Urban Reign had some pretty neat shit. Once you get a hang of dodging it becomes incredibly easy to the point where you have difficulty understanding how you could have been so shit at the game but until then pretty much every single boss encounter is actually pretty difficult. But the moment you see the word "monster" show up in the mission select for the fifth time in a row, that is when you know.
Bonus points for any encounter with the cunts with swords that has more than three of them.

The absolute worst part about it is that you're really not in any sort of immediate danger, but the fight just takes so long without the spring ball that the stress of the darkness draining you makes it easy to keep making minor mistakes that completely kill your momentum and confidence.
It took me two tries to kill that boss, and the second time I just flew right through the fight. Once you get past the guesswork, he's really fucking easy which just makes it even more blood-boiling, in my opinion.

All of the bosses in the Wistful Wild were scary as fuck. I hated bosses in general in Pikmin because it was generally expected that you would lose a good portion of your Pikmin while killing them. It's pretty fucked up: you can see the little dead pikmin's souls leaving their bodies. Non-lethal damage can be healed, but you can never get back those little helpful friends.

This is one of the strongest reasons I utterly despise the "MUH MENTAL HEALTH" cunts from Tumblr.
Shit like BPD is a popular one, worn as a fashionable, self-diagnosed label and used as an excuse to be a piece of shit to others, while it tears both the people that actually suffer from it and those around them apart. To see those same fucking cunts that do that shit infesting my favorite pastime which got me through some of my most painful times as a child and now fills me with utter hatred and contempt for them.
I still remember the times I'd comfort my mother, hugging her after she'd broken down crying her soul out about how she's worthless and doesn't deserve to be my mother and how she's sorry for everything she's done to hurt me and how much she loves me and how lucky she is to have me as her son, while I knew she'd eventually be wrestled back by her illness, maybe even just days later.
Just typing this part in particular is making me tear up.
In games, the thing that reminds me of her, funnily enough, is MGS4.

He was clearly put on the unlockable Mentor difficulty setting dispite it being his first time playing the game, and if you don't know what your doing Ninja Gaiden 2 will kick your teeth in with out mercy. You can maybe button mash your way though the starting 2 difficulty settings, but the unlockable Mentor and Master Ninja difficulties demand strategy and mechanical mastery from you.
Those Incendiary Shuriken enemies show up far less on the starting difficulties and much much further into the game, where on Mentor and Master they show up all the fucking time. They where a major road for me at first, but they taught me ton about invincibility frames.

because the others were just platforms you could run across. this one locked an animation of you spinning on it. jumping off broke the animation. pressing any direction after jumping on it had no effect. you couldnt move left/right/up/down, except up/down made the barrel move. and jumping broke the animation and released you from the barrel.
it was just a matter of "did you try every button?" there are 5 to try. and 2/5 do what you need it to do. 2/5 do nothing, and one cancels the whole thing and resets you. breaking the animation made this obvious.

It was more a chore to break all the statues than a rough time. Even the man-sized facegrabbers from Alien stopped being a problem when you figure out that the puddles are flammable.
The blighttown knockoff before that was way worse, the design of some platforms encouraged jumping where you couldn't actually get to.

As someone who played DS2 as his first Souls game, I don't know why so many people complain about these areas. Sure the Gutter wasn't very fun, but when I died it was my fault, it's mostly a straight path to the end. The Black Gulch was easy, just a chore having to break the statues. SOTFS did improve these areas to be more appropriately hard and more interesting.
