Okay, I know how to do this with a PC, and I tried googling it, and found that search algorithms are too specific to search a concept, but there's no way nobody else hasn't thought of this.

Is there a way to use a Raspberry Pi (or similar cheap as shit SBC) to run a network tunnel, specifically for consoles like the Xbox 360?

I'm plotting to get my sister's kids an Xbox 360 and a few multiplayer games, and I want to be able to play with them, but at the same time I want to keep them off the internet as much as I can.

The newest game system they have to play on is a bunch of Goodwill DS Lites my brother got them, and that just ain't right. I seek to rectify this

I also don't want to pay for Xbox Live, anon.

I also doubt my sister and brother in law want them exposed to Xbox Live players.

sage for double post

So you want openvpn?

1ae187  No.16050967

>>16050949

No, I want a LAN over WAN. A VPN does not accomplish this.

968f16  No.16050976

>>16050967

yes it does. I've set up a L2 VPN for my friends to play shit via LAN. works with the few games we've tried.

too bad nobody wants to play anything anymore ;_;

946d4e  No.16050977

Just play PC games

Oh shit, you got a link on instructions? I'm not a programmer, but I can edit an ini file fine.

I have a pptp setup on a dedicated VPS, because it's simpler for windowsfags to connect to it. since you're using xboxes you probably need a machine in the middle. openvpn may be a better choice for this

so get a machine where anyone can connect to. it doesn't have to be a VPS, just make sure anyone can reach it. next set up those RPIs or whatever to initiate the tunnel between them. then set your xboxes network settings to use the RPIs as the default. also make sure the VPN tunnel forwards broadcast packets, because that's important for LAN games.

so no… no specific instructions for this, sorry

You want a VLAN.

968f16  No.16051039

>>16051034

that's not what a vlan is

e3ac91  No.16051156

>>16050967

Isn't that basically what a vpn is, you're just connecting computers together over the internet and telling them it's a local network. I remember I'd use hamachi all the time to play LAN games over the internet back in the day.

I figured having a client application running on a basic little SBC, set up to take RJ45 from the Xbox, and connect to WAN via wifi. From there it'd probably connect to a PC at my place acting as a server for my own Xbox 360

So you want an openvpn tap device

c7920d  No.16051310

Just RGH/JTAG it and set up Aurora (custom dash). It has system link tunneling built-in, no need for external hardware. Plus you get the benefit of using any HDD, free games, better UI, and an unlocked OG Xbox emulator.

Look up a tutorial online, it's different depending on the model. It's not an easy install so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing. Though there's services out there that will do it for you if you wanted to pay for it.

95fdb9  No.16052066

>>16052001

Yeah it's a virtual ethernet adapter opposed to a point-to-point IP link and it should enable you to emulate a LAN.

If you can find the way the Xbox connects to the regular net you could also try and just bridge the whole LANs and simply point to your chosen box.

In either case you probably need a method to get each others IPs since residental connections change them semi regularly

Its signal strength is piss poor if you don't HW mod a real antenna in, but ultimately you can't fix the pathetic throughput in any way

Consider getting an Asus Tinker Board for much better network performance and a standard antenna connector so that you can easily install a real antenna on it

That's exactly what a VPN is. Virtual Private Network.

VPN providers you use for torrents are misleading as it's more of a proxy.

Mhm. Nowadays VPNs are being used as a lazy and convenient way to proxy all outbound networking connections, to the point that people don't realize that VPNs aren't just proxies. In reality, VPN's don't need to operate as proxies at all.
