When it’s over she sighs, shudders, relaxes; the return of the melted ice cube, if ice cubes are extremely pleased with themselves when they melt. She’d be purring if she were a cat, you bet.

ALTO:
>[a4] I know how you feel about my family. And I think your feelings are right, to a point. But this is serious. I told you when I said I needed your help.
>[b8] I will NEVER forgive you. [b7] Forgiveness isn't something you can earn. It's up to us whether we want to do it or not.
>[b4] But I have already made up my mind to keep living. [a4] I've already made up my mind that this world is still worth saving. [c7] If you are attempting to change my mind… [e3] Well, I will be very angry.
Alto has a really diverse range of emotions. Her two turning points are when the World Tuning fails and when she defeats Liquid Alto.
LIQUID:
>[a2] You've already figure it out, haven't you? I'm you. [a1] To be more specific, I'm the buried parts of you. Your subconcious. I'm your true desire, the self that you've had to suppress so that you wouldn't be overwhelmed by the contradiction.
One side of Alto's personality. Has to be extremely cold, but I also think pitiable. You have to find someone much more talented than the rest of the actors for Alto.
TEAGAN:
>[a7] No! I told you! I told you all over and over! This is what you get when you entrust an important performance to a bunch of amateurs! This is why I kept saying that it's no good to just keep picking up the first person you find on the street!
>[a8] A defective hero can only recruit a defective party, huh?
>[b4] I was a stupid kid, and yeah, I was self-righteous about it and never thought to consider how you felt. But I was still thinking of you first.
Teagan's tone doesn't really change much. Having a zest of arrogance might better communicate that she's the so-called "villain" of the story, and therefore is more authentic FP's perception.
AUBREY:
>[a6] You've been going through so much, and I was just using you. I'm so – so shabby and shameful. If it's to protect myself, I'll run away from anything, and manipulate anyone. I care about myself more than I care about the world.
>[b5] [///] UWAHHHHH DON'T SAY IT
>I remember that I was trying not to cry when I'd cut myself on the broken glass from the windows, because I was almost ten and when you were ten you were supposed to be too grown-up to cry. But when I finally got out, and got a look at the town… The fire, and the smoke… It looked like hell on earth.
>[a4] …Do you really think that an idealistic picture of the future like that is enough, though? What's going to happen when your dreams don't work out? What about when your boyfriend finds out the truth about you and is too disgusted to even touch you again? [c2] Wouldn't it just be easier to go to sleep, and have things stay as they are forever?
Aubrey is very distant because of her emotional fragility. Her deal is that she has bad survivor's guilt and wants to die, but she's torn because of her love for Altair. So when she finds out that she can best assist Altair by "dying," she is enthusiastic about this.(edited)

She outright stated at several points that Alto is a hateful and vindictive and even malicious person from what I recall. The problem is, while the message she was trying to convey was "having negative feelings doesn't make you a bad person" (which is a fair message, I think), she all too often wrote Alto to act out on said negative feelings in ways that were spiteful and purposely cruel, and at that point the point about having the feelings not making one evil is moot.
And it doesn't help that the message is further muddied by the very obvious double standard that's applied to people like Teagan and Aubrey, whose negative feelings also sometimes cause them to act out in hurtful ways…but who both never reach the point of becoming genocidal maniacs.

I think the bigger problem is the author wants the personality to have it's cake and eat it too. Like you said, the other party members validating it for no reason is ridiculous. There's a third way, but it's way out of most writer's depths. Basically, turn it the other way and turn your party into a bunch of JRPG villains. Granted, UT's party wouldn't work for it, as two of them would rather die and Teagan wouldn't settle for that shit, as pretty much shown in the relevant ending(s). It's also better done as a prequel. Again, Xenoblade 2 handled this sort of thing way better with Jin.

From what I recall, FP has also been stated as loving to write characters people hate, which makes me think she might just be a contrarian of sorts. Ostensibly "Oh, my main character is so unlikable! Isn't that D E E P and M E A N I N G F U L!?"
On a subject related to Alto being an unlikable character:
I was watching the previous Thasil stream for research purposes when I came back to the Tower Scene. This had to have been the 5th or so time I've watched it and I finally understood Alto's rebuttal. From Alto's view, Teagan isn't apologizing because she is honestly sorry, she is apologizing because not being forgiven hurts her and therefore the gesture itself it selfish.
Now, obviously a normal human being think that if one is actually pained by their mistakes, then their apology is sincere, but FP wanted to write a story where the "abuser" is never forgiven by the "victim". We also see this when Alto tells Aubrey to never stop feeling guilty for what happened in the first bonus dungeon. Now, perhaps its just me, but the way Alto speaks in those two scenes seems off to me. It seems more that Alto as a character isn't really saying those things so much as she's being used as a puppet by FP; that FP's personal ethical philosophy bent the narrative in those instances to make some kind of grand stand against "abusers" or some other kind of nonsense.

