So as we know, silent hill was a direct response to resident evil, which borrowed heavily from alone in the dark. Is there anything we can point to and say that alone in the dark wouldn't have existed if it wasn't heavily inspired by it, in the same way that RE and SH we're?

Ok then what inspired sweet home?

Isn't Resident Evil (the first one) more inspired by Sweet Home than by Alone in the Dark?

370aa0  No.15902695

>>15902688

It borrowed a lot of gameplay aspects from alone in the dark. If alone in the dark borrowed from sweet home then obviously a lot of it will carry over into into resident evil and subsequent generations of inspiration/borrowing

Sweet Home was a capcom game, which would suggest influence, but Alone in the Dark is probably more mechanically similar. Sweet Home has more JRPG style systems.

8cdd9f  No.15902703

Sweet Home didn't inspire Alone in the Dark you fucking futa loving homos, because it never saw a fucking state-side release. The developers never even knew it existed. Alone in the Dark was inspired by a combination of HP Lovecraft and adventure games.

d8c119  No.15902707

Seemingly, the original story is based on the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, although later games in the series drew inspiration from other sources including voodoo, the Wild West, and the works of H. R. Giger.

Sweet Home is a video game adaptation of a movie

>what inspired the movie Sweet Home?

Robert Wise's The Haunting

>what inspired The Haunting?

The Haunting of Hill House

>what inspired The Haunting of Hill House?

The author of the book wanted to write a ghost story after reading a study done by psychics in which they studied a house for paranormal activities.

We don't know if the movie or the game inspired each other. They were co developed and use different stories.

>ITT children

Saying Sweet Home inspired Infograms to make Alone in the dark is retarded. The world was a lot more isolated back then and a Japanese only NES game isn't likely to inspire a Western dev. It's far more likely horror movies being big in the 80's new 3D technology appearing and a love of lovecraft inspired Alone in the dark.

>who wrote the study?

About a group of nineteenth century "psychic researchers" so probably related to Allan Kardec or Helena Blavatsky, around 1880-1890 I'd assume.

>>15902712

It doesn't fucking matter who wrote the study, or even what the study is, not everything can be traced back to its most trace elements. They'll say a name, you'll say "who tought fuckface" and then then "and where did fuckface get their degree" etc. Get fucked.

> Fujiwara, the games director, toured the film's set to gather inspiration for the game, and the film's director gave Fujiwara permission to take some liberties with the game's script

The release date for the movie and the game were 11 months apart

The director being a fan of horror movies. That, and Edgar Allan Poe, probably.

>In 1989, Frédérick Raynal, a staff programmer at Infogrames, was assigned to port the early 3D game Alpha Waves. Working on the game inspired him to begin programming a tool for the creation and animation of 3D characters, with help from Franck De Girolami. In 1991, Infogrames CEO Bruno Bonnell proposed a game in which the player would use matches to gain snapshot views of an otherwise completely dark environment. An aficionado of horror films such as Dawn of the Dead, Raynal saw in this proposal the opportunity to create a horror-based game, and was given permission to lead the project.

so what you're saying is that HP lovecraft is the great great great great great great grandfather of the survival horror genre

This. Early 3D games were trippy, AitD's breakthrough of combining static 2D backgrounds with 3D was what made somewhat normal looking 3D possible.

well aware, sweet home is more important. PC dont-forget-about-me-ism is so pathetic. There's a reason console games are more important.
