Latest COD is going absolutely insane with the new "Micro" Transactions. I know it's

so nobody is expecting anything from it, but it's setting a disturbing trend that other games could copy in the coming years, so I think we need to talk about it, it makes horse armor look downright generous
Let's review how much money the game wants you to spend:
>60$ for a normal edition
>60$ Season pass, includes 4 zombie maps and 12 multi maps, they specifically gave you less maps this year and just padded out the rest with ports of older maps, and 4 blackout skins
We're already at 120$ if you want the "Full package", let's keep going
>No single/campaign
>Cancerous multiplayer that is almost nothing like "Call of duty", copies everything under the sun that's new and popular. Wants to be the next overwatch/csgo/R6 Siege badly
>Blackout, the new "Battle Royale" mode, pretty much pubg with the "highly marketable" character skins and slightly less bugs
>Zombies is okay, but very un-inspired, 60$ season pass advertised 4 "brand new" maps, but turns out the 2nd of 4 maps is going to be yet another remake
>All 3 game modes are clearly rushed, not enough content, basic features cut out and re-introduced in updates weeks to months later, hailed as "brand new" additions we've never seen before
>Game is bleeding fanbase, PC especially. BR mode on PC is pretty much dead on arrival, to the point that the game mode is going to be free to play later in the year
So now that people know what we're dealing with, let's take a look at the microtransaction system. Keep in mind, let's pretend we've already spend 120$ on this game already:
>Battle pass like system, with 100-200 tiers
>each tier takes about 1 hour of real play time, no way to speed it up, no matter how well you play
>"Generous" free skip for pretty much just touching the game in any game mode daily
>Cannot earn tiers in zombies, the only mode people actually care about

Alright, so that's about 100-200 hours to put into the grind, counting the "daily skips", that's about 60 if you just play the game everyday(seems to be the standard amount of time for each "Season), so we're left with 40-140 hours of grinding within a span of 2 months. Let's see what WONDERFUL things you can earn from the grind:
>"Stickers"
>Emblems
>Playercards
>Tags/Sprays
>Emotes
>Outfits
>Warpaints
>Weapon Skins, New Weapons, Reticules and Blackout skins of characters from older games(Very high tier, obviously)
No, aside from the last one of the above, nobody gives a flying about any of this, right? People want the brand new weapon or a familiar character they want to play as in the BR mode. Obviously, that's all the way at the end, which forces a grind nobody wants to sit thru, a "generous" help from tier skips, which cost real money, which is what anyone who isn't eating, breathing and shitting this game 24/7 is going to do(everyone). Each tier skip is 1 real world dollar, so that is about 100-200 dollars worth of microtransaction right there, just to unlock one or two things that you wanted. Also, don't forget, you are not guaranteed everything within the "season pass" some tiers just have generic loot crates that can give you shit regardless, and the "duplicate system" doesn't care about your rarity, it will just give you a free crate every 3 repeats, even if all 3 are "epic" or whatever
So far, we spend 120$ on the "Full experience", and let's say another 200$ on the season pass, because I want to play as hudson. Cool motherucker and his shades, who can hate him?
Wait, what's that, they didn't even bother hiring his old voice actor? ummm….
Well, that's a grand total of 320$ for the "Full experience", as well as hudson and a whole bunch of shit you will never use. That does not count any future "Seasons", this is just the launch
So now, fast forward a little bit, the micro transaction shop opens up, known as the "Black Market". Those are guaranteed garbage loots from supply drops, if you want something specific, and limited time "Bundles". Let's take a look at them:

From the store, here is roughly how much each kind of item costs in real life money:
>Reticule/Sticker/Emblem/Tag/Playercard: 1$ each
>Character Outfit: 5-6$ Each
>"Blackout" character aka classic skins 7$
>"Bundles" of several stickers, emblems, Playercards and one weapon outfit, 7+$(You have to unlock each item thru the "Tiers", meaning that not only did you pay more money like a sap you are, you still have to grind about 10 extra hours or pay up another 10$ for tier skips to get the items you bought right off the bat)
>"Limited edition packs", which have about items, usually a weapon skin or 2, and the rest filled with the typical fluff playercards, stickers ect.- 15 TO 20 MOTHERFUCKING DOLLARS
And as you can see in the pic, it's not even anything special, you can tell they cut this shit out of the game at the last minute to repackage it as some sort of "Good deal", an exclusive, exotic item to be grabbed for a limited time. How many games did you play where you gun had a red dot sight? Count them all up. Now imagine if each and every one of those game told you to pay up a dollar to use it, how many dollars would you spend?
And the worst part is that people are buying into this. I hear reports that people run around with those "Cheap" 20 dollar weapon skins and happily defend this POS game all the same. Sure, the studio is getting flag for this, but it's fucking activision, like they give a shit about their reputation, same dipshits who bought into this will buy the next cod game next year
So, let's finish off with how much money we spend here: 320 dollars at launch, so we're missing a few dollars to make it an even 400. I think at this point, there were enough "Limited Time" Bundles that they themselves cost 80 or more dollars, so let's say we got a few weapon skins(none of this effects the gameplay btw, all of this is pure cosmetics) and a knife skin, as well as more useless stickers, for the same amount that we could afford a much better game, maybe even several, putting us at 400$, and counting, since the "Season" for the game has just begun, it will go on like this until october/november, and several years after

For 8 dollars, plus another 10 real life hours of my short life, or another 10 dollars, putting me at 18 dollars total, I can get a few gay ass stickers, and the outfit that I want
For 200 fucking dollars, I get a flashing, animated skin for my gun
Now, for 200 dollars that we spend, from the last post, I generously got the pony gun, as well as the flashing gun, and hudson, all for the low price of 200 dollars, the only things I actually wanted, but I want a gay looking paint for a gas mask for one of my characters, too, because there is still some money in my wallet that activision did not steal for me, that will be a grand total of 218$, and that's all within the first week of the game, NOT COUNTING 120$ I SPEND ON THE GAME

Can't say I'm surprised. The devs are scared of the publishers, and the publishers in turn are scared of their own shareholders.
What do shareholders want? Profit. And, more importantly, steady, reliable profit. They're not interested in having the publishers shit out an AAA title that actually is outstanding or might even sell well. They want them to do annual releases, coupled with microtransactions and other shit so that there is a nice, steady, and predictable flow of cash which allows them to look at long-term growth rates and the like.
Same reason by video games as a streamed service gets the publishers so wet, or why everyone and his mom copied subscription based World of Warcraft back when it was still big.

I play this game, and never met a single person who willing gave their money for the microtransactions, since most realize that the game will likely be dead within the next couple of years, so no point in investing. What I hate is how the "Specialists" in-game are basically heroes with abilites. Which if you are the few people on /v/ who like traditional CoD gameplay, really breaks the flow of the game. Example
