>replacing machinima

You mean the channel or the medium? Because in case of the latter it's the same shit as “Why are the no mods for new games?”:

1. New games are shit.

2. New games don't support modding machinima-making.

3. SFM. (Kinda. I'm pretty sure if it wouldn't exist people would just use something else: Unity, Unreal, Blender, 3DS Max. All that shit is now easier than it ever was.)

4aeb1b  No.16015122

>>16014828

That's pretty much the methodology you should do. Nothing can last forever if there isn't at least one person saving it and another person sharing it. Also, it's a good practice to make a backup of your backup just in case one source of archiving disappears or doesn't work for whatever reason. 3 backups of the same thing on different hd or storage sites would be ideal but 2 is good enough for most.

I imagine they're going to try and rebrand what Machinima is. They'll likely take the concept of Machinima (Videos made using games/game engines) and try to make something big out of it. Think discount Rooster Teeth. You're gonna see a bunch of awful 3D animated series made in Unity or Unreal that tries to pander to "nerd culture". I'm willing to bet money that Machinima is going to come out with an even shittier version of RWBY within the next two years.

>>16015288

It's because SFM is too smooth. You make the key frames and have the algorithms translate everything inbetween. In Garry's Mod, everything is either controlled by the director or is surrendered to the chaos of the physics engine. That and the various techniques GMod video makers do. Such as mixing in stop motion with their silly ragdoll flailing. It's pure art through adversity and it gives a unique flavor to it (even if most of those videos were shit)

Thank you

I wouldnt think a company would just outright delete thousands of videos, many of which had milions of views, without warning.

Videos like "Counter strike for kids" may not be high art, but they are relics from a time period when online communities used unconventional methods to create enterntaining content for free for people to enjoy. It should be preserved for future generations and should not be forgotten.

It's moments like these that terrify me. That it's possible something might exist in digital format, but for it to be lost somehow.

A drawfag who posts an image at the end of a thread, deletes his original, and nobody saves it. A video many people found amusing, but nobody saved, deleted after the fact.

It's odd. It's normal for the real and material to do this. That sunrise you once saw alone, or a moment with a dog in the park. Tiny things you never could share, lost in seconds.

But digital material? It's implied to last forever. It's something you can save or link to share. When it dies I feel a certain existential dread.

I should buy a back-up hard drive.

The distinction here is that jerking off to a loli does not make you a child molester - it does not harm a real child. That's the argument being made. Here's how you archive channels on UNIX-like OSes:

ID='...' # channel ID
youtube-dl \
--ignore-config --prefer-ffmpeg --cache-dir 'CACHE' \
--no-check-certificate --geo-bypass -R 'infinite' \
--fragment-retries 'infinite' --abort-on-unavailable-fragment \
-i --no-progress --no-warning -f 'bestvideo+bestaudio/best' \
--merge-output-format 'mkv' --write-info-json --write-thumbnail \
--all-subs --download-archive 'ARCHIVE.txt' --playlist-reverse \
-o '%(playlist_index)s.%(upload_date)s.%(id)s/%(id)s.%(ext)s' \
-- "https://www.youtube.com/channel/${ID}" 2>&1 | tee 'youtube-dl.0.log'

This will download the video and audio of best quality, the thumbnail, all subtitles and the JSON file with metadata.

After that you can check youtube-dl.0.log for errors using…

grep '^ERROR: ' youtube-dl.0.log
…and if they're network-related, just repeat the command changing the 0 in youtube-dl.0.log to 1 and so on, just in case. It'll check the ARCHIVE.txt file and skip the already downloaded videos.

The person who replied to you before me is conceited, don’t listen to his flawed argument. In truth, loli is a BODYTYPE rather than an age, and even if it was an age, that isn’t the primary thing turning you on and making you fap to it. The primary thing is the body which is utterly unattainable by actual children in real life, providing a sufficient disconnect from reality.

Contrast that with a fetish like NTR or toddlercon. We’ll approach the former first. The main stay of such doujins is the netorare, the cucking, and that is what turns people on, provided - of course - that NTR is what the viewer came for. If the viewer came for the art or the sex rather than the NTR specifically, like someone just browsing sadpanda for something - anything - to fap to, then it can be said with certainty that ‘’they’’ aren’t cucks.

