Just going to repost the concept art from the last thread. I'm not an artist (programming background for me) but when I've thought about working on my own fighting game I do think about animations and getting the character from one state to the next. So how motion flows and the readability of the movement is a big deal to me. It's a pet peeve when a move is an overhead but the animators make the attack look like a low blow or an attack that comes from "beneath" the opponent. It's rare but I've seen it a couple of times, please never do this.

R.I.P Snow White. Forever the worst character in Million Arthur unless they give her some major tweaks. Which is bizarre because Ethica in Nitroplus Blasterz is a fantastic grappler.

Nah she is complete bullshit. She gets way too much reward for such minimal effort in her inputs, no complexity or timing. If you are able to side-step her then you are playing some shitty 2Bs, the ones I fight never let you step a fucking inch as they throw out all the ridiculous horizontals she has, not to mention you can't step shit she does out of her dash, you have to block or as you said GI. Except blocking is a risk because she'll just grab you out of dash, and the 4A+G will corkscrew you on your head giving her a free follow-up combo or CE, and I don't think any other character gets that kind of follow up off a throw like that. She flips around in the air and it's basically impossible for some characters to do anything to her up there. She also has an attack from dash sending her backwards that will completely evade anything that isn't a projectile as she shoots one of her own at you, the goddamn thing even PULLS YOU IN so she is guaranteed a follow up, instead of letting distance from the opponent matter. The only thing even remotely comparable to that move is Talim using Wind Charmer backwards and then hitting B to do that blast of air, but that shit isn't a projectile, it needs to hit you directly, and it's super punishable on block.
Fuck 2B, she doesn't belong in Soulcalibur.

There doesn't seem to the X-rays in the traditional sense, but rather something called Fatal Blows, which works the same way, but instead of it being meter related, it can be done when your health gets low. There's absolutely no reason Sonya should be modeled after Rousey, who has 0 experience voice acting, outside of casual audiences knowing who that is and buying it. Very inaccurate. They have some similar design philosophies but differ drastically in implementation, especially compared to AH. See pics related.
Older GG is everything in pic 2 but cranked up to 11. By the end of the XX series, every character had four supers, three or four meter-specific special moves, dozens of frame traps, 10 unique special moves, and eight or nine different ways to combo you for upwards of 50% off of a clean hit. One of the revisions actually buffed character health universally just to prevent people from dying so much.
It was also very technical and unforgiving; some motions were unnecessarily complex, but more importantly, each motion required you to input exactly the right order of positions. I-No's Horizontal Chemical Love was a 632146 motion, and if you missed any position you wouldn't get the move. Then you realize she can TK it and use it in combos, and you begin to realize how difficult it is to do the advanced stuff in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R, for instance.
The defensive mechanics were the same way: Slashback was a two-button parry with no slowdown that had (if memory serves) a 2F input window. Dead Angles were relative to your sprite, so if you chose to do it to attempt to escape the Eddie blender, then you could actually be hit from behind by Eddie's puppet and Dead Angle the wrong way.
FRCs are notorious for being tight (many were 1F when the mechanic was introduced in Accent Core) and unforgiving, but I think the really bad part is when you try to do it to a move that can be FRC'd on hit/recovery, since you'll need to predict the hitstop and adjust your inputs accordingly.
Then you need to consider all the character-specific mechanics, individual mechanics like attack level, gatling trees, and so on. It was an extremely complex experience, and playing it well took a LOT of work.
BlazBlue, famously made at a time when ArcSys had lost the rights to make games with most of the GG cast, tried to "update" the look of the characters by making them 00s anime stereotypes instead of unique 90s characters. It also universalized many mechanics:

Then after backlash, he had his team waste previous time and millions of dollars adding it back; adding it to the Dynasty Warriors engine. Then after more backlash, he unfucks up the faces of several girls, and starts promising to sell iconic characters that should be there Day 1 for DLC and unambiguously says, "These iconic revealing outfits you like so much are still there!" All of this also serves to distract from the fact that the game is all the more casual than previous entries.
No amount of claiming things were lost in translation can hide the nature of what he's doing. He wanted to pander to his natural enemy, western gaming journalists, and use Esports-appeal and female fans as shields. Then it turns out the female fans wanted sexy women than sexy men, sexy men being the reason why Diego was there. The game's casual state still remains untouched.
The worst possible part about this is that he seriously claims and pledges to fix everything if there's enough backlash - ignoring the backlash accrued since Day 1. There's not enough time and money to undo the self-censorship and casualization. DOA was handed to this guy on a silver platter. All he had to do was make a conventional sequel and weather the obligatory screeches from western gaming journalism. Fans would have bought it out of obligation and next-gen upgrades. Bare minimum would have made the company money.

These are from the Dynasty videos. Looking at default costumes, which I'm assuming they are being the first in character customization, a lot of them suck. The other sets of costumes look way better than default. Looking at the small roster of females for now and small amount of customization shown, there is barely any big amounts of skin shown in the other costumes. The best is Sonya's old costume which looks more like a fitness outfit to wear to the gym now. Makes her look like a grandma caring about her health, which I guess is in canon since she is a mom having given birth to Cassie. And one boob window for Skarlet which is still less revealing than Baraka's clothes, not including the shirtless version.
Also, a minor gripe that doesn't have anything to do with gameplay. The variation names suck. I thought they were the players names at first but they are actually linked to the the 3 different variations. Generic I can take but a lot of these ones sound like something you'd see in neopets like Sub-Zero's Thundersnow don't fit the tone.

The phone game was fun till you realized that no matter how well you played, if the other person payed more or simply had unlocked better characters than yours, they were winning. I've only ever played II on the Gamecube, so that's the only one I can personally recommend. Other people have said III is like II, but I never touched it so I can't say how similar they actually are. I've played V for a bit casually and it's kind of fun due to how stupid all the characters look and how dumb the guest characters are, but I don't think it holds up competitively, and I don't think it has too much single player content either.

To be honest, retouch a model in a game is pretty common during development. See Chun-li and Karin faces in SFV, Kyo's black hair in KOFXIV reveal trailer or the constant update in graphics even after release, the infamous Chun-Li face in MvCI, Mitsurugi and Sophitia during SCVI announcement and release just to name recent games.

Really? I thougth Ezio was by far the best guest character by how fitting he is in design and without any magical bullshit. Fuck, he's a better SoulCalibur than Algol in a thong growing swords from his body. But you're about "competitively". Bamco was retarded enough to keep nerfing Tira while not addressing Viola who not only was a top tier but had an infinite as well. I got DOA5LR and it's a really good package with tons of extras, I particularly like how it has every OST in the series and you can set themes for characters and stuff, that's pretty cool. I main Nyotengu and I'll admit I dropped some shekels for costumes for her. Besides her I play Leon (my DOA2 main), Christie and I try to play Momiji and Helena but they're kinda tricky. Momiji's deceptive, you think she's gonna be like the ninjas with ridiculously long strings but it's almost the opposite.
But I dunno, if I do get a upcoming FG, it might only be SamSho.

Well, she looks a lot like Naotora now having a "softer" face. But I don't think she'll have a different price. I bought 5 Ultimate and every character cost the same until the jump to current gen where only Mai and Naotora costs more but they are guests from completely different franchises and Mai is even from a different company.
I main Tina, Sarah, Mai and Honoka in 5LR while mess around with Bass and Brad Wong. I only bought Marie as DLC in Ultimate and ended up buying the 5LR disc in a sale for like U$15.00 later. So I'll probably only dip with Tina and Honoka until the game is on sale the same way and still, I am in no hurry for the release.
