Splatterhouse was already edgy though( unless you want to count wanpaku graffitti), so its not really a "edgy" reboot but just a normal reboot. The mask in the reboot was fantastic though.

Bomberman 64 had a fairly dark undertone iirc. I only remember bits, but it involved an alien terrorist group trying to blow up several planets and Bomberman getting keikaku'd by the main villain. Darkness is only an issue in presentation. Kirby is pretty horrible if you think about it, but because its light-hearted and silly, its fun.

The closest they ever came to doing a reboot was when they invented all the Earth-One versions of characters, like J'onn J'onzz, Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, and Katar Hol. That was much more of a reboot than The Crisis on Infinite Earths ever was. And then a few years later it was retconned to be an alternate universe so it was no longer a full reboot. And even to begin with, characters like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman were never quite cleanly rebooted, and their "reboots" were retconned in years later.
