Can't tell if this is bait or not. Honest response then.
I'd recommend finishing up the Santa Monica portion of the game, the main plot, subquests, etc. It doesn't take long to finish Santa Monica, and enough of the stuff most fans of the game find interesting happens there that I feel like its a good representation of the rest of the game as a whole. If you still don't like the game after Santa Monica, drop it. Your not going to like the rest of it.
Which brings us to you not liking it: Its totally fine. Sometimes a game just doesn't click. Your not the first person I've seen who doesn't like Bloodlines. I hope you at least got to understand why other folks like the game at least: The plot, the themes, the mechanics, the writing, and the characters. Theirs value to be gained in understanding what other people like, even if you don't like it yourself. I feel the same way about Deus Ex. I can understand why other folks like it, but I can't fucking STAND it.

VTMB is bland as fuck, and it's one of those games that /v/ loves to put up on a pedestal like it's good. But it was developed by a company who were notorious for buggy releases, late releases, and failing to deliver on ANYTHING. And they blamed the Source engine for all the game's problems, yet they never shipped a product that wasn't a fucking mess.

What about it feels this way? I never got the impression the vampires or the drama was cliche, or forced, or anything like that. I suppose history hasn't been kind to oh-so-enlightened characters like Beckett, but almost every cast member is a believable individual with motivations and goals which make sense given his situation.
Also, you never told us what kind of vampire you're playing - Malkavian and Nosferatu are bad ideas for first playthroughs, and you mentioned your character being ugly which makes me think you picked Nosferatu.

No. The grenade is put in a position where it's lethal damage can kill the Werewolf in time which is inside his throat. Even then the stats of an Elder vampire can realistically pull it off while someone like Nines needs to have the initiative or take the Werewolf by surprise and the Werewolf to then proceed to demonstrate a gag reflex. All within about 1 turn in tabletop time.

Close enough. Once upon a time. A literal dumb faggot frog (yes, tricked a vampire into being his ingredient for ritual which will turn mages into vampires. Tricked his fellow housemates that this will grant them immortality they seek, but didn't tell them they would become vampires and lose magic (which the mage lives for) forever. Then the faggot forced blood bond (blood-induced mindbreak) onto his fellows when the cat is out and then rewrites vampire history saying "WE WUZ VAMPIRES AND SHIT NIGGAS I SWEAR, WE DIDN'T STEAL VAMPIRISM FROM ANOTHER SOMEHOW MISSING VAMPIRE WE SWEAR" to avoid getting their asses kicked by other vampires and the vampire society bought that shit because the faggot and his assmates kill all witnesses and everyone who know the true story.

2. Gangrel (Gargoyle ingrediants)
3. Nosferatu (Gargoyle ingrediants, and even their fucking NEONATES know it. Because their info brokers.)
4. Tzimisce (The guys that the Tremere stole vampirism from).
5. Salubri (These Tien-Shin-Han looking motherfuckers almost don't exist anymore, because the Tremere ate their fucking antidelviuan and then framed the rest of the clan so badly that the Camarilla wiped em out. The ones that are left have pretty much all thrown in with the Sabbat to get revenge.)
6. Asamites (The tremere put a blood curse on their whole clan, that they only recently got rid of it after like 600 fucking years.)
7. The Order of Hermes (The original mages that the Tremere were a part of, and betrayed. The Tremere and the Order still regularly get into wars with one another.)
So yah. Everyone who knows anything know the Tremere are bullshit dangerous. Their are four primary reasons they haven't been wiped out.
1. They are useful to the Camarilla, so the Camarilla keep them around to help. And shield them from threats in return. You rarely see Tremere Princes, but frequently see Tremere Sherrifs, Seneschals, Deputies, Keepers of Elysium, even Scourges. Because everyone wants a Warlock working for them.
2. Thaumaturgy is the most flexible and bullshit overpowered vampire discipline in the entire game. And the Tremere have near exclusive access to it.
3.They are one of the most unified groups in the entire setting. They literally remotely kill all their traitors via blood magic, and bloodbond those loyal to them to make them even more loyal.
4. They have a fucking active Antideluvian leading their clan.

Only thing for sure about gook shopkeeper is that you can't feed on him in game. So he's classified as non-mortal. If I had to guess, I'd wager he's just a Kuei Jin.

There is a total of 6 non-Sabbat Salubri left, iirc. They have the whole "childe diablerizes sire" thing going on, so they never increase their numbers out of fear of attracting attention.

Source? Because even an average mage will easily wipe the floor with a powerful vampire.

If your playing a Tremere, you should/need to have contingency plans in place to deal with Order of Hermes mages. Especially in the modern nights. Thankfully, mage aren't as hard to deal with as people like to pretend.

Damn, I kinda missed that tidbit of information, thanks.

Well, it's a bit hard to compete with a guy who can think you out of existence.

I don't see how this is any different than the WH40k threads we have. We're discussing the lore of a universe used for the setting of a video game.

Hermetic magic normally requires a sympathetic link to the target of the spell. Part of their body (like hair or blood), their true name, an accurate picture of them (Physical or mental), their true birthday, etc. The more links you have, the more likely the spell is to succeed. Assuming a human or vampire can deny the hermetic mage these things, then the Mage has to resort to things like Traps, conjured hazards (like fire), death rays, Summons, etc. Which are still dangerous, but can be avoided or survived by a competent human or vampire. Something as specific as a teleportation spell should require at least one sympathetic link to the target, so if you want to teleport a vampire to the other side of the world (where the sun is up to kill them), then you need to have done a ton of prepwork before hand. And a competent vampire in particular is probably going to notice your attempts to gather links to him, because he's already paying attention for that kind of stuff due to the Jyhad.
Assuming the human or vampire stay out of sight and conceal their identity (oh hey, Masquerade turns out to be a good idea yet again, whadya know), hermetic mages shouldn't be able to do this to them. If the mechanics of Mage allow them to ignore stuff like the principles of linking, then thats….. Really, REALLY bad crunch. Player characters shouldn't be able to do stuff that powerful without significant time and effort. If you can just wish away the BBEG in your mage campaign, how is that even a fucking game at that point? Now, you could probably make an entire campaign (and a good one at that) about gathering spell components and sympathetic principles to work a powerful "cease to exist" spell and eliminate a BBEG thats too strong to confront normally, but the BBEG is gonna be hampering the mage players the whole way through.

>Nobody plays Wraith. It is the kind of game where the lore and settings are top-tier, but finding a table and a competent enough GM to run/play this shit needs a divine intervention.
Yeah, that's probably right. The shadow system makes a nasty barrier of entry since it's pretty much built around players NTR'ing each other. It probably didn't help that it was the only WOD game that didn't suck up to any subculture at a time WW was rallying goths and furries.
Are you into Kult, anon?

Realistically hunters with access to modern weapons should be a lot more powerful. Thermite, phosphorous, explosives, long range weapons. Add true faith and a bit of vamp juice to the mix an van helsing looks like a rank amateur.

Not sure why I am replying in a sinking thread, but the answer is no. I like modern fantasy adventures (a dash of gothic is also nice) and WoD can provide that, but I am not into anything "deeper" than that. The crowd of emo-goths and furfags with a psycho-sociopathic streaks are into those though.

Give Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption a try. It might be more up your alley. It's considerably more classically gothic, at least up until you're at the last act and in the Final Nights in modern L.A.
