Not a good feeling to be bored of this shit 3 levels in. Difficulty seems adequately balanced but gee whiz the game sure tries its hardest to look ugly despite the games it's memeing on really being nice to look at. I guess of all the retro throwback shooters that have been shat out these past few years it might be the best one but it's kinda just mediocre while the rest are irredeemable garbage. Have you played it yet? Am I supposed to be cheesing my way through the levels use jumping on props like it's unpatched HL2? Are the enemies supposed to be this boring? The attack telegraphing seems off too.

I'm uploading it to mega right now, should be up within the next 40 minutes. Mods feel free to edit it in when I've posted it in the thread

Fairly significantly. Some new tankier enemies get introduced which facilitate the more frequent switching between shotguns for disposing fodder and the Hunting Rifle for disposing the tankier guys in one shot. The levels start getting a lot more abstract and horror-oriented, and by extent a lot more creative. It gets kind of spooky too. The climbing and superhot power-ups also get introduced in this episode.

So far it's just a little. The first stage was a nice change of pace but after that it just goes back to more of the same. My problem is each stage feels incomplete so far. Every location a series of rooms and disconnected ideas that do not build on any game play concepts or unfold enticingly like areas in Doom or Quake or Duke3D would, where a locked door would often have what is hidden behind it teased on the map or with an enticing preview through a window of some sort. The game also seems to like to shove dark areas where you rely on the flashlight far too much. It's just not a fun way to play a game having only 15% of your screen show you any information. I get the limitations of 3D games not quite allowing easily done over-head maps but dusk far too infrequently overlaps rooms to not have this with how often it shoves you into pitch black rooms.

Quakes visuals had a lot more cohesion and effort put into it than Dusks. It looks a lot better too. Very impressive because Quake is a very inconsistent game and Dusk had all the more material to refer to in order to build its aesthetic. Especially when you look at more recent creations in Quake and Doom.

Quake was pretty visually consistent with its industrial/gothic theme and the map packs only add to that, in many ways they improve upon and complete what the original devs did. DUSK has some neat aesthetics but they kind of feel all over the place. Is it lovecraft redneck rampage? generic military bases? weird fleshy hellscapes?

Sort of like how Duke 3D's movie theater first level is an imitation but has all these little elements that may get reused later but plenty that are unique for it, such as the large movie screen, darkening theater, the projector, the snack bar, bathroom, it all has a nice feel that harkens to elements that evoke the feeling of being in a theater while not being designed like one.

You're comparing graphics of fucking quake mods to an unmodded game and pretending it's valid, which it is not. If you want to compare them, compare the original Quake with its original graphics, and not something that was made by a fucking modder, because dusk's visuals aren't modded either. Episode 1 is largely boring and is carried by the novelty of playing it for the first time, barebones level design and few monsters which are pushovers at best.

Episode 2 is where things start getting decent, still somewhat slow and easy and the level design leaves things to be desired.

The real quality spike comes in Episode 3, it's almost a completely different game because it's so good compared to the other 2 in terms of level design, atmosphere and challenging fights.

I hope the first two episodes get a revamp at some point because they're lacking in comparison to the third, which is honestly great.