That actually makes sense, in a very cynical sense. Human beings are by nature selfish so it doesn't seem unreasonable for an edgelord like Alto to come to that conclusion.

Those scenes upset me so much the first time I played the game some time before I discovered /v/ had discovered it that I couldn't really think them through in that way, but now that you've mentioned this, it makes me feel a bit better about them, as even back when I was simply following the game's development and playing the demos I picked up that there were multiple other points in the story where the characters suddenly stop talking like themselves because FP has possessed them to make a statement. The most obvious example in the full game being the onsen scene where everyone except Alto and Meirin yell at the poor desk clerk about gender shit because she asked them if they wanted to do separate bathing or not.
What made it so very obvious that it was FP speaking instead of the characters themselves was that Aubrey, who's been asleep for two thousand years, somehow mysteriously knows what is "outmoded" in the modern era.

I think there were two demos: one of them ended after the chicken fight and meeting Saki, the second one ended after you meet Meirin but before the "red light district" incident.

Only now do I realize how much of the lore was written down in tumblr posts and not in these pictures. I think we even lost the evidence that Teagan is actually Celtic.
So much lore has been lost all because tumblr didn't want to host porn.
Side note I'd just like to point out that Alto considers Teagan only an acquaintance according to these while Teagan considers the entirety of the party as her close friends. I don't know why, but this is the thing that makes me most mad. Not the fact that Alto has no vice, no fears, goes from NG to CN, or that her skin color is "white passing." No, all of that is nothing compared to the fact that Teagan is considered only an acquaintance to Alto. Because I guess being friends for the majority of both of their lifetimes means fuck all in the end!

It's never really explained, but it is powered by the Cantabile's Fairy bloodline. It is also mentioned to not be elementally attuned or to easily create elementally neutral magic, which is stated as being an extremely difficult thing to accomplish using other forms of magic.
Bowing in the real world means playing a string instrument with a bow. If I had to take a shot in the dark as to what it is in game, it's probably playing the leylines that resonate with the various spheres of magic as if they were a string instrument.

I'm beginning to think Feral considers anyone who makes her feel a negative emotion is manipulative.
So, when Teagan makes Alto feel bad for essentially speeding up the apocalypse, that's emotional manipulation because NO ONE GETS TO MAKE FERAL ALTO FEEL BAD! At least, that's my best guess. I still have no idea what she means when she calls Teagan manipulative. If Feral ever responded to one of us we could probably ask what exactly Teagan did that was manipulative, but I'm sure Feral knows not to answer any question about UT at this point.

Also, apparently Arietta's class is archetier, so I suppose she made the first bow-blade personally.

Other fun facts I've found out by looking through the game files:
Alto is attuned to the Dark and Fire elements and is weak to Holy and Water damage (which are the elements Aubrey is attuned to).
Arietta, on the other hand, is attuned to Fire, Dark, AND Holy. As such she is only weak to water damage.
Piano is the name of Arietta's weapon and has the description of "Where your greatest treasure lies, there will your heart lie also." It has the same image as "Contralto" and both have cryptic descriptions that mention the heart, so it can be assumed that Piano is a weapon that Arietta pulled from her own Uncommon Time.
Seeing as Arietta's daughter isn't born until long after that point, it's likely Piano is named after Arietta's favorite weapon rather than the other way around.

BACKUP ANON HERE
Before the thread gets drowned out by the other garbage on this board, I wanted to let you guys know about the current archiving efforts:
I have the full recordings of all days of streaming with the complete, un-shoah'd sound on my storage server and also the pre-show, where Refinery (the other clusterfuck FP produced) was "played" (Unfortunately only the second half of it, because no faggot made a mention of it in the thread), which I might also upload, for completions sake.
I have also finished re-encoding the streams to get the size down from 20GB per stream, to something more reasonable (under ~3GB for 8 hours of streaming).
I will put everything in the Mega folder with my other recordings, which you can find here:
https://mega.nz/#F!bvIwhIAb!0lSLdPwo-Ar-tTr9ZtIBwQ
Currently in the folder are:
- The original airing of the Duet ending from 2017
- This years full summer stream from August (This better not be our last living memory of Thassil)
- The first 2 days of this years winter stream
Of note is, that you can directly watch the VODs through the Mega site, and don't have to download them first (though their player takes a while to load a vid).
Unfortunately, I got kike'd out of my promised, free 50GB storage, and have only 15GB to my disposal, which is already full.
Meaning that, I will probably create a second Mega account, to get myself another 15GB and upload the rest there.
Let's hope the Mega kikes won't find out and shoah everything (in the worst case, the originals are still secured on my 48TB storage rig).
Anyways, if the thread is still around, I will post the link to the second folder in here.
I will also put a .txt file with the link in the first folder, so you can still find it, as long as you don't lose the first link.

