check after finding S4 max.
