There will probably be firmware updates as more bugs get discovered and sorted out but from what I can tell compatibility is up there with the best of the everdrives.

Since they're not as easy to obtain (unfortunately) I'd also recommend getting a gameshark and flashing it with UniROM and disc loading as a stop-gap. This is a trivial job that blows the library wide open for back ups.

You about covered it but the Sonic Z-Treme thing is what is really interesting. It's mostly made from existing tools that are in active development that anyone can use. The Z-Treme project pushed further development and made it more like a very fast 3D engine for Saturn and it genuinely hits 60FPS with surprising frequency on real hardware, although even a stable 30FPS which it runs at without issue most of the time is just as impressive.

I'm looking forward to more games being made with those tools. Maybe someone will finally re-port Doom to it and get that 60fps Doom going again.

Lobotomy were legendary. Powerslave, Duke3D and Quake were all top class. Quake on Saturn even looks better than Quake on 64, that's saying something.

The PS1 BC in the PS2 is hybrid, main PS1 CPU is done by the IOP which is basically the same hardware (except clocked lower.

The CD drive switches in PS1 mode (basically just limits itself to PS1 speeds but there's a few details regarding caches too that aren't there otherwise) unless you have FDS on

SPU is done on SPU2

Now the MDEC, GTE and GPU is done via emulation, but I don't think I've ever gotten a proper answer on whether it's done on the EE as purely software emulation or on the GS and EE,

POPStarter is all done in software on the EE/GS which is why it's trash, the PS2 might be powerful but not enough to accurately do PS1 all in software

The PSP version of POPS has nearly nothing in common besides being developed by SONY, as a matter of fact the PS3 version is less compatible than the PSP version in some cases apparently (I'm guessing that has to do with MIPS being really good at emulating other MIPS based hardware as can be seen with Daedalus64), and again the PS1 classics emu is slightly different since it allows for FDS which isn't the case for any of the other ones.

Framemeister + OSSC, just framemeister if you can live without 480p native output (honestly the framemeister is good enough that it's not that big of a deal)

>Unlikely. Did it even have a port like that?

You mean the DEV9 port?

Early slim still have traces on the mobo for that.

But honestly if you wanna make something like that for PS2 you just go full ODE and just hijack the data connection from the drive, anything going through DEV9 is gonna have the same issues as current softmods.

Actually there are NES, GameBoy, and Atari emulators on the PS1 iirc, but they're not great and there's no way the PS1 could emulate anything more advanced than that. It MIGHT be able to handle Master System, Turbografx, or even Genesis emulation but it would be a Hell of an undertaking and not worth it imo.

With a 33MHz MIPS CPU and 2MB RAM, it's about on par with a 50MHz 80486DX PC. That was good enough to emulate any 8-bit system well with a decent emulator, and emulate 16-bit systems playably with a highly optimized one.

Speaking from experience, electronics are seen as high majicks, and it's the passing of corrupted information (and pronunciation) that fucks with people's ability to say it correctly. I'd never heard anyone say '"sol-dering'" until I was in my twenties. For instance, before I knew anything about Japanese history, a bunch of typos in an article about the Nobunaga's Ambition series has to this day fucked up my mental pronunciation of the names in the era. When you're taught something wrong, it is hard as fuck to un-learn it. This is why it's a goddamned miracle when someone on the relatively far left sees the light, and at least becomes mildly right-leaning.

Last time I heard about them, they were claiming 90% compatibility without actually being anywhere close to that, with even big titles functioning poorly

Also, emulating PS1 is probably a better and cheaper option and even with the whole "muh hardware" thing, hacking a PSP or PS3 and using them for PS1 titles would likely still be better than paying 100+ for this and waiting for it to maybe someday reaching Everdrive levels of compatibility

Also, Dreamcast needs higher priority and love, since emulation for it seems really troubled and fucked with some of the more niche titles and fuck giving cash to those egomaniacs that want 200 dollars for the GDemu and USB-GDROM

Noneof the current upscaler deal well with mixed 480i / 240p, something the PS1 does a lot, having a special HDMI mod for it wouldn't be a bad thing, of course making an upscaler that isn't shit at dealing with interlaced content /doesn't have several seconds of delay for mode switching / doesn't cost a fucking fortune would be better since I can thinkof other consoles where that would be fairly useful.

>>15946340

I mean, why would that happen? I´m not saying it won´t, but why the quality of floppied declined to begin with?

Too hard to manufacture? I don´t think CDs necessarily have the manufacturing issues that floppies had.

c52a69  No.15950067

>>15949943

I'm actually not sure why floppies declined in quality, but fact is that they did

I still have functional system 7.5.1 floppies for my Mac LCII (and they came with the thing) while the ones I made for RAID drivers a couple years back on my XP gaming PC are dead with one use and that's something I've seen several people complain about

Items without the potential for large sales, or with a small profit margin, tend to be relegated to shitty factories in China for production, hence the quality drop. Thankfully, you can also buy a floppy drive emulator and not have to dick around with actual disks anymore, provided you don't have an IBM PS/2 or something else that uses proprietary drives and connectors.

I wanted to solder an IDE cable to a position of the Dreamcast motherboard so that it could load Dreamcast games from the HDD. Still, i got parkinson when I had to do it and the soldering iron was above 30W which after reading could destroy the motherboard for not being around 25 so I called it quit.

Maybe I should get GDEmu, since IDE HDDs aren't particularly cheap compared to modern disk drives

highly condensed design with lowest power processors and high quality components. Sony never really cheaped out on components in the PS1 systems. Good heat dispersal. I just don't like how the power brick looks but some 6' extension cables fixes that.

I'm partial to the scph-5500 to 7500 models because they retain the parallel port as well as have optimal drive caddy placement and also have the upgraded GPU that isn't found in earlier models.