There was one other critical part that I feel like is important. In the bar scene, when Teagan is drunk, she's thinking about how her life would be if she never met Alto directly to Alto's face, implying that she viewed Alto as a burden rather than as a friend or even a person. To be honest, the relationship between the two is so disharmonious in the first place, that I don't really think it's fair to take a side in it. Teagan is justified in thinking of Alto as a burden and objectifying her because Alto never made an attempt to prove that she was human, but Alto is justified in masking her humanity to protect herself from further abuse. To call Teagan as abusive as the Cantabile's, though, is entirely wrong.
It's also harder to like Alto, though, knowing that she's a lesbian whore who completely fucked up the World Tuning because she failed to explain how it was far more than just playing the music correctly or see how it was going to go wrong despite all her years of training with it until after they did it, whereas you have the virginal Teagan who consistently advised her how to go about it and was ignored, which asphyxiated any synergy in the group.

>the bar scene
For the longest time I had assumed it was the bar scene that caused the World Tuning to fail, that it was Teagan considering Alto a burden that actually pushed Alto into wanting the world to end; the problem with that, though is the fact that Alto recruited the other ensemble members long in advance of this scene and, as we find out in the Music Box, she only did that because they would help her destroy the world.
As for why it's hard to empathize with Alto, it's less to do with her being a lesbian who failed the World Tuning and has far more to do with the fact that she accuses Teagan of things Teagan didn't do. If Alto's tirade had been about how Teagan treats Alto like a burden or a helpless child, Alto would have been far more sympathetic. Maybe. I'm not convinced Teagan actually ignores Alto or doesn't let Alto do what she wants. Instead, Alto calls Teagan manipulative, which is something that ALTO is guilty of, NOT Teagan.
Another huge problem is the fact that none of FP's special snowflake characters ever get called out on their bullshit. Alto is never called out for manipulating others. Arietta is never called out for covering up the Metronome Disaster or starting the Cantabile Cycle. I understand that all of the characters experience Arietta's story via a dream sequence, but the idea that all of the characters would suddenly give up their grievances because they saw things from Arietta's point of view feels a bit off. This problem is only exacerbated when you realize this same forgiveness is not extended to Aubrey at the end of her Uncommon Time. Instead of forgiveness and understanding, Alto gives a diatribe about how Aubrey should ALWAYS feel bad and should NEVER forgive herself for the misdeeds of her past.
Really, the ethos of the entire game appears to be "People should live in pain FOREVER for their grievances against me! I, on the other hand, should be forgiven for everything I do and be praised for putting up with the struggle of an imperfect existence."

Alto has an endearing line about caring about things and not wanting to throw them away because they're not perfect, but her actions are the exact opposite of that. She does do kind things at some points in the story, but because she HAS to never forgive anyone her motivation never makes sense except when she's killing everyone in ending 4.
I think I remember a post on feral's tumblr where she mentioned that the original versions of Alto, Teagan & Saki were going to be war orphans. Alto's edgy and unforgiving persona might have made a decent character in a setting like that, but it really fucks everything up in a story like this where everyone else has some kind of positive character arc.

Holy shit. That explains a lot about all three of them.
Feral intended Teagan to be a mean and cranky person and makes her murder Alto out of nowhere in one ending despite nothing in the rest of her character ever pointing to that being a thing that can happen. The way Feral talks about Saki indicates he was originally supposed to be a lot more important to the story than he actually is in the final product. And both he and Alto have dark and bitter personalities under their more friendly exteriors, and I remember Feral talking about how Saki's veil and Alto's mask are supposed to symbolize how they hide their true selves.

Actually, guns more likely do exist in their universe.
Although it doesn't make a lot of sense, the island the game takes place on refused to industrialize, essentially making it a giant Amish community. They export instruments and presumably import whatever it is they import to sustain themselves, but they do not advance beyond a medieval society.
Early in the game Meirin mentions coal trains and hints that the use of oil as an energy source is being theorized, so this sets the actual level of technology outside of Harmonia at the late industrial era. Of course, it could just be that FP has no understanding of history seeing as HRT is available 2000 years before the beginning of the game.
Side note of something I discovered when looking through recordings of previous streams:
Apparently despite Meirin's ancestor having taken part in the first World Tuning, Meirin has no idea what the World Tuning is at the beginning of the game. The fact that no one seems to care about the Song that Saves the World annoys me to know end. How is it that only ONE family in the whole world seems to have recorded the fact that there is a song that stops an ever-encroaching apocalypse?

