Yup. Used to be, people used Youtube because it fed their narcissim or because they had something they wanted to say or were just shitting out a remix they found funny. Once ad sharing came along, it became an occupation and people started to game the algorithms for clicks. You used to get mocked called out for e-begging if you tried to monetize your videos. Now, it's full on crisis mode "ad-pocalypse" when they can't e-beg and have taken to live endorsements of private advertising deals and begging/locking content for patreon subscribers.

The best thing Google could do would be to just take away all advertising revenue/ban patreon shilling and let the site burn. "Content Creators" would eventually leave because they couldn't make easy money anymore, and their casual audiences would flee along with them. With the masses vacant from the site, advertisers wouldn't really give as much of a shit about the platform and would allow people to speak their minds honestly again without worry of people associating their brands with that opinion on a low-impact site. Traffic would be down substantially as well, easing the financial burden on Google so they're not so up their own asses about losing viewership/ads to people who say unpopular things. Or - because it's not making as much money and is now vulnerable to competition - they'll just cut the site loose altogether and either transform it directly into a Hulu competitor nobody will use like they want - or sell it off potentially to someone who gives a shit.

Either way, either the site burns or returns to a state closer to what it was originally. Either would be preferable.
