>games that had the potential to be good

>Fallout 76

Fallout 76 never had the potential to be good. It was fucked from the start, because Bethesda was making it. You might think, in a universe of infinite possibilities - the stars could align just right, and the fates interceed, and a miracle would happen… but no. Even in a universe of infinite possibilities, there is no actual possibility of Bethesda not fucking up FO76.

At this point, we really would have been better off if Masthead/Interplay got winning the lottery lucky and were legally awarded their right to make Fallout Online and rushed out the half-baked alpha to keep from losing the contract again.

Obvious answer would be Breath of the Wild. Bad decision was everything. breakable weapons, scattered dungeons instead of just a few and cohesively designed dungeons, over-abundant collectables, lack of a variety of enemies and bosses, lack of zelda music and so on and so for. The biggest reason for that was probably caused by being pushed as an early switch game when it was a port of a wii u game. If it had another year or less, it could have fine tuned a lot of the elements that were missing in Breath of the Wild to make it a Zelda game.

Its current state just feels like building blocks instead of a complete sandbox experience like they promised. Everything felt half-assed and poor execution on almost every aspect of the game. I think the next game using the same engine will learn from the mistakes of Breath of the Wild. At least, I hope they do.

BOTW is such a good game because it isn't just another crappy Zelda game. It does a good job of making you value loot (breakable weapons) offers good challenges in the shrines and has a likeable cast as far as Nintendo games go. It's biggest flaws are it's still tied to Zelda so you have to have awful dungeons instead of just making it an exploitable world where you're prepping to siege Ganon.

While you're right about the engine's being wonky and out of date, much of it was because Bethesda's programmers are pajeet-tier. Bethesda's Havok implementation was probably one of the worst development jobs ever made, and you gotta remember that the guy who did characters animations since Oblivion failed his animation classes and was hired only because he's friends with Dwarf Howard.

This is bait, but I'm going to respond anyhow.

>BOTW is such a good game

It's not

>because it isn't just another crappy Zelda game.

No, it's just a crappy paint-by-numbers open world game similar to what you'd expect out of Ubisoft but with a Zelda skin and no lootboxes.

>It does a good job of making you value loot (breakable weapons)

No, it makes you avoid using power weapons because you don't want to waste them - clogging your inventory while you fuck around with shit weapons expecting a tough enemy or scenario around the corner that never comes. If they wanted to make you value weapons, then give the player some means by which to maintenance them and keep them in top form, with the potential to break permanently if you neglect them.

>offers good challenges in the shrines

No, it doesn't - because there is no structure to the game. Since you can go in any direction after leaving the central starting area - every area has to be designed as if it were perpetually stuck in the second level. Difficulty and puzzles do not scale, and pretty much all of your base abilities are unlocked right from the start before you leave the tutorial area. So there is no mastery progression or new trick to learn by combining proficiency of old abilities with experimentation of new abilities.

>and has a likeable cast as far as Nintendo games go.

I didn't give a fuck about a single one. Giving them voices and "emotional" lenghty non-interactive cutscenes only made me care less somehow.

>It's biggest flaws are it's still tied to Zelda

It's a flaw, but not it's biggest.

>prepping to siege Ganon.

You don't need to prep for siege Ganon. You can go and beat him pretty much right from the outset, which is really the only challenge the game has to offer, and gearing yourself up beforehand basically just gives you the ability to skip the entire area and drop right into Ganon's boss room.

Also, the hardest part of Ganon was figuring out he was invincible until having his shot reflected back at him, since I never actually needed to use that particular move once in the entire game beyond the tutorial where it told me it existed. So even once I figured it out, I was completely inexperienced with the timing necessary for using it.

That is fucking terrible design.

No, then you would have a generic zelda game and those things are awful. Same shitty set up where you get 1 weapon to use for 1 dungeon and you're done until the final dungeon makes you use it in 2 rooms. I've played that, many times over.

If you want that just go play Darkdsiders. It's the best Zelda game ever made. It took Nintendo's stale formula and updated it.

>>16027161

>The games problem is I don't use my resources so the game is at fault for giving me them.

It was never hard to get good weapons, you just refuse to do them.

>There's no pacing or harder areas

You're wrong on both fronts. Some areas need items or equipment to explore. You bleed out other wise so there's your mastery coming in. If you want to properly explore a cold area you need cold items. Enemies in different areas do different amounts of damage. You need additional stamina to get to some areas.

>It was never hard to get good weapons

It's a silly gimmick anon, the whole "your weapon will break after a few hits despite being a fucking well made sword" was a shit idea. Imagine that in real life, your sword just breaks after 10 hits. They needed something else to deal damage really, a low power but up-gradable weapon along side breakable weapons would've been much better, that way you don't find something cool and then get fucked.

Black Metal is music for the elite and you do not understand it. None of you understand the real Satanism. You ridiculous little kids. Our worldview is based on Wotanic Hitlerism, on a personal level satanic individualism, collective level Hitleric Fascism. Without an understanding of theoretical occultism, it is useless to dream of understanding the Wotanic worldview. None of you can understand Wotanism, for you are all intellectually earthworms. You can not reach the elite level of Satanism, so why even dream about it. Satanism and Black Metal are for the elite. For real misanthropists.

Stop lying to yourself. It was never a good game. It didn't have any chance.

Just stop.

Thanks.

Literally two seconds on wikipedia even would have told you that the game was intended to be a multiplat from the start and had the levels chopped into tiny chunks and the menus dumbed down specifically to accommodate the limitations of the xbox. >Fans complain about being forced to slog through an uninspiring story.

>Fans want to explore and gather things

>Fans want multiplayer

<Make a game with minimal to no story

<Make a game based on pure exploration and gathering things

<Make it multiplayer

Honestly, what did you all expect?