Actually, I think it would be cool to make a little 2d gondola platformer game. Gondola would run around in a comfy little level, and the goal is to get to the level's exit. He can run, jump, and maybe even walljump. Each level could have a little easter egg/minigame. The easter egg might be something small. For example, gondola might sit down on a bench and listen to a bird sing a song, or it could be something more complex, like a fishing minigame. Each level exists on its own, so the order of levels is different every time you play. There would even be a level editor, and it would be simple to add custom artwork/animation for gondola and the level. This way, anons could easily make their own levels to add to the game. Then everyone's levels would be gathered up into one release, and the only name that would appear in the credits is "anon"
I think this is pretty ambitious for a 2d platformer, even though it wouldn't really have that many features. I don't expect that I might be able to make something like this for a long time. I wouldn't mind if someone blatantly stole made something like this before I could. But only if they credited me as "anon" :^)
0afd7a No.15934148

Oh I forgot to add something. To give you an idea of what the game might actually be like, consider the webm I posted. Gondola would start on the left hand side of the screen, and when he walks off the right hand side of the screen, the level exits and a new level loads in. The easter egg could be something very small; if gondola stands still for a few moments, he will look upwards to gaze at the stars. Then the music would start to play.

Watching the development process of just about anything sparks my curiosity very easily, so at the start it was simply "Someone's making a thing? Let's see where this goes."
It was genuinely not apparent at the time how bizarrely terrible the game was going to be. It was obviously going to be kind of bad–the heavy-handed environmental themes and the gay shit were apparent from the start–but the character designs, while not great, obviously had effort put into them, and occasionally she would post out-of-context spoilers like the Saki picture above or pics related, which, when out of context, are mildly interesting and spark wondering about what the final game is going to be like. There was enough passion apparent in the project that at the very least it seemed like it might at least be fun to watch.
The truly bizarre shit like Meirin's whoring ways or the dynamic between Alto and Teagan, as well as Alto's malicious genocidal maniac tendencies, were never apparent until the final game, so playing the final product and seeing it went well past "kind of bad but made by someone passionate about their project" into "what the FUCK am I playing" was. Something.

As for Teagan's theme, it'll be one of the songs listed on the "sad" page on the CaMeLIA site (and several other themes from the game are also there.)

You know what, I've changed my mind. There's something worthwhile to be found in UT, even in its original form, otherwise we wouldn't have become fixated on it in the first place.
To begin with, people always respond positively to earnest effort and sincerity, even if the result is objectively terrible. FP may be an edgy, lesbian Jew, but she did her best.
As for the actual plot, having a main character who is bitter about life fail the world-saving quest because in her heart she thinks it would be better if it all ended anyway is a brilliant play on the archetypal JRPG story and creates the potential for a great deal of psychological depth. At this point most video game writers are already in over their heads, but the utterly retarded response the rest of the cast (barring best girl) have towards Alto and the quality of the writing in general suggest to me that FP is actually just an edgelord who didn't recognise the strength of her own plot-twist. Teagan remains as the lone lucid voice crying out to both the player and author of the potential trapped within.
So what I'm saying is; Uncommon Time is the Evangelion of RPGMaker.

In my opinion that would only be true if the framing of the story was completely neutral or even negative towards the characters. The narrative heavily pushes the idea that Alto is right and should not be questioned. On the other hand, Shinji, and the rest of the EVA cast for that matter, is portrayed as flawed and broken.
If anything UT is the anti-Evangelion. Evangelion was about showing how leaving one's flawed nature unchecked can be extremely destructive. UT is about how one should embrace their flawed nature because being flawed means one is absolved of sin. I feel there's a reason why the "villain" of UT has a name that means beautiful and perfect.

I think that is more or less what happened. FP described a song that couldn't exist: A song that cannot be defined by any genre, is supernaturally good, and consists of a string quartet and a singer.
I don't think there is any song that could be made, let alone found on the internet for free, that could fit this description. FP more or less wrote herself into a corner with no way out. The terrible part is, towards the end of the game we find out that the song is more or less irrelevant, so there's no reason she should have hyped up the song so much if it is irrelevant in the end.
Reminds me that if I want to make my own UT game I should probably learn how to make my own music. Does anyone have any recommendation on where to start for that?

