I can't remember which thread, but the sales figures for Madden were posted and over the past 5 years 1st week sales have been cut in more than half, resulting in less than a million sold. 1. Vidya is not dying, good or even great vidya pops up all the time, the problem is, you are comparing retrospectively all the vidya that has came up to this point that you know is good, to your knowledge about current good vidya coming out, and no shit one wouldn't match up to the other.
2. Successful B-AA studios have grown into AA-AAA ones, and the niche hasn't been filled yet, because before those studios were generally been brand backed and now it's only through starting from scratch (or getting crowdfunded) that such studio can be formed.
3. The only time indies were bad is somewhere between 2000-2010, before that it was MSDOS indie paradise, after that there appeared a market vacuum space (see point 2.) and robust engines have started popping up, UE3-4, Unity, CryEngine 2+, Ren'Py and the older ones have grown to maturity like Gamemaker, RpgMaker and all of those textadventure ones, except the latter ones probably just getting noticed due to the thing I'm talking about. No one cares about serious engine tho.
4. The problem is not the developers approach, it's the corporate economic based approach. Obviously, that would be ridiculously hard to change if not impossible, depending on ones political views, but, if you don't see the solution to that problem, do the task that is up to your size, like actually doing vidya research, playing said vidya and then publishing your findings to friends and communities you are a part of, instead of whining how fucking hopeless your situation is, you fucking mongoloid.

Everyone's always talking about how the games industry has gotten exponentially worse and more hopeless over the years, but I'm not really so sure. I mean, yeah, you can point to classic masterpieces that blow certain modern games out of the water and its easy to pick out the technical inferiority and jeweyness of recent games made by hacks for a quick buck, but have you SEEN how awful some of the games from even the NES era were? The NES library is plagued with shitty franchise tie-in shovelware and barely functional messes. Part of the reason games were even so hard back then was because they wanted to artificially pad out the length, so you'd think you were getting your money's worth, and buy more.
That's not to say there weren't really great games back then, but they were still treasure in an ocean of trash, and in that regard, things haven't really changed. For every dozen unity asset, mirotransaction ridden, preachy bugfest, there's a decent game you can personally enjoy, and I think that speaks to how big and accessible the industry has become.
I think a lot of anons around here tend to have fun bashing on/laughing at shitty and/or sjw-ey games (and I get it), but the side effect of that kind of fun is that it makes you focus on and grow sensitive to what you perceive to be deplorable, and ignore what you originally enjoyed about games. After a while, you'll become cynical and disenfranchised, unable to have fun with any games, and hypersensitive to specific visual/design/story elements that will let you write it off as shit. If you wanna enjoy games again, and stop re-playing the same ones over and over, you're going to have to understand that lots of games will have shitty design elements and/or stuff you don't like; if you can learn to have fun with them anyway, like you did when you were a kid, you'll enjoy this hobby more (or any hobby, really).
