Duelists of the Roses is actually fucking insane.

It took the slow as fuck meta from back in the day and built around it. Literally every boss monster from back then is viable in this game since all the cards work differently.

Pumpking, a really sucky monster is beast in this game because it can gradually strengthen your team since everything's on a board and has limited movement. Fusing monsters is as simple as overlaying them and seeing what sticks, no extra cards needed. Even the best monsters from the meta back in the day can be beaten or strengthened by actual strategy due to how the board works. Field spells are important because they replace tiles and have a much greater effect. You can slap together a team of monsters you actually like, even weak ones and still win duels, even competitively, because loads of support spells and traps are generics that fit any deck.

On top of that the game has ACTUALLY GOOD music. And a fucking weird as fuck storyline where the game superimposes the anime characters onto people from the War of the Roses, including the fucking Tudors, it's the craziest fucking crack fanfiction and it has no right to be good, but it's great.

Any games you would like to share? Can even be recent if you like.

Duelist of the Roses is one of only two games i rented from blockbusters that i absolutely hated. I thought i was in for a card battle game. What i got was a shitty console rts thing.

Monster Tale. Has its issues and looks like shovelware trash straight out of deviantart (and also being by western devs, if that's a personal red flag), but is a fairly solid game on the whole. OST is also shockingly good for what it is, to the point it's a shame the guy that did it, aside from Henry Hatsworth (both games share some staff), just seems to get stuck with music composition for licensed games and shovelware.

The Black Bass on NES has a nice soothing jingle for the title theme.

>OG Yu-Gi-Oh

>slow as fuck

What? OG Yu-Gi-Oh was rocket tag. Tons of board wipes and monster destruction spells you could have three of EACH in your deck. Only slightly slow things were the presence of attack prevention stuff (Swords of Revealing Light: Better hope you have anti-spell cards), piss easy to put a defensive monster able to withstand attacks from anything that didn't need two+ sacrifices (and swarming barely existed at this time) or equipment (enjoy losing both to a single monster wipe).

Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh games, Over The Nexus is pretty much a full fledged jRPG with an original plot and interesting enough original characters and tons of sidequests/collectables, just with the battle system being CHILDREN'S CARD GAMES and the setting being based off 5Ds. Had nine tracks for generic battles when few games bother with more than one. Most of the AI opponents have distinct decks with their own strategy. Shame support for most archetypes is only in post-credits boosters.

Oh shoot, I just remembered Pachi Para.

Irem had a long running series of pachinko simulators. One day a bunch of guys got drunk or something and decided to put in story mode with a guy trying to find out who killed his father. Yes, it was still a pachinko simulator. This ran for a few games then they got really drunk and decided to make a new story, but this time make it in the Steambot Chronicles engine and give it to the madman behind Disaster Report. Then it became an even screwyer story that was basicly Yu-Gi-Oh but with pachinko instead of

CHILDREN'S CARD GAMES

And it kept Disaster Report's love of dialog options that included totally random, off-topic, perverted, and completely inappropriate responses to pick from. On top of this since it was built on the Steambot Chronicles engine, the whole thing takes place in an open world sandbox where you can do odd side quests or just pick up chicks (even as a girl).

Honestly, from that premise, I wish that would be the pachinko game people would bother with translating, rather than actual pachinko shit like the recent Nishijin Pachinko 3 patch.

Having watched, since PCSX2 can't run anything in the Steambot Chronicles engine most the games, it certainly looks like fun. I know just enough Nipponese to realize half of what's going on

As for Nishijin Pachinko 3, from the looks of it someone translated it purely as resume fodder. SNES is fairly well understand for hacking translations into and there's minimal text to translate.

The PS1 one soundtrack is godlike.

Good taste. I've been wanting to replay it but it must suck on emulators because of the touch screen.

d16bb6  No.15947379

>>15946538

The touch screen mechanic is basically just a "tap object to override Chomp's attention", since he'll tend to do what he wants in that screen otherwise, and since some enemies can enter that screen as well, it's prevalent to focus him on them, rather than a frisbee or cookie or whatever.

Actually, I didn't see that part at first, so I suppose that post isn't saying anything new.

>On top of that the game has ACTUALLY GOOD music.

Forbidden Memories' music is also outstanding.

You're making me want to emulate Roses, but PS2 emulation is so incredibly fucked on AMD hardware.