You finally get it, I think. We need emotional content, and UT has that in spades. FP clearly cared about some aspects, and those shine, even if not in the way we would like them to. I'm sure many of us have made questionably good games, but actually finished them, and maybe even posted them here. While there's something to be said with accepting outside help (something that the story of Uncommon Time seems to go against in some ways), there's also something to be said for the relatively pure artist's vision. Sure, it's more like looking into the eyes of madness, but through it we try to understand FP, and see if it's really what she believes. Or maybe we're still missing the point, who knows. I know Feral has said she likes unlikable protagonists, maybe the one she really doesn't like is herself.

Sorry, what I meant is that we can work together, but each person has to do only one thing. Rather than have a single team broken into teams, we have a single team of people each doing their own thing.
>Go for it, anon. If you post the ideas for your game I'll post the ideas I have for my game.
I'm not going to share my story ideas, though I will say that it's going to expand on the lore already set up with very few modifications.
For gameplay, though, I wanted something that was easy to work on with others online, so I knew it had to be 2D so I wouldn't have to concern myself with the logistics of modelling, texturing, rigging, optimization, etc. For combat, I was initially thinking not diverting much from the turn-based combat of the original game, but I thought that wasn't exciting or interesting enough.
My next idea was to take this format and make it real-time so decisions would have to be made quickly. Basically, the character would be moving around the enemy in a circle, like a record player. This would also be done with sprites on a 3D plane, kind of like id Tech 1 or Build. The player would be able to switch to each character on the fly and program a move set for them. This was a lot more about coordination. I still like this idea because it's unique, but then I was thinking about what if I let the computer control coordination rather than movement. My final idea and the one I like the most would look like embed related, as in it being entirely third person and movement would be controlled by the player in ultra-fast combat to make it more like a cartoon or anime. The biggest hurdle for this idea is that now the allies need to have AI and make their own decisions.

Very interesting ideas, anon.
I'm the anon that is working on the prequel game(s), so I've already shared some of the story bits.
Right now my idea is to start off with a fairly standard JRPG, but increase complexity at the end of each chapter. So it starts off as a fairly basic JRPG that then becomes a tactical RPG by the end. Each chapter is going to have a different cast of characters (presuming I don't just make each chapter into its own separate game). The problem, though, is that chronologically the tactical RPG parts would happen in the middle and towards the beginning and end there would be no justification for having tactical combat. As such I'm thinking of setting the story out of order to facilitate the ramping up of the tactical complexity of each chapter.
In addition to this, I want each main character to have their own special gimmick. For example I intend to have a Fairy as a party member that can cast spells she doesn't have the MP for by sacrificing her HP. Likewise she can also steal MP via her basic attack. Another character would be something akin to an alchemist who can mix a set number of items together to produce a particular result, so one item might cause the result to cause healing while another might triple its current effect, but cause it to only happen over six turns (making a HoT/DoT that deals a total of triple damage, but only delivers this at half strength each turn).
The game is going to start when the Cantabile family is more or less strongly in power, so money is not a limiting factor, causing encumbrance (or some similar inventory limiter) to be the only worry. While at the end of the game, the player has to contend with encumbrance, item cost, unit recruitment cost, unit salary, and anything else I might think up later (though that may be a bit overkill).
I also might just drop all of the chapters and focus just on the "Cantabile Civil War," as one anon dubbed it.

I'm actually doing a similar thing. Each party member has something to offer that can increase the tactical complexity of the game. It is entirely optional, but is far more efficient. I'll post an abridged version of what I have in my design document.
<Because Alto has limited knowledge outside musical theory, her only core ability is only bowing. Bowing isn't really explained, but the way I've designed it is that she is unable to directly manipulate magical energy unless she uses a special bow to "play" it. She has difficulty attaching feelings to words, something that is attributed to autism, but this will be attributed to a combination of social unawareness, disconnection, and synesthesia. Her synesthesia can help her in combat, but might be so overwhelming at times that it blinds her. As she is the player vessel, her abilities are personal and easier to display on screen. The abilities of the others are more informative.
<Teagan has have color blindness, which is a traditionally masculine trait, that helps her find camouflaged objects while other times she might miss things all together. She also has a bit of Earth magic, which can be useful for mapping out cave systems, therefore making her the cartographer of the group. I've redacted the rest of it, but she might gain an ability or two along the way.
<Saki has an extremely unique magical talent of precognition. Similar to Doctor Manhattan in that he understands that nothing is random but simply misunderstood. Only in times of extreme magical energy can Saki have visions of the future, but the rest of the time he depends on his playing cards. His playing cards merely gauge how clear things are. This isn't something I have yet to explain adequately in words, but I've given you the numbers and you just need to add them up yourself. Saki also has a encyclopedic knowledge about medicine and nutrition, both gameplay mechanics.
<Meirin is frighteningly apt at playing by ear. She can easily perform important musical pieces without thinking about how to play them. Alto will probably share this talent in a far more limited sense. Her understanding of air magic helps with predicting weather patterns, though her klutzyness might make the predictions a little less than reliable. Yes, weather is going to be a thing that can affect gameplay. She is also an excellent cook.
<Aubrey doesn't have anything special about her other than being the native of Harmonia and can explain things about the ancient society. She's pretty good with stars and will happily enlighten you about them, but that won't come in handy much unless she becomes a pirate.