You see, someone’s sexual orientation - homosexual, lolicon, shotacon, cuck, etc - can all be determined by what they get turned on by, and in some cases that can be anything and it isn’t so clear.

Now with toddlercon, it’s pretty safe to say the viewer is a pedophile. The body type specifically reflects real life toddlers and the age of the subject is readily apparent. It’s very important to distiguish lolicons from toddlercons for this reason.

What he's saying is that the loli vs pedo argument is pointless because it should not fucking matter. What goes on in a person's head is their own business, and fantasizing about something doesn't mean they'll do it. By trying to argue that loli is a bodytype only you're fighting the wrong fight and will only hurt loli porn in the long term:

First it was

Now it's

>thoughtcrime does real, but loli isn't children so I'm not a thoughtcriminal

Putin is the closest I can think of to a modern Caesar (what a lot of folks mistake is that a Caesar is the ultimate politician, and although Hitler was great, he was too ideologically motivated and too righteous; a true Caesar is a sycophant, and if you will notice, Russia is experiencing its "second religiousness" (renewed religious awakening) right now, with Putin using it for Middle Eastern interests; that is not to say Putin isn't religious—all good commanders are to some degree, but he is also a politician.).

It's so strange when things are lost. There's this hobby of mine - pen spinning - which has had an online community since around 2000 and perhaps even prior, that has been putting out things like collaboration videos (a group of people submitting their neat pen combos into a compilation vid) ever since, and because of how active the community used to be, there are stacks and stacks of obscure videos that nobody but the people who around then would remember. Even old legends from 2008 are long forgotten; when I look at other communities, their stories of old gods and the mythology of skilled players, trolls, meetups, and competitions, all of it is well remembered, and yet in pen spinning, hardly any of the new-blood will recognize the name Cloud Traveller or Angmaramyon A who's lost community set the preconditions for what pen spinning would look like for generations to come.

I might start saving these videos.

3fa412  No.16055620

>>16055593

Quotes are just a way for shitty people to back up their stupid ideas with punchy sayings. "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" implies that remembering the past is how it's prevented from occurring in the first place, but all it really does is leave you helpless to stop what you see coming when the masses head for the same destinations they always go for.

What's more, nobody really remembers the past except for the parts that they want to pick and choose. The your-grandfather-stole-from-my-grandfathers, the my-ancestors-lived-here-for-decades-after-stealing-it-from-someone-else's-ancestors, and the I'm-righteous-and-industrious-and-you're-a-bloodthirsty-warmonger-and-slavers. We entered an era where the people who remembered the past were basically at the helm, warning everyone of what happened in the past, and they got complacent because life got cushy and easy for them, and they started trying to act like the grand architects of societal progress. Now the only people who trust them are the people too stupid to form thoughts on their own, and history is going to repeat itself in spite of anyone knowing it.

tl;dr version: It's a shitty quote and an unavoidable constant in the universe.

Can you apply some semblance of critical thinking and not just react as though we're talking about digital + DRM which is why it sucks for video games, and doesn't suck if you eliminate the DRM? >sequential access is an afterthought

>>16062280

This is why people need to push P2P/distributed standard. Our short digital history shows that authors/publishers cannot be expected to last forever, but the strength of individual autists is large. They will go through great lengths to preserve something better than you ever intended. Faster access, globally distributed, highly redundant enterprise grade storage. All for anime and old video games.

It's actually an affront to the original Internet design that this isn't the case, but technologies seeking to fix this do excite me. Bitcoin is massive for breaking control of money, since credit cards crack down on some types of transactions, notably to me, freezing donation to Wikileaks.

>being this fucking retarded

Nigger how dumb can you be?

This isn't just about DRM you fucking dumbcunt, it's about the fact that there's no ownership anymore, no archival of knowledge, and it's control of information.

They're treating information and literature as nothing more than just products to be sold and discarded when they please. Once they're no longer interested selling access to the books, they can pull it from their storefront and also remove access to it ==even if you purchased it==.

