Layton 4 started the path, but it was the Layton movie that went crazy with muh superancient kangz civilization. I thought Layton 5 was still decent but Layton 6 sucked, more for structure reasons than anything else.

Layton 7 actually deescalates things but ends up being the worst one in the series since there practically isn’t a plot.

I hate this. It only showcases writers' inability to write coherent and interesting stories without cornering themselves into unsolvable situations. No way out? Supernatural shit! You can fix everything with time travelling and ghosts.

Even Ghost Trick after establishing more or less consistent rules of how ghost powers operate asspulls time travelling at the last moment.

Supernatural elements are good only when the follow rules established beforehead.

You can't just use ghost mediums as legit witness in court, if you couldn't before.

You can't just have ghost time travel at the last time if you couldn't before.

You can't just have supernatural shit appear for the last 10 minutes of the story.

I dunno about layton, but none of the games and VNs I mentioned did it properly.