I really wanted to figure out a way to do the ally vs enemy AI without having to bother creating it, so I figured that I'd just have it play chess instead since there's a lot of open source shit for that. It's a bit ridiculous saying it aloud.
The basic idea is that there is a super game, which is how the game actually is, and two internal games, one for the enemy AI and the other for the ally AI. The internal games are modified versions of the super game using various stats. For example, if the AI's have a low perception stat, then they will see fewer pieces on the board. If they have a high intelligence stat, they will be able to calculate X many moves ahead of the super game. This is supposed to simulate strategy.
Those are the broad strokes. You program, so you're more knowledgeable than me about this. What do you think?

>What do you think?
It's very easy to say "The AI plays the game," but it is far more difficult to implement.
Do you know how to represent the steps of your metagame in a logical/mathematical notation? Generally, whenever you have a kind of game AI like this, you assign a point value to each of the possible steps the AI could take (where the more points represents the more beneficial the action is). So you'll need to determine how to calculate each action. Is it the [amount of damage they could potentially deal] - [the amount of damage they could potentially take]? Is it [amount of damage they could deal] / [enemies who have the potential to harm them]? Does the AI even go for the highest rated action each time, or is that just the action they are most likely to take?
Also, determining "X moves ahead" is kind of a wonky thing that I'm not sure how to calculate against if RNG is involved at all. Not to mention the entire calculation goes out the window the second the player moves because there is no way to determine how the player is going to react. As such, even though the AI will calculate X moves ahead, because it needs to recalculate its future turns each time the player moves, it will essentially only have 1 turn of calculations.

>Does the AI even go for the highest rated action each time, or is that just the action they are most likely to take?
This might be difficult to explain because it's something that I've only ever really thought about, but I'll try my best. The first thing that happens is that the super game is copied and the opponents pieces are either moved around, added, or subtracted. This board is then fed to the machine, which in turn makes the best move based on the lesser board in the super game. Does that make a little more sense?
af9f2d No.15937610
>>15937597
>Does that make a little more sense?
I would need to know how the super game and lesser game operate to really know what you're talking about, but if you think you have a way of creating the logical steps of the game, then I'm sure you'll be able to program it once you gain the knowledge to do so.

It's better to give an enemy a moveset that flows with synergy regardless of RNG. Most AI systems in RPGs can't adequately predict player behavior without a grid. If yyou want to make an AI interesting for a boss then have it "test" the player actors with a gimmick that players need to figure out how to get around. Once the player passes and puts the boss in danger it will change up its strategy with different probability on attacks and scripts. Some attacks stop being used while deadlier attacks are more common. You can give the boss a desperation attack if it knows it will die in the next turn.
The key to making a good boss battle in RPGs is knowing when to start making scripted turn sequences for the boss yet make actions feel varied and random enough. There's a variety of common events you can call for battle like turn timers that move scripts reference in certain slots as an example. For multi-turn combos like paralyzing an enemy with a common attack then the boss checks every other turn for paralyzed opponents before unleashing an HP drain move via script they'll have to be programmed per encounter.
It's not often that you see a mind-reader done well in a game. The only way I can think of pulling it off would be to tell the system to "cheat" by reading your input commands before inputting their own when the turn starts. The enemy will counter your moves 100% of the time with action cancelling states making this an impossible fight to win. That is unless you pull a Metal Gear Solid and plug your input device into the Player 2 socket. Or just get an outside force to bail you out of the battle for story reasons. Then come back to the encounter with the key item needed to counter telepathy.

