Taken on it's own, it's not exactly bad (it's no Lunar: Dragon Song, but you have to try to be that awful), but still loses points due leaving the plot stuck on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. Taken as a sequel to the GBA Golden Suns, it seemingly tries to go out of its way to be a poor follow up, what with the bulk of the plot being a fetch quest to fix what Garet's fuck up son Tyrone stole and proceeded to break, frequent points of no return that lock you out of djinn and summons, not bringing enough of the old crew back (you only ever see Isaac and Garet in person, Felix is pretty much never mentioned, and the rest are all effectively off screen), wolfbitch stealing the spotlight while Himi outright acknowledges her only purpose for living it to be a plot device to power up said wolfbitch, not giving us an entire world to explore, ending on the aforementioned cliffhanger, and STILL no fight with Alex (who might as well be wearing a paper plate with a cock drawn on it for all the good his "disguise" does). And I don't think Isaac and crew saved the world thirty years prior just for it to give rise to nation of furries (actual furfag shit, not just werewolves like TLA) waging war with the humans. Gameplay-wise, I guess it's the same: turn based combat, four people in active party, psynergy puzzles (which the addition of "Insight" removes pretty much any challenge from). Best things in relation to the game, if you ask me, are the rough, sketchy conceptual art for the characters, Djinn getting their own unique designs instead of merely by element, and that the little crybaby Eoleo grew up to be a cool looking pirate. I don't even remember much of the OST either, aside from that creepy theme that plays in eclipsed areas.
I honestly have to question if Camelot even wanted to make another Golden Sun, or even RPG, beyond The Lost Age. I mean, when previous entries are explicitly noted (in a good way) by fans for stuff like always (prior to the final boss) being able to go back and explore, and get stuff you forgot, and then just not bother to retain that. And especially since it already had eight characters, rather than 4 that could easily make room for four more in a GSIV. I mean, what are they going to do if they do make another? Make it a 16 character party and try to figure out enough time for characterization (not like Golden Sun was especially deep on that before, but still)? Depower the current eight back to level 2 and 3?