Just look at the P.T. shitshow that happened with konami and the ps4. That exact same thing could happen elsewhere.

With physical media, they can only stop selling copies. But with digital, not only can they remove it from the storefront and people's personal libraries, they can also silently revise them to remove any wrongthink aswell.

All those issues you are mentioning stem from DRM (i.e. the thing that tries to make digital files uncopyable or unusable, or as put cutely, trying to make water not wet) or copyright (the thing that makes it unlawful). Digital is 1:1 copyable and verifiable easily, the filenames on 8chan are SHA256 checksums and a trivial example of the latter, digital signatures are the more robust way.

No they don't. It stems from the fact that it's a digital product rather than a physical object.

Oh. Forgive me I'm an idiot. Of fucking course you own a game tied to Steam just because you have a physical copy, and you don't own a digital copy of a game just because you have it mirrored by dozens of people and the DRM system is utterly broken and ironically helps prove a game to be legitimate. I probably shouldn't expect anything better from you though if you're posting images like that.

Cunt, I never said anything about steam. I'm not even talking about vidya. I'm talking about literature and academic documents.

Yes people can mirror them, I never said you couldn't but the problem is with it is, they're completely dependent on people archiving it to ensure it's existence.

Sure there'd always be some autist archiving shit but, it doesn't detract from the fact it could be wiped from existance.

Because in the end it doesn't matter if it's being archived, it'd still be harder and harder to access.

>Cunt, I never said anything about steam.

>they're completely dependent on people archiving it to ensure it's existence.

That's how it is for everything. I will grant that digital requires more effort to, like if humanity is fucked, we won't have the same legacy as say the Greeks or Romans. But that really does not concern me when in the here and now it's an infinitely faster way to propagate information. Just think. Some random on the other side of the world can draw something and suddenly millions of people can see it or download it.

Also with physical, if there's only one copy of something, it's only a matter of time before it's gone forever, whether by accident or by malice (Library of Alexandria being a particularly awful example). Decentralizing it is a hedge against this risk.

>it'd still be harder and harder to access.

That's once again, a different issue. c.f. people hoarding rare video game cartridges preventing them from being dumped, while good fucking luck erasing all copies of the ones that are.

Planetarian.

The anime is 5 episodes long and, though good, is generally inferior to the visual novel it was based on, which is also fairly short at around 3-5 hours long.

Some nitpicks with that command: You should put that all in a config file specifically for backing up channels and then just excplicitly call it to keep you sane.

You can also merge the metadata into the video file directly but I am not sure how big the info overlap is, furthermore I would prepend the output argument with the channel name to keep things more organized.

The automatic metadata merging youtube-dl does is shit, better just keep the *.info.json files around. One thing this script misses is the playlists. Some channels may have unlisted videos that are listed in some playlist. You can grab all the playlists by passing https://www.youtube.com/channel/${CHANNEL_ID}/playlists as another argument, so it be something like:

youtube-dl \
-v --no-progress --no-warnings \
-i --ignore-config --prefer-ffmpeg \
-R 'infinite' --fragment-retries 'infinite' \
--abort-on-unavailable-fragment --geo-bypass --no-check-certificate \
--match-filter "channel_id = '${CHANNEL_ID}'" --playlist-reverse \
-w -o '%(upload_date)s.%(id)s/%(id)s.%(ext)s' \
--download-archive 'ARCHIVE' --merge-output-format 'mkv' \
--all-subs --no-continue --write-info-json --write-thumbnail \
-- "https://www.youtube.com/channel/${CHANNEL_ID}" "https://www.youtube.com/channel/${CHANNEL_ID}/playlists" \
2>&1 | tee 'youtube-dl.log'
The only problem this setup has is that sometimes channels have public playlists with their favorite or liked videos which are typically huge (5 000 videos, or something). The –match-filter "channel_id = '${CHANNEL_ID}'" filter will not download videos from such playlists (unless they belong to the specified channel) but it'll still waste a lot of time downloading each video's page and extracting information from it. Luckily, this is a one-time thing: later you can just get the IDs of all rejected videos and add them to the ARCHIVE file so youtube-dl would ignore them next time.