>Actually, guns more likely do exist in their universe.
Because my autism cannot be easily sated, I need to walk back on this statement.
Even though guns SHOULD exist as something beside steam trains and modern t-shirts, they most likely do not. For whatever reason, only certain technology advances and each field seems to advance independently, which is why medicine and textile technologies appear to be at modern day levels, but architecture is stuck in the medieval era and transportation at the industrial era.
Either way, the weapons and armor are distinctly medieval as we can see from Teagan's mother. She is a town guard who wears bits of plate and wields a sword.
Really, it can best be concluded that FP really didn't care about the technology of her world and just said whatever she wanted at the time. She most likely talked about coal-powered trains because that was the only example of coal power she knew. Later in the story we get electric instruments, showing that electricity is a thing, which only raises more questions.
I can only conclude that FP really didn't care about her own lore and just cared solely for the drama of her characters. The entire setting is just whatever she made up at the time to fit her narrative; it has no logical consistency and can probably be ignored. The only lore FP cared about was character lore and as such should be the only thing one should care for if one intends to make a game based on UT.

Liberals don't like including guns in their fantasy RPGs because it triggers them. Guns are the ultimate equalizer. Guns make swords obsolete and libtards love their magic swords in fantasy tumblrland.
The only way I can justify melee being viable again is a post apocalyptic setting where the means to production of conventional firearms are in very limited supply or non existent. Or if magic is infused in the firearms themselves and magic brings a thematic gameplay balance to spells, guns, and melee as both lore and a game mechanic. It's really hard to justify logically having guns and firearms exist without one side dominating the other.
I'd rather just have a fantasy RPG with only guns at this point.

We don't actually know anything about where Alto/Teagan are from as the kingdom itself has no name and the city the Cantabiles preside over is simply referred to as "Alto's home town." (FP has stated several times that she forgot to actually give it a name.)

>he raised a tranny, a whore and a child who is completely disgusted by even the idea of sex
There are 4 Almace siblings in total. Tegan, the man whore, the trans-something, and the youngest son.
From what I remember, the youngest son is just a normal boy, though to the same merit FP never fleshed him out beyond him wanting to be a tailor like his father. So, it's less that he's straight, cis, hetro male and more FP forgot to give him a special identity, but to the same merit, if FP DID give him some kind of deviancy, FP would probably never shut up about it.
Either way, we're the fans of UT now, so we get to say what is canon, as far as I'm concerned.

There was another sibling, wasn't there? I think the siblings were named Tristan, Morgan, Innis, and Lachlan, and Morgan was the tranny…which means there's a sibling that FP forgot to do anything with aside from give a name.

>Tristan, Morgan, Innis, and Lachlan
It's very possible. I don't remember much about the post, but I do remember the besides Tristan and the two parents, the two youngest siblings wanted to emulate their parents. The youngest son was going to be a tailor while the youngest daughter was training to be a guard. Which one is which I don't remember, though.
To the same merit, though, with FP's tumblr gone, all of the lore is erased. Perhaps we should just fill in the gaps with our own lore assuming anyone actually finishes their project.

Some of the lore still exists, in the form of side stories on AO3 or works she's posted to Pixiv or Pillowfort (for example, Aubrey, Chantal, and all their adopted siblings chose their own surnames because Altair's mother did not want the Bonheur name to be given to a bunch of orphans her son just randomly adopted out of nowhere, Meirin has an unusual hairstyle postcanon because she was inspired by Teagan putting a flower in her hair, and Meirin and Alto cosplay as Frisk and Chara when playing Undertale for some reason.)
But yeah, a lot of the lore is gone, sadly.

If and when I get around to it I'll post whatever fan art I feel like. I never played the games. I want to do a blind stream someday. However my PC is a potato and I need to wire an Ethernet cable in my room first. Teagen is nicest friend. Alto sounds like a sad existence of a protagonist that can be so much more but is subject to be a shitty author's self-insert pity fetish. I'm genuinely interested to see how bad this thing really is and all the missed potential it could have had.

>Altair's mother did not want the Bonheur name to be given to a bunch of orphans her son just randomly adopted
On the subject of Altair's mother: She isn't really fleshed out, nor is ANYONE'S parents for that matter. Something else Altair's mother does is forbid him from marrying Arietta because the Cantabile house isn't dignified enough, however Altair is also infertile so no other noble house even wants him. As such Altair never marries anyone and the Bonheur family loses out on any resources marrying Altair off would have offered. Altair's mother honestly feels like a character that was written to be a villain for the sake of having a tragic backstory. Same thing with Alto's parents, actually. They aren't really characters as much as they are caricatures of bad parents.
Really, the only parents that aren't terrible are Altair and Arietta (at least by the game's standards). Makes me wonder if FP has some parental issues.

