Monstrous with taxi skin best. Also always good to see someone bring up anything to do with RRV. I think it's one of the more underrated games in the series the fact it came after the phenomenal game that was Type 4 didn't help I suppose.

I love that V makes you play as every car in order to get upgrades for everything. That said, I don't understand how Grip type cars work. I seem to do just fine with them in 7 though, where they don't feel different from the other types at all, somehow.
I'd also kill for a proper RR8. Lucky and Wild and the Renegade course need to be in HD already.

Wasn't aware that there was a PSP compilation. My Ridge Racer collection is woefully lacking.
As to your question as to why it doesn't have a bigger following? I have a few ideas.
A few anons know of the QUALITY that is Ridge Racer. Pic related. It could simply be that it's one of those games that you would have to particularly go out of your way to fuck up and could you possibly imagine what would happen if Ridge Racer got Souls'd?
There might be some unconscious or subconscious desire to prevent that from happening, as most normalfags who buy the game just buy it to race cars and don't give a fuck about its quality. Hell, I almost always see used copies going for single digit dollars every time I see anything Ridge Racer related.

Yeah it's just called "Ridge Racer" and Ridge Racer 2 (or Ridge Racers and Ridge Racers 2 in Japan) and they're essentially a Best Of album for the entire franchise incorporating tracks, music and some special cars from the whole series' history. It also has it's own original soundtrack which was amazing.

I wouldn't call RR4 the epitome of gameplay. The AI cars are bricks on rails and you actually have to finish in different combinations of 2nd/3rd place in the first two Heats to unlock all the cars The game is severely scripted.