> the only parents that aren't terrible are Altair and Arietta (at least by the game's standards)
The problem is this game's standards are pretty low, and while I think Altair's heart was in the right place, he was not up to the task of taking on a dozen or so severely traumatized children. The orphanage director recognized this but Arietta bullied her into allowing it anyway.
The end result was Altair didn't have enough time and energy to devote to all of the children, especially since he was also trying to save the world at the same time. Chantal wound up having to be Aubrey's parent more or less (a task that she was not up to as she was a child herself), and in the end Aubrey ended up suiciding and Arietta blamed them for acting "terrible" (or rather, like the severely depressed and traumatized child that they were) instead of recognizing that maybe she should have done more to help or perhaps shouldn't have encouraged her partner to take on more children than he could handle to begin with.
Also, she named her daughter Piano.

>she named her daughter Piano.
SHE NAMED HER DAUGHTER PIANO
I will never get over that fact.
But on a more serious note, yes, the game seems to have no understanding of responsibility and child rearing. It's odd because the game's argument appears to be that Altair has the money to take care of all the Star Children, but doesn't go beyond that point. Altair might love his adopted children, but there is no way he has the ability to give them all the attention they would need. If anything, Altair hasn't actually made all of them his children so much as he just put them into his own guilt-ridden orphanage for magical children.
The thing is, if Altair had been offering to teach the children, or turned his house into an orphanage for magically inclined children, that would be one thing, but he legally adopts each of the children. Not to mention that the only reason he does this is because of the guilt he feels for having his hand in the Metronome Disaster.
I feel I should also point out that Arietta ALSO feels guilty for her hand in the Metronome Disaster, but other than having nightmares about it, she doesn't act with any guilt nor does she do anything to achieve redemption. As misguided as Altair's adoptions truly are, he is at least doing something to redeem himself from all the deaths he caused. Arietta, though, does nothing. You can't even say Arietta performing the World Tuning counts as redemption because her attempt to do the World Tuning is what caused the Metronome Disaster in the first place.

It's something in the game I think about a lot in this game, to be honest.
Chantal and Teagan both were in a similar situation of having to be the parent to a kid not much younger than them, because said kid's parents didn't do their job adequately. It's something I found pretty relatable so both Chantal and Teagan stood out to me because of it.
And the way the game had one of the people who should have been parenting Aubrey dump on Aubrey for Chantal's understandable failure to be a parent, something that Chantal felt guilty about, and the way it dumped on Teagan for failing to be a parent, kind of frustrated me. Chantal and Teagan shouldn't have been in that situation in the first place. Arietta should have been doing her job, Altair was doing his job but he shouldn't have taken on so much at once and he should have gotten more help, and Alto's parents were of course Alto's parents.

>Arietta should have been doing her job
The problem with that sentiment is that Arietta never agreed to raise the children in the first place.
This goes back to the warped morality of the game, but Arietta never agrees to help directly. She agrees to give Altair funding and servants, but never actually mentions that she will directly help. Hell, half the time she's battling for his attention against his adopted children.
Arietta is, at the end of the day, extremely selfish, but the game just frame it as humorous. FP herself stated that she wrote Arietta to be a flawless hero because FP didn't like the trope of the flawed idol, not understanding the purpose of the trope: Your hero IS flawed, because your hero is human, and to be human is to live with flaws.
Arietta, to be the stalwart idol FP wants her to be, SHOULD be flawed, even obviously so, but should spend a great deal of effort overcoming her flaws instead of stamping her feet and demanding the world bend suit her inadequacies. In the game, Arietta complains that the people around her do not understand her because her way of thinking is so different from everyone else, but instead of learning how to explain her thoughts in a way that everyone else CAN understand, she refuses to explain herself and demands others learn to understand her.

>Arietta never agreed to raise the children in the first place.
I guess that's a good point, although in a way it makes it worse given how willing she was to gun for Altair adopting too many children, if she wouldn't then proceed to actually help him.
It kind of makes me cynically wonder if she also made Altair do most of the raising of Piano, given she seems to have only had Piano in order to foist her duties off on her rather than out of any real want to have children.
>Arietta is, at the end of the day, extremely selfish, but the game just frame it as humorous.
That seems to be a thing throughout the game. A lot of the bullying Teagan experiences is framed as hilarious, as was the amount of teasing Aubrey gets about sexuality despite Aubrey being obviously uncomfortable talking about it.

This is probably a long shot, but since the thread is going to disappear soon enough, I feel I might as well ask:
Is it ever stated what happens to Altair's mansion between the flashbacks and the beginning of the game? It's not around when the game starts so I assume something happened to it. I also don't recall it ever being mentioned that something happened to it, but I could be wrong.
If it's unstated I think I might use it as a plot point for the CCW prequel game.
